Do you visit zoos while you are on holiday?

I am not much in favour of captive animals in a zoo. Especially big animals that are taken out of their natural habitat. However the sea lions in the Melbourne zoo have found a haven there after being rescued and given treatment. One of the sea lions have still marks around her neck. It s a sign that we should be careful of what we throw in the sea. We will harm other creatures. Do you visit zoos while you are on holiday?

Zoos around the world differ considerably. I visited Sydney's zoo and the animals were treated very well indeed. In South Africa I visited a game reserve which was very enjoyable. It was excellent for photography purposes. I was lucky enough in my twenties to go on a five day safari in Kenya to the Masai Mara and Lake Nakaru. That is the most special way to see wildlife in its natural habitat. Rather than visit zoos on my travels these days I get pleasure from seeing animals in nature instead of those in captivity. In South Africa I saw penguins. In Australia I saw kangaroos, koalas and cockatoos. In Indonesia I regret seeing a sad pool full of crocodiles. They had hardly any room to move. I love to go snorkeling in the sea when I get the opportunity. I have swam with sting rays and black tipped sharks. Some zoos are world famous and really glorious whilst some a sad places full of cruelty. Many people where I live like Bristol Zoo because it cares about the animals feelings. Some zoos do conservation. I put rubbish in a bin and never throw anything into the sea.

I wish I had the opportunity of seeing animals running freely in a safari rather than being captive in a zoo. I have visited various zoos during my stay. Most of them had big compounds for animals such as lions tigers and elephants but they are still out of their habitat and makes them sad. Thanks for you submission.

I actually love zoos, they provide a habitat that is as close to the natural environment as possible. I appreciate the work they do to ensure that humanity does not lose whole species of animals in the process of educating the public about the many species that live throughout the world, and it gives you an appreciation of the animals you see there.

I suppose that it depends on the zoo. There are places where the zoos are just animal jails. But you can see Disneyworld´s Animal Kingdom as a great zoo. And it´s wonderful. Years ago I also went to a zoo near Miami and was very well kept. I think that those visits to the zoo were mostly when my children were little or with my grandchildren. I have other priorities when I travel now. Take care!

Picture of a sea lion - this is a picture taken from the coastal veranda. Then there are rocks and after that the ocean. The animals are free.
In Chile, my country, there are places where these animals roam free.

I too only visited a zoo once and that was quite along time ago... I did though have a lot of fun seeing many different types of animals...its always good to see them up and close and personal rather that just seeing them on tv or internet...but overall a very good experience....

I've been to the one in Toronto. but for me it's way too much walking. If I can arrange to get a wheelchair when i get there, then it will be an OK place to go, but otherwise, I am not interested in going somewhere where I have to do that much walking.

One of the last times I went to Philly , I went to the zoo. It is a spacious place. I know how you feel, These great animals should be able to live in their habitat but as long as there are humans out there who will kill them , they need to be in zoos. That way kids can learn about them too, If a kid never sees a tiger , he/she won't care if they disappear.

I like to visit the zoos but we seldom go there. Usually we will have a trip when we have more days off in the holiday. We won't go to the zoos in the holiday. We will go there on weekends only. I love China

I have visited a few zoos. I like the ones in Canada like Grandby Zoo. Animals have big compounds to roam around freely in.

Till now, i have only been to the zoo in my own country and nowhere else.. lol =D I dun have the time to visit the zoo in thailand while i was there too.. hehe ^_^ BUt if given the chance to visit zoos, i will do it.. Though animals might be the same, but the surroundings and settings are definitely different for every country.. ALso, zoos are tourist attraction too, and thus it has got to be unique to their own culture.. hehe

Hi Ronald, I have only been to Africa on holiday but then went onSafari, it was beautiful to see all the animals in their own habitat wild and free yet to know at the same time they are being protected day and night by the rangers out there..it was a fantastic experience. The one Zoo I did go to was a reptile Zoo am a herpecologist so found it fascinating looking at all the reptiles there, the thing is they did have big spaces to be enclosed in apart from some venomous snakes that were in large cages. Personally I keep a royal ball python snake in a large cage myself but do know that she is safe and also will probably live longer than if she was in the wild...mainly as snakes are killed or obviously eaten as prey...LoLo

Some of the zoos dont have here require space and they are in bad shape. Some are well maintain.SO i think so its depends upon how these zoos are manage. Here some zoos are actively participating in breeding of vanishing species and thus helping us to preserve animals.
