I suffer from herniated disc and a slipped disc and for the past three months I've been in some serious pain or discomfort. I dont think people even realize how much of your back is your strength. And I dont think people realize how uncomfortable and painful it is. I use to go to chiropractor 3 xs a week and yeah it worked for awile but all that cracking of the back can that really be any good in the long run? At this point I cant sit for too long, I cant stad for too long and Its painful to drive when I get out the car Im liked hunched over. Its hard for me too go to work so I've been on disabilty and the state thinks Im ok to work..Jerks..Anyone have any remedies or some tips (EX) ecercise tips or anything. I do take pain killers but I rather look for other options and surgery is soo not an option. Thanks!!

I have had some things that I have used in different circumstances, but it is so important to get good medical advice on whatever you might want to do. I prefer to look for a good D.O. instead of M.D. because these doctors have about the same training in medical school but a D.O. studies bones. It is important to work with a doctor that is well informed, maybe even one that is well-known in your area for taking on really hard cases like bad accidents and has a good track record of success. Possibly look at your diet and your habits. Are you picking up very heavy items that you were not made to pick up, etc. Are you eating foods that build bone or that rip bone apart. I found that going to free lectures at my local health food store was very helpful. You may want to look into something called prolotherapy. There is also a similar therapy called (I think) prolozone. While I have not personally used it, I have spoken to doctors that use this therapy and am in the process of reading about it and wanting to interview people who have been through it. I hope this is a little bit of a start on what you may possibly do.

I feel for you. I know the pain that you describe although my spinal problems are a bit different. I use Ibprophen. It is the only thing that works. I used to take 1200 mgs a day but now I don't take it at all unless I feel that the migraine is coming on. The best thing to do is to stretch several times a day, even if they are simple stretches. Be gentle and be sure to do them. You need to keep the muscles around your spine limber and stretching will do this, otherwise they begin to retract. If then you do not stretch them back out, it makes it way harder to move. I am in pain daily. I find that walking really helps. Since I have a dog now, I have to walk and am so pleased about that. Some days I don't want to but I must so I just do and am glad that I did afterward. It is hard to advise exercises when one doesn't know what part of the back is effected. A good physiotherapist could give you some exercises. Often time, you need a General Practitioner to refer you however. I used to do chiropractors too but due to the condition of my spine it can easily do more harm to me than good and frankly, there is nothing anyone can do to change what is going on. I was offered surgery but with no guarantee so I have opted out and manage to cope with the pain. Some days are better than others. I just keep moving. There has been some good information provided here in the previous responses. I wish you well. I also use Epsom Salts in a warm bath and this helps with the inflammation. So soothing. Pick it up at the pharmacy or the pharmacy department at the grocery store. Lastly, for me traction helps a lot. The Chiropractor used to do manual traction and helped relieve the pressure of the compression. I do it to myself now or get a friend to help. There are mechanisms that can be purchased at chiropractors that will aid in traction for yourself. Nice. massages if you can get them will also feel great and help you to relax.
