Hello all my dear MyLotters.
Do you also have trouble getting out of bed in the morning during the winter, where all the nights seems so long?
My body just seems to be stuck in bed until it starts getting light outside, i dont know why, it is like glued to the bed! So now im extremly happy that the summer is comming to the northern hemisphere because it means that i will have an easier time getting up in the mornings when i need to go to the University :)

Hi Downwindz!
I sleep for six hours weather it's summer or winter and when I wake I get up. About once a month I will oversleep and sleep longer and that is usually when it's raining.
I am lucky that I don't have to set the alarm, except on odd occasions when I have an appointment, because I work the evening shift at work so I can go to bed late and get up when I wake.
If it happens that I sleep more than six hours I either am late to bed the next night or up early the following morning. Lucky that I don't need more than that I guess

I am in the northern part and it has been two long cold months with more snow and ice than ever this winter. The good part about the seasons here is that they suddenly change. Being further south than in UK where I lived before coming here, I notice that very much. When the sun does shine in the early months of the year it is already very powerful and any snow lying about soon thaws.

oO yes the northern have also experienced more ice and snow than they used too, the Salt depots of the Netherlands was all gone allready a bit before new year. And Denmark has been a frozen popsicle for the last 3 months!
But it is great your winters seem sorter, they have promissed an amazing 13 degrees here on friday, lets see if it is gonna last a few days :)

You sound to be pretty lucky indeed. 6 hours is the absolute minimum my body seems to be able to run on, again we are all different and also by needs.
In Italy it isnt extremly cold when it is winter if im correct, unless you are located in the northern part. I wonder if light also changes alot, but again it doesnt matter that much for you because your in the evning shift at your work.

It all depends on what time I go to bed if I go before 11:00pm I'm fine and I have no problems getting up. It seems as if I'm refreshed and ready to take on the world. If I go after 11:00pm it is a different story. I can not seem to get it together right away. I normally lay down a little longer and then get up and rush to do what needs to be done before heading to work. For me it works out better if I get to bed before 11:00pm

Then it is pretty easy for you, just go to bed before 11PM. But then i wonder when you have to get up in the morning.
For myself i also find it easier getting up if i get my regular 7-7½ hours of sleep. I wonder if i need alot of sleep compared to the avarage.

It is actually proven that you have a higher percentage of getting critical illnesses such as cancer if you sleep less than 6 hours a day. Scary thought. So good we need our sleep.

even if it is not winter or what, i still have trouble getting up because i sleep late.
but in your case, if it is really cold (which i never experienced here in Philippines), maybe it is really hard to wake up on that weather.

Maybe most of the getting up troubles is based on the amount of time we sleep, if we dont sleep enough compared to what our individual body needs then we have a hard time getting up?
But here in the Netherlands during the 3 months of wintertime, it is really dark in the morning and you first start seeing the sun after 7.30AM *sigh*

Do I have trouble getting up? Boy! It's probably my biggest trouble of all! If I can just get up as soon as the alarm goes I'd have no problems with being late to work or getting stuff done sooner. This is my biggest problem. No matter how much I resolve otherwise, I still always choose to snooze. :(

LOL i could do that myself too... Or dream that they called and said lectures was off for the day!
Then what about one of those walkin alarmclocks? Then you would have to chase it all over your bedroom and hopefully be awake once you find it and turned it off

In our country, we only have 2 seasons dry and rainy seasons, so we do not experience winter here.
But I went to korea last 4 years ago, and somehow I had experienced winter and its very cold, and i had fun playing with the snow, especially when it is raining snow.
And yes, as what you have said..The body seems to be stuck in bed especially in the morning.
Now, I'm back in my country..but still I have a trouble in getting up in the morning.. I usually got up at 10 a.m he he

I didnt knew that Korea was enough to the north to actually get snow. Im suprised! It sounds luxury to be able to sleep until 10AM but do you then not feel that the day goes to fast? Like it is hard getting something out of the day.

I hope time will go fast for you to get your husband home, somehow sad he is away when he have a family at home waiting for him.

I do not have much trouble getting up in the morning, I usually pop out of bed. Whether I am fully awake or not, I find that that is the only way I won't try to get back to sleep!

That is certainly a good and very clever tactic, then you dont end up like me, fighting to get out of the nice warm bed, knowningly that it is very cold outside :/

Hi, Downwindz. Yes, I do, only when I am very tired and when it is cold inside of my home. I used to be like this a lot when I used to stay with my grandma at a younger age. I would hate to get up because the trailer was so very cold. We had to get instant warmth from the stove in the kitchen. And we had to wait for the Kerosene heater to heat up. It was so cold then. But now, her trailer gets so hot in the winter, you would think that it is summertime! Thank God, for Central Heating and Air!

Hello Cream
ahh Central heating made a change on this world as we knew it for sure. I like most aspects of the house im currently living in, but i miss FLOOR heating! in the winter downstairs my floor is almost frozen, because it is with tiles and not wood or carpet.

I also have trouble getting up in the morning every day. Alarm clocks don't work on me. That is why I just tell my family members to wake me when they wake up. I love to sleep. That's why I especially love weekends. Weekends mean more sleep for me. I can wake up at almost noon with no feeling of grogginess.

When i was younger i could also sleep away from the alarm clock, maybe because it had the same tone? After i moved in with my boyfriend and his radio alarm clock it seems easier for me to wake up, because the music is different every morning.

It is certainly very comfortable staying under the warm duvey in the cold winter nights, no wonder it just gets even harder to get up when it is also dark outside... And i certainly look forward to the summer...

Yeah,I have this trouble especially during the winter. Actualy, this days I get up nearly at noon and can't fall sleep early at night.I know it's not a regular and healthy life style for me and I determine to change it but it's too hard for me. Maybe I can found a good habit to get up early just when I back to school a few days later.

I think that would be a great idea for you, to change your habbits into a more normal day. It is actually said if you lack of daytime light, then you are more likely to end up depressed.

Ahh yeah it would be very stupid of you to miss out on college classes just because you feel like getting 5 minutes extra, that can accumulate alot of missed class hours during a year and could cause troubles at the exams. Keep up the good work!

Waking up in the morning sucks. I drag my self up gulp down a couple cups of coffee and wander to the couch(where I on several ocasioans fall back asleep on). It doesnt matter when I go to bed.

i just don't like getting at any time in the morning. i am not a morning person by any means. i just got a temp gig for a few weeks and it's in the afternoon. the rest of the time, i work from home. temp gig is a sinch, too. free money. getting out of the bed in the morning feels like gravity is just sinking you down.

Hello youless.
I think it is great for you to have a child, it causes you to be strong as you mention and to show that you just cant be lazy all day. I wonder if it would be easier to get up for you so you need to fight less if you go a little earlier to bed? maybe like half an hour?

I am always an early riser despite the weather. I really do not know why but I find it hard to sleep back when I am awake already. I usually wake up at 6 am. So I would take a coffee as I get up and sit around and enjoy a couple of minutes savoring my coffee before going to the shower. On Sundays where I have no work, I still wake up at 6 but often stays in bed. Though I do not sleep back anymore. I usually rise around 6:30 or 7 am and then enjoy my coffee.

Im jealous, getting up early gives you the posibility to get so much more out of the day.
My dad is also an early bird, he gets up by himself every day around 4.30AM, no alarm clock is needed! And he first need to be at work around 7AM, but only during the normal weekdays, monday-friday, his off in the weekend but still get early up.

Winter weather tends to make me sleepy a lot of the time. To the point, I am really reluctant to even entertain the idea of getting out of bed. I just wonder what the point is, there really is no reason for me to drag myself out of bed. The day is rather dismal, it appears that there will be no brightness or warmth, can't I just stay in this nice cozy bed?
As nice as that will be, I just have to get up and face the day. It might be a struggle but it is just one of those things that really have to get done. Somehow, someway, I do it. Still, I do agree in the winter, it can be a chore to motivate myself to get out of bed. Still, just one of those things that I have to force myself to do, no matter how hard it is or how much I do not want to. I'll be glad when the winter is over, that way I can motivate myself a lot easier.

I used to be a morning person but I don't know what happened! No, that's not true, children happened! Now I sleep through my alarm, my husbands's alarm, thunderstorms, etc. But as soon as there's a small squeak from my 3 yr old I'm practically standing beside her bed before I realize it.

It sounds like your the type of person that should get a night or an evning job, especially if you feel more awake during the evening.
But i wonder most people seem to adapt it is just a habbit of getting used to a new daily rythm and it should be changeable.
