Will you pay for it? Is it fair???

Hi Mylotters and my friends! Today I traveled with a friend of mine to the nearest or maybe not so, city- 80 km from my town. And do you know what i've noticed- that the most of the road was in very bad condition and we all must pay Vignette fees, if we want to drive our cars outside the city/town. And I am very indignant about that, that in my country people should pay Vignette fees just to break their vehicles. How are the roads in your countries, will you pay this fee, if you had the same roads? i am waiting for your answers

Well I don't know. Is there another way to get there? If there's a reliable train or bus system, I would probably use that instead. I can see paying fees to drive on good roads, but crappy ones? Something about this system sounds broken...

that sucks - we don't have a really good transit system here, but at least the roads are fairly decent... Still, if you take the bus, at least it's their tires that are getting ripped up and not yours!

Yes, not something, the whole system is broken, it is one big shi***** and I hate it. I can't take the bus, because it will also drive on the same road. the train is also not very cheap, but the trains here are the slowest transport and also the most cranky, because our trains and carriages are 40 years old. CAn you believe it?

yes, you are right, but just imagine that the bus goes in a pothole with a high speed? what will happen then? there will be innocent victims which is the worst!

Ya its the same here. You pay lots of taxes that are suppose to help pay for the roads, yet the roads are in terrible condition. where is the money going? Its just like our schools though. In Georgia where I am currently living (u.s.) they talked everyone into getting the lottery in Georgia. They said the money from the lottery would go to pay for the schools, and taxes would be lowered. They are making alot of money from the lottery just like they said they would, but taxes have gone up, and the schools are getting worse, parents have to now provide classrooms with materials that the schools should be providing. So where is all the money going? No one knows. They have excuse after excuse. Someone's getting rich.

hI! Yes, i ask myself the same thing- where are the money going? and do you know the answer- they are going in the politicians pockets, there were they go! And to collect money for school from the lottery is something really very stupid and I think, if you government have decided it you should go and burn down the parliament of Georgia as we must go and burn down ours too I really hate politicians

Well it is just apity to payfor roads which are not good enough... but the basic point is that you should be able to ask the authorities where the money being paid by you is being used. If it is a compulsary payment then this might be your right.. here we can ask the government officilas about the state of the roads where our money is being used but most people dont really know that they can and stay ignorrant of this fact.. they continu to curse the officials ...even though it is as much their fault as it is of teh officilas..

yes, it is very very pity, but there are no other way if we want to drive our cars on it, because if the police stops us, we must pay very high fine. well, in my country the government tells us too, where the money are, but they lie for the amount they have been given!

Hi, phonenix8606. The roads are decent here, we have some roads that they have fixed on to make it better as far as traveling is concerned. I would not pay any fee to drive my car outside the city or town. No road will tear my car tires up if I can help it! This is messed up. This needs to be taken to the town city council. A meeting needs to be set up for this issue. I am sure that local residents are not pleased at all with this issue. I know that I would not be. The city needs to fix these roads up so that residents can leave outside of the town. If you can't leave then you all will be held like prisoners. Which is no way to feel!

yesh, it is so, but the people who must care for it, are really not interested in it, because they prefer to steal this money and use it for something else, use it for them

Well, in our country, it's call toll fees, and you really don't have a choice whether you can pay it or not. Hehehe. Before the roads were really bad, but now, all the major roads are well maintained and are always being changed every so often years, so I wouldn't mind paying cause I can see where the money is going..

That's true. It's annoying when they ask you to pay large amount of taxes, but all you get is crappy service. this goes not only for the road tax, but also to all the taxes the government is imposing. I'm sure if they give good service, and the people will see the results, then they will be more than willing to pay off they due taxes to them

yes , it is common and we have to pay one or the other named fees. I do pay tax for using roads but still going to some area does take some extra money by the name of fee, did not try if that is really needed. There is a difference in need and wish. I do not wish to pay for this buy need to pay if have to travel that area :)
24 Feb 10
yes, it is better only to pay for the area a smaller tax then paying for the whole road a higher one!

Toll charges are supposed to expedite road construction, and help in maintenance. That is what is happening in my country. Road users are prepared to pay because the journey becomes smoother and faster. In many cases the travelling time is reduced by half. Having to pay for a nightnarish travel experience means that someone is cheating road users. Maybe road users should try voicing it out if they are allowed to do so.
24 Feb 10
yeah, they are really suppose to expedite tehe road construction but not in my country, because the money just disappear in someone's pocket.

In the states here, we pay taxes, all sort of taxes. So, I guess our taxes already cover that fee for us to drive on a public road, or an international highway. But our road condition won't be that bad, since they will have road repair once in while. So, what country do you live at?
24 Feb 10
kingparker, i live in Bulgaria. maybe you have heard of it. our roads must be also in good condition because we pay high taxes but aS I TOLD, the money just disappears in the long chain of fools in the parliament Adalie, hi! I see you are in the same condition like me, maybe i must upload some photos to compare them with the road in your area. we can make a contest The WORST ROAD IN THE WORLD :)

Well I dont know what country your from but here in Norway we pay taxes and toll to keep the roads in shape. Even with that theres still alot of roads that are terrible here. At least we dont have to pay for destroying a car, that seems a bit too much. Its sad to say it but i usually just pay and dont think about it.
23 Feb 10
hi! We also pay for the good shape of the roads but the fu*** politicians put the money in their pockets and don't care about it. We also not pay for breaking our cars but it looks that way :)
