Hey Raniaa. If you may clearly state what you have in your thoughts, it would have been better. That way, we can surely talk things out and share ideas freely and comprehensibly.

Hi uniqueorn,
If I'm with casual friends, I won't let them have an inkling of what's going on inside me - smile & chat as per normal =) Only with family can I trust to reveal my true state of mind =) Not that I wish to fake anything but I'm a rather private person so I can only share freely & truly with people I really trust, especially when I'm troubled.

Hi uniqueorn,
From what you shared, you do not find it easy to open to your family and you are also superficial when it comes to friends - I do hope you have an outlet to express your innermost thoughts? You do have very close friends whom you can share more in-depth?

That's great Jes2ie! I sincerely think that you are one of those rare people who can easily open up problems to family over friends. In my case, I am the opposite. But, I'm secretive that only the superficial of my problems do my friends know about it. They should not know the real deal. They will never know.

I always try to keep a smile on my face, even when inside I am crying. A smile can lift the spirits of friends and family and, with others smiling and happy then you can be happy too

It's a chain reaction, you know. Once we take the lead of smiling even though it hurts, others will precisely smile more than you thought them to be. What surprises you most is when the magic of smile healing the wounds you keep inside activate. I love the feeling!

I used to work at a popular Spa and my boss was a rather large German woman who scared the hell out of me because she had a thick German accent and used to talk to me in a demeaning way when she thought I didn't understand her. She used to say in a gruff voice,"pay attention!" All the time she talked like that, I couldn't get the image of Hitler out of my mind; and her voice truly scared the hell outta me. So, every time she would walk down the hallway, I would have a sh*t eating grin on my face so she would think I liked her and leave me alone. She would say,"O, what a beautiful smile!"

Oh well! Here's a concrete example of the magic of smile can do. But, did you manage to endure doing this all throughout your work? I mean, it's really gonna be a hard one. :)

I think that keeping a smile is a universal doing. In a general sense, this applies to each of us. Unfortunately, no everyone can endure doing this matter.

Hi, uniqueorn. I do this sometimes when I don't want a person to see my pain and anxiety. When deep down, I am hurting like ever. I don't like faking my smile, but in certain cases, I will have to, so that others will not have to see my bad mood. And there are times that I will not fake my smile at all. I will show people just how bad I am feeling with a frown on my face.

Ei cream. I feel like doing the same when I have to hide a feeling inside. Most especially when I don't want to break the happy mood of my friends. What hurts more is when, you have to force a smile when you see all your friends happy and one of them is the reason of the pain you hide inside.

I think its an infectious circle. If you smile, its likely that at least some of the people around will smile too... which, in turn cheers you up so you'll still be smiling when you catch the eye of the next person and so it spreads - it has a knock on effect and a bounce-back

I believe in this idea too. I am the kind of person in a group who stays alive the liveliness and happiness whatever may happen. In result of motivating them to be happy, I am delighted to see my friends smiling with me as the primary reason for doing so.

i admit that i do fake smiles a lot. when i meet people while walking i smile at them as a sign of courtesy then when they pass me by my smile just drops and you can completely see no emotion from my face. sounds bad but thinking about it now, i'll try to smile and actually mean it. ^^

Yes I do. It became one of my habbits to smile when ever there is a stressed enviroment. It helps 'breaking the ice' and make it a lot easier for other people to start talking.
I also smile (but I don't know if it's fake...) when I'm serving people or being having a service by someone else. I feel it help me, and the person in front of me with the communication between us.

I used to be like you. Smiling, I believe, influences the atmosphere to radiate even more. But there are times really when I just can't get the mood of smiling especially when I am tired and hopeless. It's as if I need another person to "re-give" that smile to me. These days, I cannot just wear a smile when I work. I only smile when I go with friends.
But now, I'm aiming to wear a smile again from time to time.

when we meet people with closeness we smile perfectly well. Others we just know and we may get close later we may tender the fake smile and also with the people whom we do not like we tender the fake smile. It happens in my life.

Have a smile always, even it's a fake one. Because gloomy face is an infectious decease. You should not come out of your house if you cannot have a smile on your face on a particular day. Stay back at home. Because you have no right to spread deceases.
Keep smiling that is the basic qualification you need to come out of your house and show your face to the world.

I am guilty of this from time to time. I do more around my family because I don't want to worry them if they catch a glimpse of my real emotions on the day. Faking smiles can be difficult to keep up, particularly over a long period of time. I think in the end the pretence can actually get on top of you too. I think if you compare a fake smile to a rela smile you can actually see it in the eyes. I mean if a smile is real it will radiate from the eyes too. Does that make any sense?

Yes. I believe that the sincerity of a smile can easily detected. Have you ever heard of a 'mother's instinct'? Mothers can easily detect whether their children are wearing fake smiles or not. You cannot easily escape from your mother's eyes. That's why whenever I attempt to fake a smile, I'd rather hide and cry.
Faking a smile before your friends and office workers could not be easily detected. Your lifetime partners has the ability to easily know also the sincerity of your smile or not.
