Are you a piano player? Did you learn to play when you were younger, or are you a recent tickler of the ivories? Have you kept up with playing and still enjoy playing the piano? Anyone else in the family play the piano or any other instruments? Share your musical stories.

After two years of lessons, which I asked for, it was clear I had no talent for the instrument, so my mother stopped wasting her money. I wish I could play, but my fingers get tied up in knots.

..Hi 6precious102, I never took piano lessons. My two cousins did and they play well, one better than the other. I used to play the trumpet in elementary school. Other than that I can write songs having a pianist put my singing to the notes. We all have different talents, you as well. I love most forms of music, piano music is very beautiful. Thanks for your response, take good care.

My father was a child protege on Piano and a Steinway graced our home in my formative years. However, although I have an immense appreciation for music, I have flunked guitar and not did so hot in viola either.

....Hi there coffegurl, Welcome to the ranch, enjoy. I would think that the genes are definitely there, and that you have just not found an instrument to your liking
as yet. When you do, you will excel in my opinion. You didn't mention the violin, that is a beautiful sounding instrument, any leaning toward the violin? I don't play any instument at this time, though I love music, almost all kinds. Thanks so much for your response, take care.

...Hi there lacusGavril, Welcome to the ranch, it is a great place to have fun and meet nice people. That is neat that you have started to take piano lessons, but not so great that you have a conflict with your job training. You will probably need to wait for a while, after you get finished with the training and the time needed to implement your training, before you can go back to your lessons. But do not give up, since you have started already, you are ahead of the game.
Try to resume your lessons as soon as you can. Take it easy and thanks.

My mom used to work as a house cleaner. She worked many years in big houses, mansion like. Seh one day came to me with a propasition. One of her clients had an old piano that she was selling and she offered it to my moim for just 2 months of work. I thought it was great! When she came home with that piano, it was beautiful. It is not a grand master piano, it is a rather small one, but majestic, none the less. I came to brasil and it was quite a hassel to bring it here, but I'm very glad we did. It sits in the living room, right next to my bedroom. I can't really play, I can sound out a few tunes here and there, but that's mostley it. I always fiddle around with it anytime I pass by. I have loads of sheet music, though I can't read any of it. A piano is one of the greatest inventions ever, it's sound is so smoothe and calm and I love hearing any piano music. Still, I wish I could play.. Maybe one day I'll take some lessons.

...Hi there universe2o6, That is a great story. I am sure you were thrilled when the piano arrived, like a big birthday present. Your mom was very thoughtful. You will play as you want to oneday, my thought is that you visualize yourself playing. Believe that you will be able to do it. The scales are kind of easy, from there you will be playing chopsticks and Mary had a litle lamb. It is a beautiful instrument, I can't play, but I write songs and the pianist puts the music to the sound that I sing. Weird. But it works. Go and find a patient teacher, you will be playing soon. Thanks for the interesting response. Take care.

...Hi there aditya149, the piano is a beautiful instrument to be able to play and to listen too.I love piano music. I would think you would need to take at least a year of lessons to learn the basics and then another year to perfect your skill in playing. The guitar is another lovely sounding musical instrument. Good luck with your lessons. I am certain you will be happy with the outcome of your classes. Take care and thanks.

I've been playing piano on and off for about twenty years. Now, I'm back on it again. This time I've been with it for almost two years, and I think the reason I've been with this long is that I'm playing offeratory for church. I'm a self-taught musician. When I was learning the basics, I would go to our local music store and buy the John Thompson books on how to play the piano. I do have a little bit of musical talent in my family. My grandfather used to have his own country band, a long time ago. I have a picture of him and a few other relatives playing music above my piano.
And when I got back with piano two years ago, I got inspired. My neighbor has a realative that plays piano. And she was playing this beautiful grand piano at a party and, at that time, I was kinda miffed, because, I was so rusty on that thing that I really couldn't play it very well. So, I decided to relearn it and keep playing it this time around. Before, I got my Kawai CE200 piano, I was going to church to play their acoustic upright Wurlitzer and the music director caught me and asked me to play offeratory and I've been keeping up with the instrument since then.

..Hi there Steinway, Welcome to the ranch, it's really a neat place to make new friends and have fun learning new things and chatting. Your name reflects your love. "o) First of all you've got the genes, the natural talent is there. fantastic discipline to teach yourself, to the point of playing at church. How great is that?
So glad the church music director caught you playing, that job kept you involved with the instrument and helped to keep you interested. Great motivation. Enjoyed your story so much, keep up the good work. Piano music is very beautiful. Thanks for your response.
