I would say wear and tear should be the first thing to look for...it is highly doubtfull you'd find an older model in new condition (if you do its worth a fortune). Look at the hardware and electronics in particular for dust accumulation and such. I think though if you come a cross the new re-release, you'll know it. Personaly, I'd go with an older one if you can afford it, they seem to develop a very nice mellow sound with age that you just can't manufacture in to it.
