knee locked up

How do you soothe an aching knee that locked up? Do you know of any reasons why a knee would lock up?

What is a knee "lock up"? I've had lots of knee injuries, but I'm not sure what you're talking about.

it's where your knee just stops working and won't move. I've had to use my hands to physically move my leg and it is excruciatingly painful

Sounds like extreme ligament or cartilage damage. If you can't move your leg on its own, you're probably gonna need surgery....
