I work from home full time and for the past year it has been quite an adventure. But hear lately I feel like I have lost focus and sometimes even dread coming to my computer. Have you ever felt burnt out? If so what did you do to get through it and get back on track?

OH my. I do always feel that every single day lately. But then whenever I think of the bills that I need to pay, I re-focus and talk to myself to remind me that I have to do a lot of work and concentrate to earn something.

It helps to have a "bulls-eye" of what you are tryiong to accomplish and to work each day a bit toward that. Best of luck...

When I start to feel burned out I usuallly take a break from my work for instanse by reading or playing some games. If I only work and work, I start to lose focus after a while, and it is important to me do something else for a while, that is the only way than I can get new energy. Sometimes when I take a break, I start feeling guilty, and I feel that I ought to make some money instead of doing other things, because I know that I have bills to pay etc. But I have discovered that I can get a lot more work done, if I make sure to take some breaks, because I really get a lot of new energy that way.

Yes. Today as a matter of a fact. I was on a business trip, and had to take three flights to get back home. I was traveling over 10 hours.

It happens to all of us who work from home and because we are our own boss it can be a huge problem. What I tend to do is when it gets to the point that I am spending more time trying to avoid and dreading doing work than actually doing it I take two days off from working and try and get away completely from all things work orientated, finding time to do those things which I love but don’t make time for normally. Then I give myself an easy week, scheduling just the minimum work I need to do giving me plenty of free time once I have got them done. After that it slowly creeps back up to a cram packed working week but in the mean time will have recharged the batteries and feel ready to work again. It sort of goes into a cycle where every few months you hit burn out and just have to give yourself some time out to be you and not just be about working.

I'd walk away from my computer for a day...a week and go somewhere, probably with a family member or friend. Is there an office associated with your home full-time job? Go to the office...socialize. People are social beings and I think some of your inability to focus is the lack of meeting and talking to people. So go meet some people and enjoy. Forget about the computer for a day.
