I know this subject is fairly taboo especially since the Olympics are in full-stride, but that also makes it a great time to put the subject into perspective. The Olympics are suppose to be a time and place for the entire world to unite in friendly competition. This is not ment to be a time for poor sportsman ship, hatered, racism, or ill wishes. But, even the best intentions can't stop tragedy from hitting. In 1972, the Olympics were to return to Munich, Germany, for the first time since 1936 when Hitler was still in control. Now this makes the story even more interesting. In 1936 Hitler hoped that the games would give him a chance to publicize the superiority of his Aryan race to the world. But, the games in 1972, were intended to ease the racial tensions that Hitler left behind. Remember what I said about good intentions...On September 5, with only six days left for competitions, eight Aarb terrorists raided an apartment with Isreal athletes staying there. They killed two of them and took nine of them as hostages to exachange for Palastinian prisoners. By the time everything was said and done, all nine hostages were dead, along with two terrorists, one police officer, and three Palastinians. So even though Germany did have the best intentions at heart, the Olympics of 1972 in Munich is still known as the "worst tragedy in the history of the Olympics".
My question is what are your thoughts on this subject or did you know about this at all. Every time the Olympics come, you never really here about the tragedy that comes along with it almost every time do you?
