When I was in school , I always think about dress code. But I never understand the need of dress code. Can anyone help me finding guds in dress code.

i once worked in a guidance office so i know dress codes for school: no sleeveless tops, no torn pants, no slippers no matter if it is jimmy choo flip flops, no sandals for the males, no bold hghlights or bold streaks on the hair of both males and females, groomed hair for the ladies and short hair for the men, no short skirts and no tight fitting clothes for both males and females.

Hi friend,
Yah thats fine for all of us. And even for students. But one should not restrict a person to wear a particular color clothes as because they are in dress code of school , university or office. As we all know every color represents our nature and even a research shows that color makes our nature. Why a person may change his nature to dull one as his dress code is a dull one.

-It gives students a sense of identity. When they walk in streets , the public knows what school they come from.
-It's used to prevent students (who are poor) being humiliated (because of their low quality clothes) by making everyone where the same clothes. IT also unifies people in the school.
-It's easier to just to wear a uniform than worrying every morning about what u r going to wear.
-It makes the school seem more disciplined. Ie better public image.
BLAH BLAH BLAH :) U get it.

Hi friend,
It can be your thought, but can not be reason for reasons for implementing dress code. You can not force student because It's easier to just to wear a uniform than worrying every morning about what u r going to wear. Or for any other reason. Ofcourse it provide student identity, but if student is not willing to do so, why not you leave him all alone and let him / her wear what he / he wants.

When you are in school the teachers want you to focus on the book work. Most schools feel enforcing a dress code helps with this problem. By making people cover up, especially girls, it helps to stress the fact that guys should not be interested in girl's assets. They feel that if a girl is dressed appropetely then boys would have nothing to look at. In most cases this can be considered true, but it doesn't stop everyone.
Also depending on the school dress codes help with anything like cooking, etc. Some sicence classes deal with harsh chimcles too which helps as well.
Schools will always find a reason to justify dress codes. And, as students we have to comply.

hello to you! I used to hate dress codes also. But then, I figured that it's very important for the image of the school especially if it's a business school. It makes students more presentable and respectable. :) For girls, closed shoes are advised plus a blazer. For guys, leather shoes and a formal suit. Although these can vary from school to school. :)

Hi friend,
I am in agreement with the point raised by you, it makes students more presentable. But I always thought that it should not be compulsory, it may be part of moral of school. But one should not force students to wear such kind of things. Here I would like to come with some news for you, IN INDIA in JAMMU n Kashmir 3 girls were killed because they refused to obey dress code only. .
Horrible na. I raised this topic here to tell people about what is happening in the world and how the students are forced to wear dress code.

hi this is bhanumurthy,
dress code is very importent because it shows the equality between all student so that
there is no difference between rich and poor .
so that students can mingle with one another .
so i would like to say that dress code is must for the student

Hi friend,
You raised a good point , ofcourse dress code is basically meant for socializing the students. So that they can mingle with each other.

Dress code or uniform is a must for every school. It not only bridges the poor and rich people but a good nation to grow with. It doesnt rationalize humans but integrates the whole nation.

I think dress codes are still a good idea for schools. I know most kids don't care for it though. When a person attends school, it is for the purposes of learning, and not a fashion show. I think a lot of the ways kids dress is so that they stand out among their peers, yet too much of a difference is a distraction. If a girl dresses too sexy, for instance, all eyes are going to be on her and not their schoolwork! Our schools out here do not allow t-shirts with printing on them, because a lot of gangs in school adopted a certain type of t-shirt to identify the members of their gang. Behind every dress code, there is valid reasons for why they have them in the first place. The other alternative to dress codes would be school uniforms, where every kid is presented as equals, and can't be judged by the clothing they can afford.

None of the schools that I attended had a dress code. The one that my sons go to has a small one. Mostly no offensive t-shirts, older boys must be clean shaven, and shirts tucked in with belts. I think school uniforms is a good thing, that way no child is ever made fun of because they do not have the hot item for that week. Every child is wearing the same thing.

As a child I hate wearing a school uniform, but as an adult and a parent I can now see the practical issues behind it. For one all the children are dressed the same, therefore they are all equal and not trying to out do each other with the latest trends. Secondly it's about representing the school and working and belonging to a group.
There are no school uniforms here in Spain, but I so wish there was. My daughter is getting to the age where she wants to wear what she wants to wear, rather than what I tell her to, and sometimes it can become a bit of a battle ground.
