Would you choose a particular airline based on its customer service alone?

Just wanted to ask this question, because I had read an article that airlines are finding out that if they are more courteous towards customers, than their profit margin goes up.
It seems, due to the highly competitive and high cost business of flying, airlines are realizing they have to do something to separate themselves from the rest. They are pushing all their employees (from ground staff to pilots) to help passengers solve their problems if the need arises. I don't know if the employees are being compensated for this or not, but they are trying to bring this culture into their organizations. The main reason of course is to improve profit, but if it does help people act more caring towards their fellow human being, then I am all for it.
Would you base your next flight on a courteous airline policy or low price? Maybe both?

I have never flown with Southwest, but from your comment I am guessing they probably don't have the best customer service. If you have the time please give some examples as to why their customer service is so bad. I think we would all love to here about it, so we know to avoid them next time we fly, even if they are the cheapest in town.

I have flown British Airways and Lufthansa, but never with Belgium Air. I have had pretty good experiences with the two airlines listed above, except for the one time I sat next to a person with bad B.O. on a Lufthansa flight. Of course, the airlines can't be blamed for that. I will keep your suggestion about Belgium Air in mind. Thank you.

I liked going on three airlines because they are courteous towards their passengers. I think the seats are comfortable. The leg room is reasonable. These favorite airlines that I have been on are Air New Zealand, Qantas and Virgin Atlantic. I don't think that it is wise to go on flights that are a very low cost. The most important thing is safety. I went with Virgin Atlantic to Cape Town and it was a superb flight. I will be going on a charter airline to Canada this year. Now my son is over two years old the total airfare is a lot. I have to pay for myself,my toddler son and my baby daughter. Customer service is important but it is not the whole story.

Thank you for commenting on your favorite airlines and their commitment to quality service. Price has to be high up on everyone's list these days due to the economic situation, but of course safety always comes first. As far as I'm concerned it is better to pay more and make it to your destination safe and sound, than not at all.

Well, having friendly service is certainly a plus in traveling. If an event occurs when i must choose between two airlines offering the same airfare and safety, i'd choose the one with the friendlier service. Sadly, in this day and time, i mainly travel with cost in mind, so friendly service takes a backseat for a while.

I think most people are feeling the economic pinch. It seems to me that these days most people will make travel decisions based upon low cost servers. Still it is good to know that airlines are trying to improve their customer service. Thanks for your comment.
