What do you think about the killer whale incident at Sea World yesterday?

I just heard on the news this morning that a woman trainer was grabbed and killed by a killer whale during a show at Sea world yesterday. This is certainly not the first time a killer whale has attacked a trainer...it also happened back in 2006, where he was hospitalized-but did survive. So my question for you is what do you think should happen to that whale? Should they release these animals in the wild? Some people think the whale should be put down-I am shocked that this would even be considered-I mean it's a wild animal put in a cage. I think they should release them if they are able to be (not injured or unable to survive)

Human beings have countless ways to amuse themselves. It is therefore cruel to trap these innocent creatures and make them do stunts for our pleasure. There should be a rule to let free all those animals trapped and caged and given them their natural habitat.

It's great for research and education but they really shouldn't keep them that long-this whale has been there since the 80's..I'm wondering if it's not Shamu? I recently went to Mote marine (which is a local aquarium) and they had a shark tank where you could go up, hold onto rails and look down...I felt horrible for those sharks-I mean there were probably 8 of them in a 20 foot tank.

Putting these animals as a theme park attraction is just asking for trouble to begin with. This incident just shows that even the best trained people could be in danger of an an attack. Honestly, I am really surprised that there were not more incidents to this nature.
I would not blame the whale. I mean, imagine if you were put in a cage and taken away from your natural environment. To be watched for the entertainment of a bunch of people. After a while, I would get irritated. Chances are that someday, if I was in that situation and I was taken away from others of my kind, I would snap as well. As I said, I am really surprised that incidents like this are not more common than they are.

Thanks for your response..I agree! You know what I can't figure out is where are all the animal rights organizations fighting for their freedom? I really think it's sad-unless they're injured and could die in the wild-to keep them prisoner...and I agree-who in their right mind can blame the whale? It's only relying on instinct.

I didn't hear this, myself. However, I hardly ever watch or listen to the news. This is awful, though! I don't really know what to think. I guess the best thing to do would be to release it in the wild. I had a chance to go to Sea World one time. I was going to go with a tour group but it had to be cancelled because we couldn't get up enouhg people to go. We were also going to go to Disneyworld and Cypress Gardens. Kathy.

I've tried to go to Disneyworld three times but everytime it had to be cancelled because we couldn't get up enough people. I'm not that worried about it any more because now I can't afford to travel. I enjoyed it when I did travel, though. Maybe someday I will get to go. You never know. Kathy.

Awww man, that's a shame. Maybe because it was expensive..I know I was just checking disney ticket prices and they're like $80! Thank God I did the disney "give a day-get a day" I volunteered to get a free ticket to Disney. I was having a bit of sticker shock because the last time I went they were $45 or something. I've never been to sea world myself
