Guys I'm not sure if this sounds normal, but I just found it very promising and enticing to memorize this sea voyage novel by Henry Melville. It's one of my favorite novels and so I always put in my mind to at least be familiar with everything inside this novel. Haha.
Do you have that calling, too?

Wow, that is quite a goal. Surely you don't mean to memorize every word though? I bought a copy of the book last year and I intend to read it sometime...maybe when I retire...but I doubt if I will remember much of it beyond the basic plot when I'm finished. It sounds like you've already read it a few times?

Learn a whole novel? No, I definitely do not have the urge to do that. I'm always in awe of people, like actors, who can learn reams and reams of lines. I was put off learning by rote when I was at school. I was forced to learn the hymn O Jesus I Have Promised as punishment for talking in class and then had to recite it to everyone. It was humiliating! I learnt long quotes from Shakespeare for my A-levels and my university degree but, apart from that, I've never felt the urge to learn anything else. Good luck to you, though. I believe learning texts off by heart is very good training for the brain. So maybe I ought to try it!
