what is your favorite of the old video game systems?
what is your favorite of the current video game systems?
mine would probably be of the old systems the super nintendo, because i think i had more games for that then any other i used to love the old atari games and that system too, and i got alot of the classics when they made them for the playstation.
i would love to try the playstation 3, but is out of my price range at the moment, so i currently still have the playstation 2 i hope that they keep making games for it.
i really have enjoyed the playstation 2 it was a nice upgrade from the playstation and since it could also play movies and the old playstation games was like having a 2 in 1 system.
what is your favorite?

To be honest, I never played the really old systems like the Atari systems and SNES and stuff, but I really wished I had. I have a PS2, PS3, and a Nintendo Wii and have to say that I still like my PS2 the best. Why? It plays all my DVD's, I have a ton of games for it, and it has lasted me roughly five years. I recently got a PS3 and am thoroughly disappointed with it. If you must buy a "current generation console," get a Xbox 360 or a Wii. The 360 has much better and more games. I still play my PS2 after all these years and just recently got Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier for it because it the Jak and Daxter series is one of my favorites for the PS2.
I wish I had waited and not gotten the Playstation 3. Its so hard to find a good game under $60 and not rated M. There's only FPS and it doesn't even have one of the best FPS game, Halo. It wouldn't have been such a waste if I could play PS2 games but the new Slim model is not backward compatible. So my advice would be to keep waiting and enjoy that Playstation 2 while you can!

Yeah, the older systems were great in their time. Maybe one day we will look back and say, "what a great console that was" at Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.
I really like the collections as well, especially the ones for the PS3 because it comes on one disc and its in high quality. Although I haven't bought one yet, I am planning on getting the God of War collection for the PS3.
I agree, using a computer, especially a laptop, is more convenient than using the PS2.
The Wii is for those non-hardcore gamers or who just don't like pressing buttons all day. I think they really hit the market well because they got all those non-gamers to buy their console. Personally, I am a traditional gamer and prefer buttons over motion-control.
I believe you can play DVD's on the PS3. It makes sense that it should be able to because Blu-ray players can play DVD's and the PS3 has a Blu-ray player.

yeah I always liked the old systems they were good for that time and can't really compare to what we have now.
I really liked it when the playstation did a collection of some of the old classic games that I used to have, because I don't know what ever happened to my old system it just disappeared after a long time that and I kind of took all the insides on the cartridges out and was just using the chip to play them, but the games still played.
I still play my playstation 2 all the time, since I don't have the extra money to upgrade, but when I want to watch a dvd I will put one in my computer, because the computer has a better screen for watching movies.
My lady got the nintendo wii and she really likes that and since I was a nintendo user before I switched to the playstation platform it has been fun playing with some of those games.
I can't believe you can download movies to the playstation 3, but you can't put dvd movies in it?

Well I guess that would be the original OLD Atari since that was the first one I remember having. Of course I only play word and puzzle games on my computer now and not all that often.

Atari was my first video game systems too its hard to believe how far just video games has come over the years.
I used to have some sort of computer program system called an aquarius system and you had to come up with many lines of programs to get it to run and that was a good learning tool for me, since you had to do so much just to get it to run a program.
I liked it when they put some of the old atari and a bunch of the other old systems on the playstation 2, it brought back alot of good memories and kind of a nostalgic feeling not to mention how long had passed since i played any of those games.
I think my favorite game of all the old ones was Pitfall that was alot of fun.

I always intend to get that joystick thing for the tv that lets you play the old school video games but I never seem to get around to it.
Tell me more about the Aquarius system. It sounds really interesting.

yes i would love to try out a playstation 3 would be weird having a system that you could use to get movie downloads that in itself seems like it would be a cool thing to try out.
yeah i had a lot of super nintendo games over time, mostly sports games since those we're my favorites and puzzle games like family feud and others that one was a little tough cause you could only enter one letter at a time so you had to be fast.

DreamCast was my favourite, SEGA always had quality tittles coming out. Game like Shenmue has redefined the boundary between RPG and action game.
Is a shame to see DC been drowned by the competition, it was truly a masterpiece machine, it was the first of its kind to have online games, which I think was way ahead of its time. Xbox only had the XboxLive years after its initial release, and PS2 only had handful of online games, nothing compare to what the DC had offered.
For modern game machines, I like PS3 a lot, it has a sturdy construction and showing fewer hardware problems than the 360(RROD, E74).
Although many say is hard for PS3 to have great tittles due to large developing costs, it remains a robust machine, with many great tittles like Uncharted, Killzone 2, MetalGearSolid 4, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, and Final Fantasy 13.
The PS3 has great potential for even greater games, it is hard to develop games on it, but it also meant that the machine is possible to achieve what can't be achieved today, when its potentials are better understood great works will be pouring out. Its life cycle can be much longer than the PS2, which still stays in the market after almost 10 years.
PS3 can't do more than just playing games, watching blu-ray is just standard feature, surfing online, watching youtube shows are just easy tasks for the machine.
It can also contributing to science, as the Folding@Home project is using PS3's processing powers to help discover cures for many diseases through distributed computing, which has succeeed any supercomputer on earth.
In my opinion the 360 is much closer to PC than a console, many of its tittles have counterparts on PC, which can play much better with greater hardwares. You need to pay XboxLive membership fee in order to play online, otherwise you can just download things.
The PlayStationNetwork is entirely free, and you can play online as much as you want. You also get to use the PlayStationHome, which is a virtual Online meeting place, the 360 only got avatars for show, for PS3 you can control the avatar in the PSHome, and there are many interesting things you can discover.
The 360 is a good machine, but I think it lacks uniqueness, is like a PC in console form, but you can't change any of its hardwares (by average user). MicroSoft does offer great service, but they do love paying customers better.
I do own both systems, but I just like PS3 better, its potential is greater than that of 360's, and we can expect many great works coming from it.

first off thank you for such a detailed response you have given me a lot of information that i did not know about the newer systems.
I think i would probably stick with the playstation, because i was always a player of those since the first one came out and I'm so used to the controls i don't think i would want to have to learn to use a different system.
we have the nintendo wii here, but it was not bought by me its a fun system, but more geared to the younger generation i think.
The Playstation 3 and the XBOX 360 are both out of the range of what i can afford at this time, but i would probably get the playstation 3 system, because it is the system i am most comfortable playing and i am used to it i just wonder how easy it is to download with it, since you are supposed to be able to download movies with that system i just wonder how long it takes to do that.
it does look like with the graphics and gameplay that it would be a lot of fun to play and i will have to try it out soon.
