I just watched the gold medal game for Womens hockey competition. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fast face, rough, good scoring, fast skating, nice passing, basically as good as Men's hockey. There should be a WNHL or something.

i agree, it was a very exciting game and Canada won!! (YAY!!) but you are right, i think that women can play hockey just as well as men and i wonder if a pro womens league would take off? i do know that they have championships between the women's leagues on a world wide scale, though.

Women's hockey is very exciting...when it is Canada vs USA playing. Those two teams truly are the only true dominant teams, while all other teams are atleast 10 steps behind.
It certainly has a lot to do if it wants to be a truly competitive competition though.
Granted yes, Canada vs USA was very exciting. And coming home with a gold medal was even better!!!

The game was okay, but it's not much of a competition when you only have 2 legit teams. Are the blow out games good to watch? Maybe the first couple times, but a constant diet of 18-0 scores would soon get boring.
One can argue that in the 1920s and 30s, such lopsided scores were commonplace in men's hockey with Canada winning most of the games. It forced the other teams to get better and now any of 5 or 6 teams have a chance of winning gold. But those were simpler times and people were willing to wait for parity, the question is nowadays, do we have the patience to wait?

It was an exciting game between the US and Canada. My only concern is that after these two superpowers (in hockey, at least), the next level is way, way down. I hope that the other countries improve their women's hockey program so they could catch up. When they do, then we could realize a market for a pro-women's league.
A lot of interest still needs to be generated though.
