Today is my birthday, I'm happy to say. I think it's good to be alive at any age and I think a person never gets too old to celebrate his/her birthday. I bought myself a cake last night at the grocery store. I've been doing this for years even before mother died because she got to where she wasn't able to make me one any more. She used to make me one every year as a child. When she got to where she wasn't able make me a cake any more, we would sometimes get another member of the family to make me one. We're having bible bowl at a local Church Of Christ here in town tonight and I plan to go to that. When the bible bowl is over with, we will be eating, lol and I will be celebrating doubly! Daddy used to tell me after I got grown that I was too old to celebrate my birthday but I don't agree. I think you never get too old to celebrate and we used to go out to eat for my birthday every year. What about you? Do you still celebrate your birthday?

Hah! Your dad probably just did not want to buy a present. I celebrate my birthday every day and twice on the day that actually is my birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I don't always have cake, but I always do something special! Have fun doing your special thing!

I love your attitude. I will have to make that my policy as well. That will help me make up for the days I failed to celebrate and rejoice.

This is a big possibility that he didn't want to have to buy me a gift, knowing him, LOL! He did buy one a lot of times, anyway. This desk that I have my computer on, for example, was a birthday gift from him when I was in high school. Whenever he, mother, and I went out to eat for my birthday dinner, he always had to pay for it. I feel like the reason why he thought I was too old to celebrate was because they didn't celebrate birthdays in his family when he was growing up. He was the oldest of 9 children and they were too poor. I feel like my brother-in-law is the same way. He came from a family of 12 children. That was in the old days when people had large families and they always kept a garden. Kathy.

Happy belated birthday, Lakota! Did you have your picture made with the cake? If you did, you'll have to post it on here so we can see it. It was nice of your children to surprise you like this. Do they do this for you every year? I don't necessarily mean surprize you but do they take you out to eat or whatever? I've had a good day today, although I'm very full, lol! Kathy.

Hi, cyrus, happy birthday to you!
I agree with you indeed. It's never late to celebrate birthday, even if we're not a kid anymore. In fact, I always celebrate my birthday twice a yearBecause I'm a Chinese, I have another birthday as per Chinese lunar calendar. In the first place, my parents and friends thought I was strange. But now they all accept it.
We should thank God that we're alive, so that we can celebrate birthday, dream, enjoy life, and give thanks to people around us. It's wonderful!

Yes, cyrus, as I told I'm a Chinese, we also have Chinese lunar calendar. For examples, Feb. 14, 2010 was it as per solar calendar - which is used all over the world. But as per Chinese lunar calendar, it was also Jan. 1st (called Chinese New Year's Day). So you see, if a person was born on that day, s/he can celebrate her/his birthday on both 2/14 and CNY's Day every year.
Hence, everyday has two dates in different calendars. But even if in China, most of people celebrate one birthday. But I'd like to do it twice if I can. I spent one with my family, and another with my friends.
Unfortunately, my birthday this year is on the same date, like the date I was born. So I have only one birthday this year!

Thank you, OrangJuice! I think it's interesting that you celebrate your birthday twice a year! Can you please explain to me why that is? I hope I'm not coming across as being nosey. If I am, I don't mean to. I'm just interested, that's all. I agree with you that it's never too late to celebrate your birthday. It's better than the alternative. Kathy.

Birthdays are milestones and happy days for we have managed to live to make someone happy ---------well, most of the year LOL
I hope you have a great Birthday !!

Thank you, quita! I had a good day today, although I'm very full from eating so much! I can't believe I'm getting so close to 60, lol! I'm not worried about it, though. I just hope I live to be 100, lol! Mother used to make pecan pies all the time. I never did care for them, myself. I was always kind of a picky eater, anyway. I don't think I'm near as picky as I was when I was younger at least. I like some pies but I've just always liked cakes better. Kathy.

Well I must say happy birthday to you. Today was actually my dogs birthday. He turned 12 years young today. Weve had him since he was just 4 months old..boy time flys.
And no I dont think anyone is ever to old to celebrate their birthday. Its your special day that day and you should get to feel special on that day too. I still celebrate it. I dont have parties like I use to but I still go out and treat myself and I still get presents from family.

Thank you standbymeforever! I've had a good day today! Happy birthday to your dog, too. I don't have parties any more like I used to, either. Some of my family has taken me out to eat for my birthday in the past but not this time or last. Money has just been so tight these days and my sister is not able to get out much any more. I feel like you do. I don't think anybody gets too old to celebrate their birthday. Yes, time does fly by, doesn't it? I turned 58 today and I can't believe I'm getting so close to 60! Kathy.

I think it's great that your grandfather is going to 90 years old this May. I hope he has a great day with you and your family. I hope you have a happy birthday, too, whenever it is and I hope you do get to have some time off. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

Thanks and yes I think going out to dinner and maybe getting just a small gift as well if just fine for a birthay gift for me. As long as I try to get the day off to relax a bit. Like I said I still want to feel special on my day. Im only going on 19 lol.
And dont worry you are not old. My grandfather is going to be 90 this may. I think hes actually excited about it oo because he keeps mentioning it to my mom lol. We usually just drive him up to our place on his birthday and take him out to eat and then get his a small gift like a sweater or some chocolates. I think thats whats he likes best is just spending time with us though.
Happy mylotting!!

I would probably buy myself a pie, but I would have something yummy. I hope you have a really wonderful day. Is Bible Bowl like a quiz bowl over the Bible? Eating something special is always great. Do you know what you will be eating or where? I am not too old to celebrate, and the older I get the more I figure I should celebrate.

Yes, bible bowl is a quiz over the bible. Different congregations of the Church Of Christ get together at one of the congregations on a Thursday Night once a month to challenge each other on the bible. We have judges and the congregation that gets the most correct answers wins. We've had a lot of ties here lately, though. It started out being just for the children but they have adult bible bowl now. I think other religions have it, too. Kathy.

I just ate at bible bowl. We always have food after it's over and they always have a lot, lol! My cake was just a yellow one with white icing and red roses on the top. I like pies, too, but I guess I'm just more into cakes. I love apple pie, though! Kathy.

Many happy returns of the day to you and may you celebrate many more such happy days.
No, I don’t celebrate my birthday anymore coz nobody actually remembers. My dad was never into remembering anything about me, my mom used to but since she’s suffering from Alzheimer’s you can hardly expect her to remember anything, my hubby’s like my dad…never cares about dates and occasions and my son of course is too young to member anything on his own…so I’ve kind of got used to it and frankly speaking I feel bad too to remind everybody that hey! Tomorrow is my birthday so you all better remember LOL…sometimes I feel bad, more so for mum…if she was in her senses, I don’t think she’d ever forget the birthday of her only child.

Thank you, sudiptacallingu! I had a great day today, although I'm very full from eating so much, lol! I think it's sad that your daddy never was into remembering anything about you. Bless your heart! Mother used to ask me what I wanted for my birthday, where I wanted to eat out, etc. I know about alzheimer's, though, because she had it. It's rough, isn't it? After she got it, I continued to celebrate with other family members or just go out by myself, buy my own cake, or whatever. Kathy.

I still celebrate my bday, which will be coming up in a couple of weeks, so I already have some plans, this year me and my boyfriend are going to see a movie that comes out on my bday. I have a friend who has a birthday two days before mine, and we will celebrate both of ours the day in between, although we haven't decided what we will do this year yet we have contemplated going out and getting a few drinks. My mother also does a few things for my bday, and me and my brothers and sisters always have a party for my mother every year. I do not believe you are ever too old to celebrate your bday. Your right it is good to be alive at any age, so why not celebrate your life, every year older you get is just another reason to celebrate the fact that you are still alive and another year to be happy you have seen.

Happy birthday early! I had a good day today. I don't drink or go to the bars or anything. I do things like buying myself a cake, buying myself a gift, or taking myself out to eat. Sometimes some of my family will take me out to eat. One of my sisters, however, is not in very good health any more and she doesn't get out very much. In that case, I just have to amuse myself in some way. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

You're the first mylotter who has admitted to not celebrating your birthday any more. Come on! Lighten up! Like one mylotter said, it's good to be alive so you can celebrate your birthday. It's better than the alternative. I know we have to think about our money these days, though, and it does take money. Kathy.
