Do you ever hide money intentionally from yourself around the house? Every now and then I will come across some paper money that I had hidden from myself, just so I could be surprised to find it later on. It's neat, because you forget it and then wallah, there's ten dollars that you had forgotten about. Have you ever hidden money from yourself? Share your thoughts on your habits with money.

There are times where I find myself doing this. Put money in a jar in the closet and do not look at it. I also put paper money in a wallet that I really do not use. One of these days, I may look in it to see how much money has been accumulated in it. So yes, I hide money for myself. I am not the type who really spends money in a hot and heavy manner. However, by having it hidden, it will be out of my sight. Therefore, the temptation to spend it will be taken care of for sure.
I do admit, that it's not something that I really go out of my way and do. However, I do it from time to time. I have an idea where that money might be if I want to look it up for an emergency or whatever. Its there if I need it but I do not acknowledge its existence until I need it. So, in that sense, I hide the money.

Putting it in a wallet that you rarely use is a good idea. Actually kind of hiding it from yourself is a good idea as well. In that way you can still find it, but it's where you want be tempted, whether youre a spender or not. We also don't spend alot.

...Hi megamatt, It's just fun. If you are saving for something that can be a method as well to use. When I was working, just to have some money somewhere, without having to go to the bank, this was my way of keeping a little here and a little there. walking around money that was out of sight. That's what I called it. When I would find it, weeks or months later, it was a pleasant surprise. I like surprises."o) Take good care. Thanks for your reply.

...Hi phoenix8606, That was the sort of nice feeling I would recreate, when I would hide money from myself, and find it later, after I had no further thought about it. Finding money brings a smile to most people's faces. So I had my own version of "make myself happy days" "o). Thanks so much for responding, and take good care.

I used to hide money around the house for emergencies but these days I don't bother as I need every penny I have. I do, however, have a £5 note in a small photo frame on the wall with the words *In case of emergency, break glass* underneath

...Hi there recycledgoth, We are all basically in the same boat. I should have posed my question in the past tense, as right now I don't hide too much money. But when I had a lucrative job, I hide more. It was fun, to find the hidden money after I had forgotten about. I love your note, that is cute. Thanks so much for stopping by, take care.

Hi, artistry. I have never hidden money from myself before. But, it sure would be great to be finder's keeper's of my own money. If anything, I will find loose change like pennies, nickels and dimes. I don't really find any large bills hiding in my home. It would be nice to find some big money though.

..Hi cream, It's really a little game you play with yourself. The trick is to hide the money from yourself, but not such that you completely forget where you put it. But eventually you come acros the money when you have forgotten about it on a short term basis. You find it and you are surprised, it makes you smile. It's your money, you have just hidden it for a while. I used to live with an aunt who had a restaurant, and I would find coins everywhere. Fun house it was.
Thanks for your reply, take care.

Although i never intentionally hide any money from myself, but i am not sure why sometimes when i sort-out my belonging, i came across some paper money. This occasion always happened to me, when i was still single. Now, after married, my husband and i usually keep those extra paper money and coins in a big canister. So, whenever we are in need of those extra money, they can easily be found in the canister. But, we always make a habit, not to let that canister empty, although we want to use money from there. We will always put some money into that canister, when there is some extra money to save.

Well, we do experienced shortage of money before when we tends to buy things and food items based on our favorite. So, at the end of the month, we tends run out of money for other purpose. Only recently, we are in control of the money which we want to spend. We make sure that we don't overspend our money on unnecessary things. That's why we always make sure our canister is not empty...

...Hi again myfb2009, I think this is what hasppens to a lot of us, especially if we forget about our list, and our purpose for making the list. The operative word in your response is in my opinion, control. If we can rememember to control our impulses, we will have more money for the things we need to do, as you have said.
Thanks and take it easy.

...Hi myfb2009, Somehow I seem to think that your angel looks out for you as far as money is concerned. The fact that you make a point of making sure that your cannister always has some money in it and is not completely empty, further makes me think that you and your husband should not have any money problems. I could be wrong, but that's my thought. Thanks so much for your response, take good care.

I tried that once when I was a kid, I hid a 500peso bill in one of the pockets of my jeans. I totally forgot about it, and when I wore the jeans, imagine my surprise when I put my hand in the pocket and I got a 500peso bill!
After that I checked my other jeans, just to make sure that I didn't put any other money in it. and it turns out that was the only one. hehehe.

...Hi there Ingkingderders, Sorry I lost your answer, and took a long time getting back to you. But thanks so much for letting me know what the conversion rate would be. That's still a lot of money here as well "o). I'd like to find a ten dollar bill somewhere in here today, you might just hear me laughing all the way over there where you are. Take it easy.

...Hi Ingkingderders, Surprise, surprise, "o). I don't know how much that is in US dollars, but I am sure that it came in handy when you found it. As I said before that was the reason I did it, because when I found the hidden money, I was a happy duck, besides having the extra money. It was a fun thing to do. Thanks so much for your response, take good care.

I have put money aside but remember always that it's there. Sometimes I put money in my wallet in a hidden pocket and I've forgotten it was there. It's great when I remember and find that $50 or $20.
A friend once gave me some vitamin pills that I used and she had no use for. It had a price tag on the bottle of $20. When I got home I put $20 aside to give to her next time I saw her. I put it under a jar in the kitchen. A few weeks later when I went to get it, it was gone. I searched for it and began to suspect some young friends who often visited to borrow pain killers of which I always keep a supply. One day I needed some myself but there was only one left and I knew I had more than that. They had ample opportunity to pinch stuff as I recalled one of them would keep me busy in the office at the computer while the other went to use the loo, or got a drink of water. They eventually left town and it turned out they owed people money everywhere. Pretty lousy behaviour eh?

..Hi MsTickle, Yes, it is a pleasant surprise to find money that you had completely forgotten about. It makes for a good day. Your young visitors were basically crooks, headed for a bad place. Good that they moved on. Pity the people in the area where they are now. Take care, thanks for the interesting response.

...Hi there charmeyn, Welcome to the homestead, it's a great place to hang out, enjoy. That's the beauty of hiding the money from yourself, forgetting about it and surprise, weeks later, here's money that wasn't in your hand a minute ago. It can be fun, as long as you don't forget forever, where you hid the money. Then somebody else may get the surprise. "o). Thanks for your reply, take care.

I kinda did it back then when I was back home at my parents house. I was not doing it in purpose which is funny because I just find it after a year or so. Fun but sometimes I tell myself I have money around but just can't seem to figure out where exactly did I put it.

...Hi there sublime03, That is one of the perils that can happen, when you hide money from yourself. It becomes forever hidden. I moved a lot and I am not sure to this day, if I ever accounted for all the monies that I hide from myself, and I guess I will never know. It's after the fact, but I guess one should have a map drawn for themselves to be sure the money can be found later on, if you are going to hide it. "o) Thanks for stopping by, take care.

....Hi homeshoppers, I think that your way of doing it works better, because even though it is out of sight, you know where you usually put the money and it can be found. It's the surprise part of it all, that I like. Besides the spending it after you have found the money. Thanks so much for responding, take it easy. Hope you are feeling alright.

No, I don't hide money from myself either. I think that I am pretty responsible with the money that I have. I just put it into my savings account at the bank so that I can earn interest on it. But I can understand why people would hide their own money from themselves because they don't see themselves as being responsible with it.

...Hi there nijolechu, Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but people don't hide ten dollars from themselves because they think they will be irresponsible with ten dollars, my goodness how much irresponsibility can there be with ten dollars for gosh sakes? I would hide the money sometimes, just so I would find it when I may have been short or not, money in savings accounts or investments are long term funds, this is walking around money. If you are thinking someone would hide ten thousand dollars or an amount like that, then that would be a little absurd, suppose they forgot where they hid it, so your premise is a bit off, in my opinion. Interesting that you would have that kind of a perspective on the question. Gives me an idea of your take on things. Thanks for your response, take care.

...Hi joseline0568, That is the great thing about hiding money, because when you find it, it can help out for whatever purpose you need it. Or it is just extra money that you then keep for emergency purposes. It just makes you feel good, when you are looking for something else and lo and behold, there's a five dollar bill staring at you. Thanks so much for stopping by, and take care.

...Hi cloud31, I think the method you use, although it seems unintentional is probably the better way to go. The places that you have left your money are standard, and the chances of you not finding the money again are remote. So good for you, and I am sure when you find the extra money, it is a great surprise. Take care and thanks for responding.

No, I have never hidden anything from myself, but I have very often hidden my money from my family members :D
I don't know why I do this, but it just makes me feel a bit safer. Plus, I like to count my money every now and then to know how much I have (I have it all in cash).

...Hi there martinlink, Welcome to the rancho, it is a nice place to hang out, enjoy. I got into the habit just because I knew how much fun it was to come across money unexpectedly. So I intentionally would put money in out of the way places in the house, and weeks later I would find it and surprise myself, because I would have forgotten about it. Not a lot of money, but single bills, just enough to say, great I have more than I thought I did. You, my dear need, if you don't mind me saying so, to take some of that cash and put it somewhere so you can earn a little interest on it. Not high these days, but better than 0. Count the numbers on the statement when you get it "o). Think about it. Open an account for part of it. Thanks for your response and take care.

hi artistry,
that is common to every body, putting money some where and finding after so many days ,but it is better to have a piggy bank, there you can save the money, you does not know how much money in that piggy bank,so putting coins and note in that, some day if you require money, you can open and utilise it,have a nice day

...Hi yugasini, You make a great point. Putting your money in one place provides a sense of confidence in knowing where your money is. This was not for saving though, it was just so when you found the money you had intentionally hidden, you would have more than you thought you had and it was a nice surprise with which you could treat yourself if you wanted to. Thanks for your response and take good care,

That's exactly why I would hide it from myself, whenever I would find money that I had hidden, it was a very pleasant surprise, and fun, fun, fun. You have to write down where you hid it without identifying what is hidden, if you do it again. Thanks so much for your response. Take it easy.

I have never tried hiding money from myself. My memory is not so good, so if I hide money I might totally forget about it and never get it again. Also, there are lots of people in my house, some trustworthy and some not, so it's not safe to hide money anywhere in the house except my own room. That's why when I have money I deposit it immediately in my bank account.

...Hi angelajoy, As we all get older, most of our memories tend to fail us, especially short term. You are doing the right thing, based on the circumstances you have described. I would do the same thing that you are doing, straight to the bank. I live in a separate apartment, by myself and people have come in to repair things, and some of my things have gone missing. I can't prove they took the things, but they were here before they came in and now they are gone. So some people have sticky fingers. Thanks so much for your thoughts. Take care.

Hi artistry, I don't do that. I don't want to surprise other people with my hidden money under the sofa or in the flower pot. However, I do hide my money from outsiders or strangers by depositing them in a bank. I guess no matter how forgetful I am, at least I know where my money is.

...Hi myzire72, Well, you are the very practical one and you make a good point, at least you know where your money is. But more in the past than now, I would hide money from myself, just so I would be surprised to find that I had more walking around money than I did. Money in the banks is for long term purposes, or for writing checks or paying bills. This little money would be fun to find after you had forgotten about it. It was and can be fun, not related to bill money or such.
Thanks for stopping by and take care.

I dont purposely hide the money around the house. But once in a while, I may put some notes in the bags and forgot about it.. only to be happy and surprise when I found it later on :)
I was afraid if I hide the money I may not remember and ended up losing it :)
But what i do is I put my coins into this jar, just all of my coins by the end of the day and since its just small change I dont miss it much... And every couple of months I open the jar, count it out and deposit it in the bank
It always surprise me how much I could actually collects in coins :)

..Hi there dolphinlady128, Welcome to the ranch, if I haven't said so before, enjoy. That is something that a lot of us do as well. I took a jar to the bank once and I was totally shocked at how much had accumulated in such a short time, just as you say, by dropping in loose change. I have a lot of pennies that I keep looking through, trying to find a very, very old one. Nothing interesting yet.
Thank you for stopping by. Take care.

I immediately smiled a wide grin when this topic came to my eyes. Yeah, I use to do hiding money when I was a kid. I had this thought before that my father would always advise me to it pays saving money. He said when in times of need, you have something to grab and spend for the emergency. I hide money under my pillows, under the television set, and even hiding money in a box that I hide in three trunks that I intentionally make holes and covering it with animal dung to hide the hole.
