How many computers do you have in your home?

What OEM are you using on your computer? I am using Vista. But my husbands computer has XP on it. Did you know that Vista unlike XP you can copy to disk? I want to start a computer repair business out of our home cause I am tech savvy. I have fixed my own computer since I got my first one in 2thousand. And love working on them. I have had windows 2000 and XP and prefer XP over the earlier OEM. I jsut got vista. And want to find out more about it. So I look on the web and ask questions on here. Would you start your own business out of your home? Would you fix computers if you had the chance? How many computers do you own?

I have two computers, one desktop and the other laptop, both of which have XP ultimate on them.I have tried Windows7,but I do change it to XP because of its compatibility are defective. As a university student,I need to learn many softwares. While Windows7 can`t identify some of them ideally as XP does. Also my laptop is a little dismoded,it can`t support W7 well.I prefer to choose XP rather than buy a new one.Although the “touch screen" that W7 supports attracts me,I have no choices but to go with XP before I have enough money to buy such a great computer that W7`"touch screen" requires, and I`m sure it will be a long way to go,and a long time to wait. Well I must accept that I also believe Windows7 wil does better and dominates in the future.

Hi Chineselion and welcome to my lot. I love the way XP does. But when I got it I didn't know much about it either. I will learn this vista. One of the reasons I want to start my business is cause I know I would be able to afford a laptop too. And I know I am good at what I do. Not bragging just a fact. I like working on computers. I hope you get your laptop sooner then later. Good luck!

Well if you count lap tops and desk tops we have 6 in our house. Each member of the family has their own computer and my husband also has a lap top that he takes back and forth to work with him. We technically don't own it though if he ever quits the company or gets fired or layed off he will have to give it back. But right now with that lap top we have 6. A couple of them are really old though.

I'm not really sure, my husband is a systems analyst so he keeps them going. I don't use the old ones so I don't know what he is using on those. The older ones are used by our 6 and 12 year old sons. My daughter has a newer one, and my husband and I have newer ones.

Hi Lady. It is a good thing to teach your children the computer who knows the way the world is going it may be ran by computers some day. My nephew was 8 when he started working with a computer and that inspired me so much to see this young boy doing what I hadn't a clue about at the time. How old is your daughter?

Hi Lady. I do love working on computers and one day have my own shop so I will have an abundance of them. I like fixing things that others don't really want to fool with. Some people think they are hard to work on but I haven't had a problem working on my own computers. I hope and pray your husband never loses his job. Do the old ones have XP on them? Or what is the OEM system they use?

You can have many desktops..if you have opened many windows already and want to work in a clean desktop without closing the other windows you have opened, you can turn the desktop like a cube, a cylinder, or even like a sphere as you open a new desktop..you can draw a fire on the desktop...you can have raindrop effect..you can stretch you windows like rubber..hmm..it would be best if you are going watch some videos from the youtube..just type in the keyword "ubuntu"..100% YOU'LL LIKE THIS..

I own a desktop and a laptop and both run on Vista. I preferred XP, when I first got Vista, but I'm getting use to Vista and I really haven't had any problems, so now I wouldn't go back. I might go foward to 7, but not anytime soon. As for starting your own business, you got one hurdle covered, you like what you do? Now do you want to deal with the business plan, marketing, sales, customer service, etc. of a business? I do have a home business I started last year. I scan photos, slides, negatives, and film and digitize these onto CDs for customers. I also build slideshows and burn these on to DVDs, video CDs, etc. or put the show on the individuals website, etc.. I haven't done a lot of marketing, but the business is slowly growing through referrals, primarily. I love building the shows and I love having my own business.

Hi M1st1e. I have only had vista a week or so now and it is hard to get used to. I will keep it and learn how to use it. But I think I will land back up with XP on here. So far I don't really care for vista.

Hello free_man. I would like to suggest you to increase a bit your skill before start a computer repair business. If I go in a computers service shop and the people there talk to me about OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), referring to the OS (operative system), I will run away from the shop, and I will suggest all the people I know to keep away from that shop, because the workers there don't know what they are talking about. About the sentence "vista unlike xp can copy to disk"... is not so much clear what do you mean... can you explain it?

Well, this is something very interesting becoz. At my home, we have three desktop for each sisters and two laptops. We use it individually and different choice of O is installed. I love linux and my bro XP. These days computers are very common. And you can see this in each house. I can even fix my computer if there is any problem. I have owned one of my own. Rest is owned by my father.

Hi Airakumar. It is good thing to know how to fix your own computer that way it don't cost as much if it needs to be fixed. I want to fix them for a living. I taught myself how to do what I know on these computers. I don't like vista as much as xp.

Ok about your vista OS i suggest change it to win7, because vista is the worst OS microsoft has ever made, believe me anyway you can check it on the web, vista vs. windows7. As a computer technician I only work at home waiting for some clients call, most of my clients are owning an internet shop and some are only recommend to me by friend, if you really love fixing computers then go for it start your own business. I have two computers now, a laptop which I always bring especially when repairing computer outside, its much easy to troubleshoot computer problem if you have a laptop and it saves you a lot of time, and also I have my desktop which i use if i want to relax and play games, watching dvd's, editing videos pictures. I wish you all the best and goodluck . :D

Hi M1Kong and welcome to my lot. I do love fixing them. I enjoy the figuring out what is wrong with them and then making them run good. I will keep vista and make it run the way I like it to run through the registry. I don't want to try out a new OS until I get this one running smoothly. Thanks for the encouragement. We have two computers so I can look up what I need to do to fix this or that if one breaks down. I have always wanted a laptop but I just can't afford that right now.

Hi Mike. I love fixing them it is a challenge to figure out what to do to fix something on them. The funny thing is when I got my first computer I didn't even know how to turn it on.....LOL I had to call the company to find that out. But now I love working on them and don't worrry about a thing when I get one that don't work.

We have two computers at home. One desktop and one laptop who both have Windows 7 ultimate on them. I am not really good with fixing computers and tinkering with them so my brother is the left with the job if maintaining my laptop and the main one. I think it is a great idea to have my own computer shop and have either my brother or my boyfriend as technicians just so I have someone to look after those things.

I probably wouldn't run a computer business out of my home. I think the place is too small for that. I live in a so-called one-bedroom apartment, and the way its designed there is barely enough room for Myself, George, and our two cats much less what would be required for a home-based business. Right now I've got one active laptop, and another in a case its a back-up should something happen. But, that's it. I don't need much more then that.

Hi Kay. I have been working on my own computers for years. And I love doing it. I thank God we have this house we are living in a garage and another home on our property so I don't have to worry about space. I don't think I would want to run a business out of here if I didn't have the room to store things in the other buildings. We have two computers that are running and I have one that I am working on. It needs a new hard drive. But we don't have the money to get another one just yet. Will though. One computer is my husbands and one is my computer, I want to fix the other one for a back up.

Hi there free_man... We have three computers in our household as of now... One desktop and two laptops... The desktop with XP installed in it is shared by us (me, my younger sister, and my younger brother...) One laptop with Windows7 installed in it is used by my older brother and the other laptop with Vista installed in it is used by my auntie... It is really funny having different OS. xD

Hi Skbrence. I like XP I am not sure what I think of vista yet. I was given a computer a week or so back that has vista on it and it isn't anything like XP. We have two computers one is my husbands which has XP on it. The other is mine with vista on it. Boy this one with vista is sometimes a real pain in my bottom. But soon I will know it like I do XP.

we have three computers at home. bout software, I have experience with XP, Vista and and windows seven. actually i enjoy windows seven, it's great. but my husband said there's something not compatible with my PC. I dunno which part is it. and all computers are maintained by my husband. so he installed same programs on all of them. Frankly I don't know much about computer and its software and hardware. so thank God cos I have a husband who really understands bout computer much. then we don't need to meet another technician if we have problem with our computers.

Hi Humairaku. I started learning how to fix my own computer cause I couldn't afford to take it to someone else. That is how I learned how to fix them and I love doing it. I have changed almost every component in one of my computers. I find it challenging. The mother board is the only thing that I haven't replaced in a computer but wouldn't think twice about doing it. I am one of those people that if I can read about it I can figure it out. I love working on computers. That is why I am thinking about opening up a computer repair shop from our home.
