I would rather have XP, I just find it better for me. I do not intent to change until I have to. All other systems, will just have to go on without me. I will pick one when I have to, not until then. If you are happy with XP,why not stay with it.

Linux is definitely a better operating system, it's the best there is, but it's difficult to use for beginner users, windows XP is a lot more user friendly but lacks in security a great deal compared to linux.

Linux is better if we consider stable and virus free OS.But Linux is difficult to install, and we cannot get application we needed supported by linux OS easily. And windows is always becomes affected by virus but still its easy to use OS and we can get almost all types of applications for supported by windows.Installing of windows is also user friendly.

This is always going to be a personal preference, and you cannot decide unless you actually try Linux in order to compare the two. Simply dumping Windows would not be a wise option, so I suggest that you either run a dual boot between them or even try using Linux via a Live CD. Most Linux distributions now come on Live CDs, so you can boot into the operating system and try it, then simply reboot and remove the CD without ever installing anything to the hard drive.

Howdy dhanasekart1984! As for as as it concerns being smart and greater in functionality, stability and security, Linux is better. Any Linux distro are also highly customizable OS accordingly to the likes, wants and needs of any different individual users. That's is why there are more than a hundereds of Linux Distros and are free to use and can be customize. Versus to least option MS Windows OS that are buggy, not stable and not totally secured, and it is not free. But you have to invest on learning first but in the end it will paid well. As for a Linux user only - it is simple, easy and more exciting to use. One of the advantages of using Linux is the internet functionality. Can even install inside virtually on Linux OS an installation of MS Windows OS. Linux can run into any computers from an old classic personal computer to a more sophisticated of today's computers even on servers or mainframes. And even on other technologies like on robotics and automation. Don't be confused just have fun to learn and use Linux. Try Ubuntu it is much easier to use. You can have multiboot between MS Windows and Ubuntu. You can also put or install the Ubuntu OS on a thumbdrives so you can use on any computers you want. Thanks and Enjoy! myLot!

I have been using LInux before. Linux as my boss said is much safer than windows xp, but I am having difficulty on sending emails since some of the receiver are using Windows XP and I am the only one Using Linux. We even bought a book so that we can study Linux, but there are terms I don't understand. They said Linux is user friendly, but I find the difficulty of understanding its system. Good thing, we cam back using Windows XP now.

linux - linux vs windows
From the common user point of view, XP is much more user friendly. And is easier too find the programs you need. Anyway linux is for sure a better operative system, more safe, without the common problems of windows like the registry, and so on. I suggest you to get a copy of Ubuntu linux (one of the easiest and more user friendly linux distributions), and try it, without uninstall XP. Both the systems can live togheter on your hard disk using a dual boot. Ubuntu can also be used as a "live" distribution, it means you can try it starting directly from the CD, without need to install it on the hard disk. Wish this can help you.

I was confused when I was using Linux, but I it takes time understand any technology. I would say stick with windows xp, or even better if you have option upgrade your operating system to windows 7. It is really good, I have been using it for the past 4 months. And I am pleased with the new features.

For me Windows XP is undoubtedly better due to it's user-friendly interface. I'm not sure about Linux though. I think there will be a lot of software/application incompatibility issues with it.

I find Windows better if for no other reason than the fact that you can get text support. On Linux in my experience you cant get anyone to help you unless you have someone fix your computer. forget support, tech guys at Verizon at my cable company.

Hi Friend, If one needs to select an O/S for commercial use, or primarily for web hosting, Linux, Unix or Solaris O/S are the best. However, for personal use, I would like to have the ease of use and installation of a Windows O/S. Linux based systems have improved. However, they still are a bit geeky for home users. However, if you like experiementing, try with Ubuntu or Mandrake Linux on your home system. More from here: http://www.michaelhorowitz.com/Linux.vs.Windows.html A bit : " Both Windows and Linux come in many flavors. All the flavors of Windows come from Microsoft, the various distributions of Linux come from different companies (i.e. Linspire, Red Hat, SuSE, Ubuntu, Xandros, Knoppix, Slackware, Lycoris, etc. ). Windows has two main lines. The older flavors are referred to as "Win9x" and consist of Windows 95, 98, 98SE and Me. The newer flavors are referred to as "NT class" and consist of Windows NT3, NT4, 2000, XP and Vista. Going back in time, Windows 3.x preceded Windows 95 by a few years. And before that, there were earlier versons of Windows, but they were not popular. Microsoft no longer supports Windows NT3, NT4, all the 9x versions and of course anything older. Support for Windows 2000 is partial (as of April 2007). The flavors of Linux are referred to as distributions (often shortened to "distros"). All the Linux distributions released around the same time frame will use the same kernel (the guts of the Operating System). They differ in the add-on software provided, GUI, install process, price, documentation and technical support. Both Linux and Windows come in desktop and server editions. There may be too many distributions of Linux, it's possible that this is hurting Linux in the marketplace. It could be that the lack of a Linux distro from a major computer company is also hurting it in the marketplace. IBM is a big Linux backer but does not have their own branded distribution. Currently there seem to be many nice things said about the Ubuntu distribution. "

ya im used to Xp and im comfortable with this.. only problem is virus.. thats the reason my mind is in duo

Being a linux user myself I would say linux but it's personal preference to weither you want to use it and on some distributions of linux it can be a nightmare to work with but with me I feel comfortable with linux. So all in all it's what you feel comfortable with, Try a Linux LiveCD and see what you think, with it you don't unistall the XP OS and you can use Linux to try it out.
