Help! My mouse is on the fritz and it's driving me crazy.

For some reason, my USB laser optic mouse is on the fritz
and it's really driving me nuts. The computer
keeps telling me that it doesn't recognize the USB device
and cuts me off in mid sentence as I'm trying to post
on Mylot.
I swapped out the mouse from my daughter's computer
and she's having a little better luck using the mouse,
but now I'm stuck with a roller ball mouse.
It's not much better, but at least my mouse doesn't
quit every five seconds or when I'm in the middle
of posting something on Mylot or checking my emails.
Guess it's time to put a mouse on my shopping list.
Do you ever have mouse or computer troubles that stop
you from posting on Mylot or just doing anything with
your computer?

i actually did have a surge protector on it-probably what saved it from being totalled.just enough squeaked by to get the card,i guess.

OMG! That is so terrible.
I had that happen to my computer once,
with the lightening strike or at least
I think it must have been a lightening strike.
My computer was fine when I went to bed and
the next morning it wouldn't turn on. I think it
had rained really hard during the night and
the house got struck by lightening.
It was as if it had gone to sleep and just
wouldn't wake up.
Totally weird! And, it was a fairly new computer.
I had that happen to at least two computers.
Since then, I have started using a plug surge
protector. Totally worth the $20 it cost,
cause I can plug my DSL line in too and it protects
that.
It has saved way more than it cost.

It is just that some times of the day MyLot is terribly slow loading. It is almost as bad as if I have dial up. I am learning to get everything done as early as possible and not try to post and respond during that slow time of the day. I do not think it is MyLot, but more that everyone is posting to Mylot at the same time and it just slows down. MyLot is the only place where I have double postings as well. My mouse is fine on both computers, though.

Oh, I'd forgotten about the slow loading
Mylot pages. It's been awhile since I last posted.
I had to leave Mylot for awhile cause we moved and it was
hard to find time to get back to Mylot.
And, then I came back this past week for a few days
and I hadn't noticed the lag in pages.
But I remember now that they do that lag thing,
I just never knew why.
I just can't remember what time of day it happens.
I'm sure I'll run into the problem if I stick
around long enough.
Thanks for your response.

beautyqueen26 I have a USB laster optic and it works beautifully except the pointer wanders at times and gets me things i do not want, but thats a different problem.oh I hate the roller ball mouse. I think my son had to reinstall this or do something I am not sure what, but whatever he did make my computer recognize my device. I did have a roller one that would conk out all the time and I had to pull its plug then reinsert it and the thing would work for awhile anyways. I had a problem about three weeks ago when something went haywire and I could not get logged in, so my son had to troubleshoot it, and got me back on line, then we figured that I had discombobulated something when I shut my computer down before it was through turning off everything. So now I just patiently wait for the computer to do all its things before it shuts itself off. S eems that by shutting it off manually when it evidently was still doing its tasks I had really fouled up things.live an learn.

Thanks for that tip about shutting down
the computer the right way. I'm always so impatient
about those things.
Usually I just
unplug the computer to keep it from drawing
electricity or flip the surge protector switch
and that cuts everything off.
I had not realized
how much damage that could cause.

Yeah, that's a good idea.
I have assorted mouses laying around
that belonged to my older computers.
Most of them don't work anymore.
I'm way behind on ordering new electronics.

however I have a spare mouse, if it does not work then I have to replace it with a USB or PS2 port. Because sometimes I feel a connection on my computer sagging causing my mouse not moving. This happens if you take off and put back so often so the cable which connected to the computer may not be well connected.

I'm going to check into that idea.
Could be a loose connection.
I have suspected that my USB ports might
be malfunctioning, because other USB type
devices such as my speakers malfunction and
stop functioning on occasion.
Perhaps it's not the mouse that has stopped
working but my USB ports and that would
be a much more serious situation that
would need more extensive repairs than I can
afford.
Hopefully it's just a situation with the mouse.
I can more easily afford a $5.00 replacement
mouse rather than replacing the entire computer.
I might just try a PS2 port mouse next time
instead of the USB laser mouse as you mentioned.
I don't seem to have trouble when using a mouse
connected to the PS2 port.
Thanks again for the very helpful suggestion.

I have an optic mouse also. I have had it for about 4 years and it still works fine. *fingers crossed* Sometimes when things are attached through a USB cable static electricity will build up where it is plugged in and normally just unplugging it for a few minutes will fix the problem. Also, did you try resetting the little box thingy on the other end of your USB cable?

Cool idea! I hadn't thought about the
static electricity issue.
Will try that solution.
Thanks again.

I did some research online and someone
pointed out that it could be a driver
issue, like maybe my computer is not
recognizing the USB device. I don't know
where to get drivers for an optical mouse.
It's possible the mouse sustained some
kind of damage that I'm not aware of.

Hi beautyqueen26!
Using a keyboard can make a post also, but not so fast like mouse
I think it may have three reason, the first one your mouse is broken, the second one is your mouse pad didn't compatible with optic devices, and the last one your computer driver can be infected by a virus or maybe the driver of the USB mouse was gone or error, try another optic mouse, if you found the problem persist, maybe your computer was error on the usb device
I don't comfort also if there is no mouse, so after the old one is broken, i'm buying the other one

Thanks for the tip, I've gotta
check out Amazon.
I was shopping on Amazon for an ethernet
signal splitter, had not thought about
getting a mouse from there.

the only thing i can suggest u is that buy a new one .... that can solve ur problem.... or contact ur hardware dealer.... he can better suggest u... if it does not solve the problem then buy a bluetooth mouse... with that u dont have to deal with wires

Wireless is always a good option and
I've considered that before.
Even though they always cost
more, it might be a good investment
considering that I use my mouse ten
hours a day.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Take advantage of the good times while you can.
Maybe stock up on some electronics you'll really
need once you start supporting yourself,
that way you won't have to use your own money
then for common items.
Best of luck with your studies.

ya that is a lot of time.. and that mouse consumes batteries.... every product has some conditions... but wire less is a better option... i usually get happy when i see some of my old stuff is not working.. and gets excited to buy a new one... thats because i dont have to pay from my own pocket because i m a student and my parents supports me.
