The other day I was at the supermarket buying some food. When it was my turn to be served by the cashier, I noticed that the cashier was very sick. Her eyes were watery, her nose was red,and she was coughing. She looked like she should be in bed resting rather than serving people. Then I noticed her getting a piece of tissue paper, and, after coughing so hard, delivered her spit in the thin tissue paper. Yuck! The tissue paper was so thin that I was sure it failed to hold her spit which probably went to her hands or fingers. The next thing she did was hold the food items I was buying with the same hands she used to hold the spit as she had to have the goods go through the electronic calculator. Double yuck! I just stared as I felt I could not do anything at the moment. What would you have done? What are the rules regarding sick employees? Shouldn't they be sent home to rest instead of serve people and spread her illness? What do you think?

well...well..well..i absolutely agree with whatever you say. it is imperative that organisations, especially in customer service of the nature of direct interaction ensure that sick employees are sent home and not asked to leave. it can get very ugly and in some cases also result in loss of business or sales. cannot agree more with you.

In this case you noticed it. There must be countless workers with worse illnesses up their sleeve who mix and mingle with the public oblivious of the harm they do.Unless there is a law to restrict these people from mixing around there is hardly anything one can do. In your case if the packages were sealed you could when you got home could have dry cleaned them with some disinfectant but if the food stuff was open and she handled it yuck is all what I too would say!!
