Is Sachin the greatest?

It is wrong to compare GOD OF CRICKET and Kangaroos captain hello friend u saying ricky point is near sachin's records how u evaluate this...On what basis u pointed out. In Test Matches there is long gap between them ricky made only 39 test century whereas sachin had made 47 in test so there is difference of 8 centuries which i think is huge...and it looks funny if i compare there records in ODI matches there is difference of 17 centuries and might u think that he is play more odi matches then ricky pointing look at there average which reveal everything it is very tough to maintain a good average by playing more and more games....Hope i'm able to justify my point...."NEVER EVER COMPARE SACHIN TO ANY OTHER PLAYER HE IS GREAT"...........

i think sachin is the greatest player to me . but i do agree with you ponting has played a les number of games than sachin . but when taking into considerations the amount of runs he has scored in both one days and tests it hard to think about any other player . we should not forget that sachin has won us many games single handedly especialy in the 1998-1999 . i think sachin is the greatest player .

When it comes Sachin as a great player ever in cricketing history I tend to think otherwise. Sachin is no doubt a great est batsmen of all time, but he could not let the team achieve something big in his stint as a player till date. Both ODI world cup and T20 was won by India when Sachin was not in the team. So he might have so many records but still he could not give his team a great win in world cups.

you got your view and i got mines.no problem.as per me anyone who shuffles a lot is not considered a good player like simon katich or ricky ponting.too easy to get out. and i always considered ponting's pull shot as the funniest.anyway talking about numbers,tendulkar might have been playing for 20 years but he started opening his innings in 1994 which is 5 years after he made his debut.so pretty much 15 to 16 years.besides unlike ponting tendulkar had some nasty injury problems like the elbow thingy which almost ended his career.take those things into account and you might find that the total number of years will be same and tendulkar is leading ponting all the way.

I might have agreed if you had said Sachin is not greatest but one of the greatest players. But you mentioned that Ponting is better than Sachin and for that you provide number of years as a yardstick. That is where I disagree with you. First you say that Sachin is only great in terms of records and to point out Ponting better than Sachin you use the same RECORDS and number of years! You contradict yourself! As far as Sachin taking 20 years, he started at the age of 16! Do you think anyone can face Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram at the age of 16? There are very few such players. Do you know how he hit Abdul Qadir for SIXES when he was just 16? Abdul Qadir was a great Pakistan Legspinner at that time. It is not about records that makes Sachin great. It is that SOMETHING SPECIAL that cannot be explained, cannot be measured, that is what makes him great. Why did Don Bradman say 'I got struck by his technique and simplicity. Now, I never saw myself play but I felt this guy plays like me!' Don't measure anyone by records. Just tell me, HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A PLAYER FOR WHO THE WHOLE NATION REJOICES IF HE CREATES A RECORD OR SCORES A CENTURY? Do you know why Tendulkar is great? He GIVES JOY to billions. He takes on the CHALLENGE and he takes on the toughest opponents and tries to DISMANTLE them when all others are failing. Ponting is a great batsman there is no doubt but I doubt whether he creates the same atmosphere that Tendulkar does with his play. Even Ian Chapel said that, Sachin surpasses both Lara and Ponting in a recent article after the 175 Innings against Australia and complimented Tendulkar for his mental strength and single minded focus which is difficult to have after such a long career and at that age. And I must say that you didn't hurt my sentiments. Because I am not sentimental. I am not a blind fan too. First of all I am not a fan. I don't think you need to be a fan to say what I said about Sachin. Happy Mylotting!

sachin is the greatest no dougt, dont compare the years sachin and ponting played. when you look at the matches it is almost same, accept ponting may have reached the milestone a littile earlier than sachin. But in the past cricket was slow, long boundaries, less powerplay. so sachin scored the records even when he was having those limitations. Sachin is the person who record of having most no: of records
