Lol, I doubt the people in Haiti were so righteous themselves. They probably wasted things too, and had parties, and other events where food went to waste. We aren't the only people who waste things. Maybe the people who waste the most, but still. Besides, I think we are doing more than enough. It's not like we don't have people in our country who are suffering, but we will jump at the chance to help others' to better our reputation. Seriously. Think it through a little more. Everyone suffers, and disasters happen to everyone.
I'm not saying we shouldn't help, but we don't have to go overboard.

Yes....I won't waste the food. If the food is in the larger quantity I always call 1098. Its child care centre number.......they come and collect the extra food from our offices or residences.

I never wasted food since I was young because I was raised up from a poor family were foods are valued the most. Even though I go to parties and I get foods, I make it sure that I will finish eating all those stuff that I get. I always think that I am lucky to have foods to be eat so I really not waste it because my father worked hard from it. My mom teaches me of that manner, I also see her when if there are some excess foods in our house, she will give it to our neighbor because she said that foods shouldn't be wasted when there are people who need it the most.

my mom used to say " don't waste your food, don't you know that a lot of people in other parts of the world are not eating?
i used to answer, o yeah, we should waste our food, poor them.
i told that same statement to a friend and guess what he said:
though i eat all of these extra food, would it make difference to those who doesnt have any? it will just make me sick, if am full and try to finish all because am thinking of those people who are not eating.
i laugh, because he's right.

I try my best not to waste food. There are lots of people in my country who are trying hard even to have stomach full food once in a day. In that situation, I should not waste food. God will never forgive me if I waste food. I end up eating more food as I don't want to waste. My husband and I don't like to keep food in refrigerator and heat up.

I have actually thought about this issue and that's why I don't waste lots of food at all. I like to eat a lot during a meal. It's not that I am kind of a food destroying machine, my stomach has it's limits. I just like to fill myself nicely up so I can survive without problems until the next meal. I don't have problems with extra kilos, so I don't have to worry about my weight. When eating at school I see lots of food going to waste because many students don't actually eat full portions of food, some of them don't eat that food offered here at all. It's sad, because there are countries where people would give anything to have such decent meal we have every day.

Hi vasanthmbe, it really is a topsy turvy world out there, some people are dying due to malnourishment, while others are wasting food without a second. As for me and my family, we try to minimise our wastage on food by preparing the exact amount neccessary for each meal(mind you, nobody is kept starving or unsatisfied). Thank you.

in a party, it's hard to avoid not to waste some food, I mean it must be a big amount of food we'll waste. and it's pity. but in my daily life, I almost never waste my food. I take only a small amount on my plate to avoid wasting food. and if I'm still hungry I can take the second meal on my plate. by this way, I could avoid myself not to waste food too often..thanks..

As of now, I am thinking of the food I had back then whenever I have the money to buy anything I want and sometimes if i cannot eat all of them it will just spoiled. But now, since I'm already independent and I have to work and earn for a living, left over food is I think a rarity for me hehe... We're still lucky that we could easily find something to eat compared to some other countries (like in Haiti and most countries in Africa)...

Yes I thought of this. I don't like festivals or parties at which the food is used to be throught and people have fun with that. I already know by myself that to have food on yor table means working for it and I just can't have fun to waste it.
I don't fall in the other extreme - to eat everything from your plate. My body is not a recycling bin and noone will die from hunger because I've eaten or not some bites from my meal. I don't understand people who force themselves ao their kids to eat everything that was served.

Yea I have. Although throwing away a little food now and then seems inevitable in American culture. People often literally bite off a little more than they can chew and can't help but to not want to finish their food. I'd say an even worse problem is those that get way WAY too much food, and eat it all, filling themselves up way passed a healthy point.

Hey this is ian salter from buffalo ny, and actually this is the best post i seen all month !. Its good that you mentioned that because i think organization that have huge celebrations and parties shouldnt just throw food out that havent been touched, i think they should refrigerate it, rap it up, and get an organized company to send the food to haiti. Now think about it, if 85 % of people that have these huge parties and celebrations save the ontouched food and send it to haiti, most of haiti population will be definetly fed, trust me i did research on it. Keep this idea in mind people, you wouldnt want to be stranded and hungry, we got to do our best to help others that need, its how you grow
