do you know how to upload html template?

hi there friends, I am a newbie in making a blog.
I know a lot of mylotters has their own blog also.
Do you know where I can download a template and then I can make use of it.
yesterday I spend really my time checking on a template and
when I uploaded the file its an error. Might not be compatible.
What file should I download. I still have to extract the file and found that like notepad file, did I upload the right file. 
or
do you know where I can check for a new template which is simple.
and I can upload it directly to my blog.
Appreciate you response, will be a great help to me.

what do you mean and why will you upload it, i used template with my blog with .xml format its very easy to install, i will give you a link how to install blog templates with .xml format and you can also browse the site for some cool templates that they have http://btemplates/faqs/#instalar
