My partner and I am getting married on the 1st May and we will be wearing black and purple. I have always worn black, it's timeless and classic and suits me. One of fashions most classic icons is "the little black dress"

It is a little different here. Usually we will tend to wear the bright color clothes when we attend to the wedding ceremony. The black color is not the major color in wedding. If we attend to other places, then any colors will be fine. Perhaps black clothes looks formal, elegant and therefore it is a popular color for the clothes. I love China

Black is neutral. I can't think of anyone who doesn't look good in black (as long as they are alive). LOL I don't believe in colours with meanings. When I got married for example, I did not wear a white dress, I wore a red one (I am not Asian, or of a background where red dresses are common, I just wore what I wanted).

Black will always be the backbone color of fashion for several reasons. It always looks elegant, we all think we look thinner in black, as a basic it works with everything, most people look good in black. Every year the "new" color comes out, and every year it generally fails. A color that is too bright is also too noticable, meaning you can't wear it too often and also looks dated quickly. Plus those new colors don't always compliment our complexions. Back to "generally failing", for the last 6 years the fashion industry has been pushing browns and I rarely see anyone wearing that color. It is a hard color to coorinate with other colors, so we end up going back to black. As to black at weddings - the "rules" have changed. I think they started relaxing in the late 70's. You were never to wear black to a wedding as it was supposed to mean bad luck. I have some of the ugliest colored brides maid dresses in history which were never worn again. Now, to have a black dress as a brides maid means I will be able to get some use out of the money I had to spend. And again, black always looks elegant and has become more than acceptable, but preferred for practical reasons.
