I have a dell computer and it is a mouse with a ball in it. I have downloaded drivers but it just seems to not want to work right. I can't get it to go where I want it to go. I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it but it just keeps messing up. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Do you know how to fix it? Do you know a web site where I can get free driver downloads?

How old is it? If you have had it for some time, it could be something as simple as needing to be cleaned. My over four year old Dell came with an optical mouse so that makes me think that your computer is older than that. Another thing you could try is to buy a new mouse, an optical or laser one, and get the drivers for that if plug and play is not available for it on your computer. The optical and laser mice are much better than the old ball ones.

Hi Stealthy. The computer is only a year or so old. I can't afford a new mouse just yet. But guess that is what I will have to do. I tried cleaning it I think it is just the mouse driver I will uninstall it again and see if that will do better. Thanks. I love the optical mouse too.

Trackball mice tend to get dirty from time to time. Have you cleaned it out? Quite often if the mouse isn't working like you would like it to do. It doesn't nessarly mean that there is something wrong with your software, but rather the trackbal is dirty. Turn off your computer, unplug the mouse, and clean the trackbal with a damp lint-free cloth. Make sure whatever you are using for a mouse pad is also clean too. This should solve the problem and won't cost you anything.

Hi Kay. I hadn't used a track ball mouse in years and forgot that they get dirty inside. One of the responders told me this and it was dirty. Thank God for my friends here on my lot. I think the world of all of you and say thanks for your help. It is working fine now.

A mouse with a ball in it. It seems like it is really old. Mouses are so cheap these days. You can get optical or even laser one for very low price. As you didn't precisely describe the problem I can't help you, but you can try uninstalling the mouse driver from the Device Manager (only if you are using Windows). Best option is to buy the new one. Take care and happy mylotting. P.S. Regarding drivers, go directly to the manufacturers web site (Dell) and try to find your mouse model (even though it is really weird because mouses today are recognized and installed immediately after you had them plugged in).

Hi Fadolf. I can't get the mouse where I want it. It came with this new computer. I will try to move it to one spot and it seems like I have to make a complete circle around where I want to go to get it to the target. I have uninstalled it but it keeps doing the same thing. I did go to dell's web site but couldn't figure out which driver was the right one. Since it didn't have this mouse on their web site. This computer is only a year or so old. The guy that gave it to me gave me the mouse and everything that came with it. Thanks though I will figure it out sooner or later.

Ususually with those ball mouses dirt gets stuck on the 3 wheels inside the mouse which can cause the mouse to jump from place to place. To see if this is the problem unscrew the bottom and take the ball out, and you should see wheel on the side of the ball holder, try moving those and see if the cursor moves smoothly. If it does than clean off the wheels and the ball, If it doesnt than you most likely have a bad mouse.
