If you don't want to use software, why not just start typing. Type out your thoughts for awhile, you don't even have to save the document! This way you'll get familiar with the keyboard if that is the problem. If it isn't, then get a book that you like to read and start typing it out, this way you can look at the book instead of the keyboard if that is what you are doing? I'm not sure exactly what you mean but I do hope that these suggestions will / have helped!

You should use some of typing software for your skills to improve in a shorter time. The keyboard layout does not change even in laptop so start practicing now. I started like you also but now, I could type in the keyboard without looking at it. Goodluck

if you really want to get your typing sped improved its best to go to the typing class . but other than that i think we can improve our typing speed unless we type a lot . when i started using computers i dont know to type at all and i will search each letter . but after i kept on using it it used to become easier . here in mylot also we used to type a lot and thus i improved my typing speed even better .

Hi Friend historydog:- It is very easy. You can make your typing by using the following rules:- 1. Always press keys without seeing the keyboard. 2. Make practice regularly. 3. Don't be fast. It is such a experience which will grow slowly. 4. First make your mind pressing keys without seeing, it is very difficult, but for a few days. 5. Don't check your speed everyday. Check speed minimum after 10 days. 5. If you make your speed 25 word per minute then I will tell you more about my experience.

There is a trick to type faster. I found that if you like chatting via the net, then your typing speed will be improved in a short time. This is my experience:) This chatting is much more interesting than practising by the typing software. I love China

well, mylot will help you a lot. typing for your topic and response will help you so the many response you have the more type you need nd if by doing this everyday it will speed up your typing while earning. first thing is you must put your fingers on the right keyboard and start typing the right way and not to jump to the other side. its alright to look at the keyboard. at first you find it slow but sooner or later it will improved.

Hi Historydog, Anybody can become a good typist. Typing is not just about speed. It is about accuracy, too. It is advisable that you take both things as important in your desire to learn to type well. During my college years, internet was a "strange" thing to hear. There were no typing practice software then (would have been better). Because I took secretarial, typing is the meat of the course. Our typing classes were held daily and we practiced during the whole period we were there. We just had our typing books to copy word for word, until we became familiar with the keys. Our typing teacher was so strict, she deducted points from students who glance at their keyboards. All eyes were on the books that we copied our typing practice from. And it was terrible at that time --- we used very old typewriters with keys that were too hard to depress, lol. We were allowed a short time to practice and then we went on speed tests each day. It was scary to hear the teacher's bell to signal us to start typing. Our little fingers were shaking, always ready in the "shift" key as we awaited for the bell. There were so many times that I flunked the test because I thought being fast was enough. I had learned that it is equally important to be accurate in typing. The speed test was scored as "no. of errors times the number of minutes the speed test ran". If you had a 5-minute speed test and you committed 5 errors, it became 25 errors and that was to be deducted from the total no. of words typed then divided by 5 (the no. of minutes the test ran) and you get your typing speed (words per minute or wpm). Oh, those years! But I love it. I once participated in a speed test in my college days and I won! Good practice makes perfect. Practice daily and you will become one good typist! I assure you!

I very well agree with you. Typing is a skill. Like any other skills, practice makes perfect. It will become just any ordinary thing that you do. It will not be a difficult task and a burden to even think of doing it. When typing, you must remember, though, that speed and accuracy are of equal importance.

I increased my typing speed by using Yahoo chat. I was so slow at the beginning that I could not keep up with one conversation, but as time went on I got to the point I could handle 15 of them before my computer crashed from a memory overload. lol It significantly increased my typing speed.

Knowing the keyboard layout would be a great help. Its good to find some typewriting exercises and practise them on your pc keyboard. Practise without looking at the keybaord that would help to type faster. Doing speed tests will train you to be more careful and do fewer mistakes.

Well, I have to say I don't know any better ways than a natural process of memorizing the keyboard. Just spend more time typing there on myLot, try to remember the whole keyboard so you can type without need to keep looking on the keyboard. I think that thing is called a "muscle memory". Your fingers will memorize the whole keyboard soon. Keep typing, friend!;)

hi! if you want to improve your typing speed you better search on the web, because there are many methods shown how we can really speed up our typing speed with more than 100 characters per minute just in two weeks, which i think is really good. I have never tried it, because I don't spend so much time on the computer, and i also don't think my typing speed is that slow

This is how I did it: I was about 8 years old and in 2nd grade when I got my first computer. So I started to type EVERY single schoolwork we had into the computer. At first, I was so slow that it took me a minute to type a sentence. After 2 years I had typed about an A4 page each day, I could finish off a page of homework in just about 10 minutes (constant writing when I know what I'm writing immediately). Now I type a page in about 6 minutes, I have never measured the typing speed though. So I suggest you type everything you need to write at work/school on the PC. It will help.
