This computer won't let me put folders in other folders on the desk top. I move them and try to put them in another folder but this thing keeps telling me I can't do this. Does anyone else have this problem? Can you tell me how to fix it?

I am not facing the same problem, so it may mean that the system itself is going bonkers. It may be due to errors creeping in, or due to malware. There are software which contain nasties, or they could have slipped in via the Internet. Have you tried doing it from Explorer? Have you tried system restore? You may need to repair the OS installation, or do a complete overhaul. There may be also a need to install a good antivirus and Internet security suite.

Hi Rosdimy. Thanks I did try to use explorer but the same thing happens. I just did a system restore and no it didn't help. It keeps coming up with this note saying that I don't have permission to move the file. I don't know never had this problem with XP but I am new to Vista and coming up with all kinds of nuisances. Just driving me nuts. Thanks again.

If the OS was installed under your name then most probably it has been compromised. Someone has sent a program which took over your system. If this is the case vthen you can try doing a scan while in safe mode. Otherwise you will have to reinstall the OS, preferably with a clean format of the partition where the OS resides. My compyter was hijacked too, and I csan understand the feelings.

Are you trying to drag and drop? the fastest way to create folders inside folders is to open the desired folder and create a folder within. You are less prone to errors that way. But, it also depends where and how you are trying to do it too. Computers tend to be a bit tricky in that respect.

Hi Kay. I don't keep a lot of stuff on the desktop. I put everything in folders so I can keep the desktop clean. That was what I was trying to do. But everytime I try it windows says that the folder is open in another program and I can't move it. Thing is what ever it is wasn't open. But I will try and do what you said and see how that works. Thank you so much for your help.

Maybe u try checking if your desktop files is not overloaded. U need to delete ones that are not being used for a long time now. U need to check your folder sharing settings, you might have mistakenly done some settings edit. For the meantime u can save them in your documents , im sure it wont be so hard opening them through the "Document" folder. Check your disk too, if you need to do some deleting. Do some scan disk and defrag and yes dont forget to scan for spywares and viruses. Good luck (^_^)
