How do they do it? - Questioning and pondering...

Friends, as I was going through the various discussions the other day I happened to see half a dozen discussions started by a couple of members on a single day. They may not be doing it every day, but, I was still amazed. Here I am, raking my brain to think of a suitable topic for discussion .I look around , write down when I remember something which can be used later on and try to remember incidents from my life etc; etc; and with all that I may be able to start a discussion once in 4-5 days or once a week....So, how do these members do it? Interestingly, all the discussions that were started that day had good response, and, not one of them had gone into the no response category. So, again how do they do it? I mean think up of so many topics in day? What about you all friends? do you all have a set routine for starting discussions? In my case, I would like/prefer to space out my discussions so that members do not get fed up of watching me page after page...

It amazes me when I see this happen and nearly every day I get a few emails through saying such and such a member has started a discussion, often the total of these out weighing the other emails I get through from myLot. I don’t know how they manage to come up with so many discussions, maybe they have a very creative mind, maybe they just sit there for hours at time brain storming things to discuss or maybe they have spotted discussions from other sites and are rewording them on here, that’s a maybe because I’ve never been inclined to check. Personally I struggle to come up with one discussion a week and to be honest I don’t really want to become a prolific discussion starter. I get more pleasure from responding to other discussions and just having the one current discussion makes it easier to keep up with responding to responses on it. On the rare occasion that I do suddenly get hit with a few ideas for discussions I try to space them out over a few days because I know that I get annoyed, or should that be fed up with, when I just see the same name posting one discussion after another and so don’t want to do the same thing and cause others to get fed up of me.

I agree with you.I know that some of the discussions are staight awy lifted from other discussion sites ,neithger the words nor the topic title is changed LOL... It happened with one of my topics once and the person who had done it, had the audacity to tell me that he had the right to post anything here since I had not posted it on mylot but on a different discussion site... I too would like to have fewer discussions and am happy to take part in other discussions started by friends and members...all the best tdc and have a great evening

I don't typically start discussions, primarily because many of the things that I would like to, there have been discussions a hundred times over on the same topic. On some bored occasion, I have been known to make long lists of topics and work my way through them to start discussions. Other times, I will read a variety of local news articles, check youtube, etc. and in my curiousity, need to communicate opinion, I'll also begin a discussion on those topics here. (:

Hi zoey, It is nice to know that you are being different. I know that the same topics are being churned over and over again, but look at it this way, the responses are different and you are bound to get some new view point as long as the topic is interesting and interests the members too...all the best and happy mylotting

Sometimes the "recycling" of topics occurs due to bad tags. I know that just a little bit ago I responded to a particular discussion. When a friend looked for it using the search function, she couldn't find it. So sometimes despite how much we try to avoid it, it happens lol

Yes I agree, it has happened to me a couple of times. I was looking for a certain topic and I never could find it while searching, but later did locate it quite by accident....

Same here yugasini, I prefer to post my comments in other discussions. It is only on certain days when I feel like starting a discussion that I start one. Looking back I dont think that I have ever started more than one discussion in a day...

Hi yugasini, I too started with an idea of posting at least one discussion each day.But after a while i gave up because I had no time. as for me I have responded to each and every comment that my discussions have received. I had 100+ responses for one of my topics and I have responded to all of them...I make it a point to give priority to that as also take part in other discussions ....all the best yugasini, have a nice day

Hi Kiran...I am with you all the way dear..Infact I too have starting trouble with new discussions and most times I have to rack my brains till it actually creeks before I hit upon a topic for discussion....So I have long since given up this habit and stick to responding to discussions which I feel is less taxing ..he..he..Yes and I have seen that some people really do have the knack of starting simple but good discussions which invite a lot of responses too......Hats off to them.....

Yes Kiran I know how it is.....And to tell you the truth I still am not able to predict what topics appeal to the people here and attract responses like ants to sugar............And often when I feel I have started a discussion which deserve many responses,I end up with just a handful, and some out of the way discussions I start get better responses.....So I too am not much bothered about staring new discussions all the time and do so only when I am in the mood......

The same case here Roseo, the discussions that I take a lot of trouble with end up as near duds, but the ones that I start on the spur of the moment generate a lot of responses. Now I start a discussion when I feel like. But so far I have never ever started more than one discussion in a day

Hi Roseo, The other day I saw one discussion topic which appeared to be very silly to me, but most members seemed to have liked it, going by the number of responses it got ...lol...each one to his own taste. I now start a discussion not out of compulsion,. but because I feel like doing so...no time frame at all, may be once a week or even once in 2 days..All the best Roseo and thanks a lot for the response, have a nice evening

Hi kiran, I rarely start a discussion here except when I want an answer for my question or when it is about football. It is hard for me to started a new discussion because most of the time I would think that my discussion did not worth to discussed it. Starting a discussion also required us to spend more time to comment on the responses that we received. It is not good to leave any response without a comment and that is not a discussion after all. But a lot of people here did not realize it. They just start a discussion and never come back. I prefer to start something that I can give my input back after receiving a response from someone. I also prefer to give my response to others discussion. I fund it easier because I can write more then compare to when I need to give a comment from my discussion responses.

Hi akuler, I agree that we need to respond to all the comments we receive and try to take the discussion forward...But I see that very few people really bother with that and yet they get many responses inspite of having started 5-6 discussions in a day...amazing! I too prefer taking part in discussions started by other members rather than start my own each day.On an average I might start 5-6 discussions in a month...All the best and happy mylotting

Oh yes it happens all the time. One thing good about mylot is that you get paid for what you do, so whether someone responds to your discussion or not it doesn't really matter because it does not bring in any revenue...having said that it makes it easier to earn if you have more responses to your discussion topics when you are responding to the comments and you dont have to go looking for topics to write a comment on...

One thing for sure for those who only started a discussion but never come back to comment their responses is they would hardly reach their minimum payout here. I saw a lot of complains about it here but when we told them what they suppose to do, they just ignore it. They keep their old habit and never want to learn. That make me come to a conclusion that they never come back to read the responses. I do response to some discussion when I knew that the discussion starter never come back to their discussion especially at the end of the month. I did not mind it because I knew I would earn from my work and if they did not earn from theirs then it is their problem.

Since i'm quite new in mylot, i was also wondering how did fellow mylotters get to start plenty of discussions and get plenty of responses. I shared this experience with my husband and he told me because i'm more of the silent type maybe that is why i have difficulty starting a discussion. Anyways what is important to me is that i enjoy reading and responding to the discussions and have learned new things from them.

Hi pinklady, welcome to myLot You must do what you are most comfortable and happy with. With some more time and more interactions you will feel much more confident of starting more discussions.Post more and more and put all your thoughts about the subject into your response and thats all that is required here. All the best and happy mylotting

Hi Kiran! Very rarely I post two discussions or three successively within a week.I am normaly quite lethargic here but these topics always come to mind very suddenly.I just keep posting a few responses and that is it.But, even if I wish to post many I would find it difficult to respond to all simulataneously .If we definitely want to do this , perhaps we can keep on jotting down topics and then suddenly when the mood strikes us, post them all together.

Hi Kiran, I have seen a dozen discussions by some people in one day. But most of them never get back to the responders, they just post their topics and forgetting about it. But the problem is they can’t earn much from their topics. I never started discussions without giving gaps then also I am far behind to give my comments. (I have been not very active for last two weeks due to personal reasons). Still my old discussions are pending for comments. Starting a topic is not really tough but answering to each and every responder is a tedious task and I am failing to do justice to my responders. That is the reason I am not starting any topics now a days.

Dear kiran, don't think about serious discussion. Start light discussions. The subjects may be Alpine to Missile or Bra to Gown. I'm sure you will get many responses. Most of the people interested in light subjects. You can make dozens of light discussions.

Hi bhanu, of course we need to discuss about subjects that everyone is interested in.If one were to start an intellectual discussion, I am sure there will be very few takers, so it's best to go for subjects which are light and not too taxing...happy mylotting bhanu

POSTING or starting half a dozen discussions is possible especially to those who deal with a lot of things in a day. A discussion can be started just about anything under the sun. However, as a fellow lotter said in one of her responses in a separate discussion, a discussion is different from posting a topic. Most of us though, post topics and not discussions. For it to be a discussion, it should at least be something that other mylotters would be interested in responding, or something that will encourage a kind of conversation and not only a one-deal idea. Many of us create a discussion mainly to earn a little just because you posted. We have to make sure that we will get as many responses as possible and involve ourselves ( as the one who started it) in the conversation or discussion that will arise, thus posting comments, going back to it and reviewing it also.

Hi sharlionse, I think what the fellow mylotter said was absolutely right. What we need here to get members interested in is a topic of discussion that all of us can identify with.If there is no involvement, then there is no pleasure in having started the discussion ...thanks a lot band all the best

I think it really takes experience to be able to do that. I myself only posts discussions once in a while, cause like you, I don't really have that much ideas for a new discussion that I know would entails some comments.. I envy those people who can post discussion, and you can sure that it would have a number of comments in a couple of minutes from posting.

I do not think that is a problem with those who try to start each discussion will, if they have ideas and they choose to do something in their style. I try to start discussions when I have time, but it seems that is good to be always here to comment on answers as to keep the discussion alive. I do not think anyone can be against those who start discussion, because if they start talks, what others have to answer .. That is the charm of this site, let people choose what they like best to do here, do not think people make rules, rules are made by Mylot stuff. But it seems that always talks about what some others do here, have the most success, so who knows, knows.

I have been a member here since the site started over 4 years ago. I have been known to start 10 to 15 discussions per day. I use my daily life, it's happenings and family events as discussion material. So it is very easy actually to come up with discussions. I start discussions about my gardening a lot in the spring and summer. I start some about my 4 grandkids and their actions etc. I start discussions about events that happened in my area and on the road as well. There's always something to start a discussion about I feel. IN the past few years I usually start about 5 a day and then only a couple days of the week. As always.... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

Hi BOB, I am not against anyone starting many discussions as long as they are interesting... But I personally am not capable of doing that.I have noticed that the best topics of discussions are the ones that are related to life and every day happenings which every member can identify with...In my case sometimes I find that culture difference can also create a block, like if I have to discuss about festivals , there would be very few responses like wise a discussion about some customs and traditions or about movies, so Now I keep to safe topics that interest all the members...

Not all of the discussions are great discussions even if they all have atleast a few responses. Sometimes we unintentionally start a discussion on things already discussed, so in that respect I mean it is not original. I think that it's fairly easy to make discussions but some days are better then others. Also some people find that they want to put a lot of thought in their discussions and so will mull over them for a few days until they feel comfortable writing it, or content with what they have written...

Hello, Kiran. No, I don't know how people can do that either. I tend to start 2 - 3 discussions a week on average, and I only start a discussion when I know I'll be around to comment on responses. I think it's more fun to respond to lots of different discussions, as you meet new people and learn new things. And I'd be concerned that people would get fed up of seeing me all over the place as well.

Hi Sandra, Thanks a lot for your response.I too prefer to start fewer discussions precisely for the same reason. I like to be around and add my two bits to all the comments that I receive.I like going through each and every response and respond to it.If I have too many discussions and if I have to respond to all of them I would be exhausted and I wouldn't have the time to do it...happy mylotting

Me too, I do not want to be tagged as spammer. However, there are times that I can think of two questions at the same time that I am really curious to get an answer for. Hi keisey, there is no question of being tagged a spammer here as long as you start interesting discussions and add informative comments. I am sure it is okay to post several questions if you feel that the topics that you have thought out are interesting .It is only when you see discussions that are page fillers that you start wondering...All the best and happy mylotting btw I like your profile picture, it is really nice
