Superstitions! Do they bother you to?

A good friend of mine private messaged me and let me know that my discussion count was stuck on an... unholy number. I'm sure most of you know what I am talking about, so I won't repeat it here. I ask that you don't either. If your not sure what I am talking about, I will say it's the number of the devil.
I do not like that number at all, though there's been instances in my life where I have seen it before. Of course, I am sure it's that way for everyone. I remember giving change back to a customer on June 6th, of 06... and the change was well you know...
That was spooky! The customer pointed it out to me as well, and it made me kind of cringe. I wonder if they knew that would happen, though I doubted it. Maybe bad luck followed them that day, maybe it followed me and I don't remember it. The thing is, that number is just... spooky.
Some people don't believe in religion, so wouldn't believe in that number. I think some people even believe in what that number stands for, but from what I've understood their interpretation of who the number represents isn't what we as Christians interpret it as.
I have a few questions. The first one is : 1. Are you confused?
2. Do you feel the same way as I do
about that number?
3. Have you ever gotten back
change, or
given that change? ( in the amount
of that unholy number)

I am aware of the number, and I am not superstitious. I will help you out by responding and bumping you off that number, though. I am not superstitious about too many things, but do not feel that I am criticizing those who are. If you are, then you may honestly have a difficult or unlucky day that day or when confronted by that number.

Hi GardenGerty,
The number was not my post count but the amount of discussions I made, so I think it updated when I made the discussion. Thank you for responding though. I am not superstitious about too many things either, but that number I am. Maybe it has something to do with my religious beliefs. I don't remember if I had a bad day that day, I don't think I did, but seeing as it was back in '06 I can't rightly remember!
Have a great day!

Amber, I was guessing it was the number of discussions started. I knew it would not roll over until someone responded. I understand your religious belief about the number, and I can see that you did not want to linger longer.

Thank you so much for bumping me GardenGerty. Though it may be a bit silly to have such superstitions I guess it's something I was taught at a very young age.

I know that there are a lot of people who believe in superstitions and I am not confused at the moment because I know you and I know how you think, and I do not like the unholy number because I think it is a bad number, but I do like the number of God and the number of man,and I have never had to give change back to a customer and I have never had change given back to me in the amount of the unholy number and if I was gonna get that amount of change back I would either tell them to keep some of it ,or quickly by something else to make me get less change back so I would not get the unholy number in the amount of change I get,I love you with all of my heart and soul.

I know what you mean baby, I would donate some of it to the things they have at the registers or tell the cashier to keep the penny's as she may need them later, or something like that. I know how it works to be a cashier and need money in your till so I know that penny's and Quarters as well as dollar's are usually the money needed the most.

I bet that they are needed the most and besides whatever tips the register gets would be great for the store or at least I would guess so since I only ran a cash register like one day at Arby's and I do not remember exactly how that went since that was years ago,I love you with all of my heart and soul.

That 'unholy number' is just that and because of circumstance and nothing else. I am sure that some where in my past I have given or received that number. No, I am not confused. I just go by gut feeling and if it isn't good then I go elsewhere. I usually ignore such things as superstitions unless I am being plagued by alot of weird stuff all at once. Then it seems more pliable.

I can understand the way you think, you don't let superstitions bother you unless something has recurred a few times, and then you think it may be possible that the superstition is true. Deep down I know it's just a psychological thing when it comes to superstitions but I believe them nonethelesser!

Still not getting on Mylot - this will take at lest another hour before it is posted. The bottom line is this. The Jewish people had a thing with numbers. For Example The number 40 represented a very long time - Moses was 40 years wandering around and then we have Jesus who spent 40 days in the wilderness etc.
Now the number seven is considered holy and represents Christ/God. Number 6 is less than seven and it was tripled to show that it is a lot less than seven - in fact, three times less than seven. so the person was very imperfect!
Who did this number represent? As the author of Revelations was in a trance or this was a vision it probably represented the Emperor Nero, who at that time was persecuting the Early Christians by feeding them to the lions etc. The writer spoke of the 7 hills so that we know he was referring to Rome but not to the Roman Catholic Church which was still in its infancy with Peter as its first Pope. BTW the word Pope just means Papa or Daddy. I hope that this helps. Blessings

Hi cynthiann,
I did not know that, I had always just assumed it was the number of the devil, and that was fine enough for me. Sorry it has taken so long for me to respond back, I'm trying to go through to every discussion and respond back to everyone BEFORE I start another one.

Different people from different part of the world have different reasons to believe such things. After all it is all in the mind. I don't see any logic and so I don't believe such things.

I really don't have an superstitions like that... however my husband has this thing that he's against odd numbers other than one. Like if we are doing grocery shopping I can't get three cans of tuna I have to get either 2 or 4. And the car stereo volume has to be on an even number. He's not completely nuts on it but he's bad enough for me to notice.

missybal, I am the same way as your husband is sometimes. I used to have to turn the volume on the t.v. up the number of knotches of my age. I still have to get three of something and no less! I'm not sure why!
I think it stems from stress for me!

Hye Cowgirl! I do know exactly what you mean! I also cringe
when I see that particular number! Many years ago before we
had cell phones (stop laughing you all!) I had a been seeing
someone who would be at my house one minute and go out for
something and disappear! He had a pager (yes, it was that long
ago!) When I would get angry with him for not returning I would
page him with THAT particular number so he would know how angry
I was! Not that it mattered to him, since he already was the
blue eyed devil himself! But, I still hate that number and am
always wary of it! And, yes I do consider it an unholy number!

Oh I think I would know you were very mad very quick if you were to have paged me that number. As it is, pager's aren't that long ago. I remember my sister had one and so did my cousin. My sister's was green, I thought it was so neat and wanted one myself, but I never had one, I got a cellphone when I was 18 though.

It's a good idea to be weary of superstitions and old wives tales, even if they are not true you never know! Have a wonderful day!

Hi SomeCowgirl,
Its just inevitable to people to feel scared if hearing such number...but as a Christian it is indeed mentioned in the Bible particularly in the Book of the Revelations...but the point here is that there is no reason for us to be afraid of the number which happened to be called as the number of the devil...we need not to worry what this number would affect us..we all need to be FAITHFUL and we need not to be confused because it is only through God's grace that we live and it is through doubts to the things we believe that these assumptions emerge...
have a good day and may God bless us all!!!!
