Missing the Games

One day after the Olympic Ceremonies I came down with a real kicker of a bad cold. Laid up, sleeping, a lot, I am missing the 2010 Winter Games as I was planning on heading into the City. There is less than one week to go and I am afraid that I am just not going to make it, at all. Have you ever wanted to attend a function, planned for it and then suddenly came down ill that you were on your back and feeling rough instead? I did manage to catch some of the games on T.V. and was fun but wishing that I could see more but I am still needing to sleep, more.

The one and only time I ever actually wanted to vote in a presidential election, I was horribly ill with a vicious chest cold. I had no energy, was feverish and really didn't feel like dragging myself to the polls. Somehow, I mustered up the energy because I had never been so impressed by a presidential candidate before and didn't want to allow that cold to stop me. But, I was probably as sick (I mean "ill"... see my reference to that in your other post about sayings) as you feel right now. It took everything I had to get there and back but I was glad I did. You just rest and take care of yourself! I know it's disappointing to miss something so exciting when it's so near but your health comes first! Besides, your "babies" need you!

Hee he Thanks mentalward, for the Hero status. Yes my babies :D do need me and are doing so awesome, I am excited every morning to get up and take a look to see how they are coming along. Yes, i agree with not infecting others. That is why plus if I were to go, travel, eat food other than what I am while I am not feeling well, I would probably get drained and wind up even sicker. I just want this to be over. It has been a real drag as one can well imagine. This isn't just a case of a wee sniffle either. I have been on my back and feeling very rough. Chest, head, nose.. I am glad you got to the election. If I were to go to the games, i would want to see everything, plus, i would have my pup too, in tow which is most fun but an additional 6 pound load none the less. Since she is small she'd be in her front carrier so to avoid possibly getting stepped on. I am almost all better.

I'm so glad to hear you're almost better! Guess who's sick now? Yeah, I caught it, today. I was sniffling a bit yesterday, then, last night, my nose wouldn't stop running. Today, it hit me bad, cough, chills, fever, all of it. This sucks! Just when I get my SUV back, too! My husband's truck has been in and out of the shop because his transmission is having serious problems and they can't seem to figure out what's wrong, even after putting in an entirely new transmission. Stupid people! They're supposed to know what they're doing! Anyway, he just got a loaner car yesterday so I got my wheels back and now I'll be laying low for awhile until I feel better. But, I don't have anything special to go to this week, only my dentist and orthopedic surgeon but they're not special enough for me to get upset if I don't see them this week. LOL I'll just reschedule. Wouldn't it be nice if they would have rescheduled the Winter Olympics for you? Imagine the power!

P.S. If you look at it this way, you won't feel so bad about missing the games: if you went, you would probably make other people sick. You know how contagious colds are! Staying home would be the kindest thing you could do for those whom you might otherwise infect. There! You're a hero!

well, i did, evrwonder. there had been instances when failing to do so meant a lot to me and took a long time to repair, especially functions hosted by close friends or members of the family. but in most, a simple cold will not prevent me from attending functions. also, a long-scheduled function is a must in attendance. you don't want to miss the opportunities, too.

Hi bystander, thank you for stopping by! Just to be clear, this is not a simple cold. I haven't been sick for a long time and this one really knocked me down, big time. I will spare you the details but there is no way I could travel into the city. Still I am a bit leery since I am sneezing and coughing still. I don't want to spread the germs so to infect another, possibly. I am almost better but yes, it is hard when you have an important function to attend and you are at home, sick, sneezing, coughing, blowing your nose. In such a case, I feel it is better to stay put then to attend. The games are almost over and I am not ready to make that trek so, I may just call my friends whom I was to hook up with. That way I am still sort of there, at least they will know my intentions are good and probably thank me for not showing up so to spread this nasty cold to them.

thanks also, evrwonder, for taking time to explain. well, you did well in deciding against going to the games. you will surely not enjoy what you'll be watching with the discomfort of having that kind of cold.

Hi bystander, you're welcome, no problem. I agree. What fun would it be if I were to attend but constantly blowing my nose & sneezing, right? Not to mention feeling tired from such a cold but also the travel and sights. So far, it's been alright catching the hockey games and ice skating on t.v. I have missed much but seen some so I'm good. Still coughing but it's almost gone!

This happens to me when I get my priorities mixed up. My body wins every time. I may be frustrated but after review can usually see what the body was trying to tell me.

Well said Pat and I agree. The body has it's way of speaking to us and in most cases it is wise to heed any warnings. In this case I have. I've had to, no other choice since I've been in no shape to get to go anywhere really. This has been a really nasty one to say the least but .. I am almost all better. Yes! Priorities is right. It is a shame to miss our (local) games but there is a reason for everything. Thank you for your response.

Well, yes. I've missed a couple of parties in the past because of illness. Once I even missed our class trip too, I was really indignant. However, sometimes I've also decided to take part in an event despite my sickness. I remember two soccer tournaments I was playing on while having a high fever. I was the goalkeeper of my team, so there was nobody who could replace me properly, I had no other chance.
