Hello friends
Now a days lots of people are facing overweight problems and desperately trying to shed that excess weight. The reason I think for this over weight is:
1. Eating exess calory rich food items like ice creams, pastries, cakes, deep fried items and biscuits
2. Lack of physical exercise
3. Irregular food habits
Any other reasons are there? Please share with me

Hi i wonder how people gain weights, all those you mentioned here, ice creams, cakes, pastries i eat them like anything. But my weight never increase, i am still 38kgs for past 2 years. I am struggling to gain to normal weight. Basically i think sometimes its due to hereditary. And lack of exercise for obesity too

Hi besthope
I envy you because you are not gaining weight inspite of eating lots of all the above mentioned items. I really wonder. If you want to gain weight, take dry fried sesame seeds pounded with jaggery and cardoman seeds and add dry fruits to it and make small balls out of it and eat 2 balls the size of a medium lime, every day and eat ripe banana fruit after lunch and after diner. Definitely you will gain weight

Hi dear,
I do agree with you. Eating junk food regularly and sitting infront of television or computer may store all the fats in our body. Lack of exercise is another problem. People start to think about an exercise when they face problem due to extra fat. Sometimes hormone is the culprit of gaining weight. It is good to find out the exact problem so that the solution will be easier.

Hi sree
After a long time I am seeing you in mylot. Happy my dear.
More than the eating habits and idling in front of the TV or PC, I think the main reason for putting extra weight is the harmonal changes or thyroid problems. Just like that people will put on weight because of those problems. Yes. I do agree that it is good to find out the exact cause of the problem and treat it in the initial stage itself to avoid further health complications

A lot of the food we eat today is highly processed and full of unhealthy additives.
I think a lot of people have a problem with portion sizes, too. They eat way too much in one sitting.
Some people also have problems such as emotional eating. I had that problem for a while and put on about 18 lbs. I've since lost about 5, due to eating better, dealing with my emotions better, and exercising more.

Hi,bwaybaby
I fully agree with you. Actually more than original eating out of hunger, this emotional eating does more harm than good. Ofcourse, I too out of tension, or anger or losing myself in some thoughts simply empty packets and packets of chips of biscuits without my knowledge, which ,leads into excess weight. I am thinking of starting some exercises soon to curb this menace

Hi Vathsala, All the reasons said by you are absolutely right. Added to it there is too much stress and strain right from childhood. People prefer all modern gadgets for their daily chores, watch a lot of tv, sit in front of the computer for hours together. They are more of couch potatoes and less active when at home. Even the shortest distance is covered either by a two wheeler or car. Nobody prefers to walk. The modern technologies are misused which results in extra pounds and obesity.
Happy mylotting.

Hi bewitched
Though modern gadgets are very useful and make our work easy and quick, it is equally making us to become lazy and over weighted too. Indeed I too became a couch potato now a days increasing my weight lol.

hie vathsala, over weight or obesity is a growing problem nowadays. modern days has done away with lots of walking to and fro from work, less cycling and cooked food at home. the nature of our work is sitting at desks for office workers with computers where we relate to each other with e mails, telephones and teleconferencing etc. we sit in our cubicles and get our work done. we only get up to go to fix our drinks ( if there is one ) or to the washrooms, besides going out for a quick fast lunch and its back at our desk or cubicle. transport is by bus, rails and own vehicles. there is little cycling as the nature of developement in the cities is no more conducive to cycling and walking. after work, we eat out and there is a reduction in home cooked food. the outside hawkers' fast food 'is laden with alot of fats and calories like nasi lemak, fried rice and noodles and western fast food restaurants. we lack exercise after a hard day's work and come back home sitting in front of tv ( we say we are oh so tired) and munching titbits again for some. moreover our brain takes 20 minutes to register whether we are full or not, thus there is a lapse in time and we overeat again. in other words, we must learn to chew out food more times so that to let the brain time to response. or when we feel 80% full , we stop eating. we have to be discerning on the type of food we take, thus taking more fibre food like vegetables make us full faster. take fruits before meals is one of the ways. at the end of the day, its our self discipline where food like other things in life are concern. we make our choices and decision though obesity tends to run in families. still eating right from young does go a long way to help us all not to put on unneccessary weight which i call 'excess baggage'. think fit and work out 'ideal' normal weight based on height, give and take 10%.

Hi gracefuldove
I totally agree with you friend. In these modern days of life people do not have that much of physical activities and also they do not have time for doing exercises. Besides, for every household work, electrical and electronic gadgets are available in the market. So every thing adds for the increase of obesity including fast food.

hi vathsala30,
LOL. ice cream? hell yeah! I ate lots of those last Christmas and now I feel bad for I have gained a lot of weight. Of course, soft drinks and sodas can be a great factor. As well as sweets like chocolates and candies and some fatty foods.

Hi danitykane
Even I eat icecream and chocolates often and keep putting more weight lol. But what to do. Unable to control my temptation lol. If we eat once in a while, then it is ok. But daily we should not take ice creams and soft drinks coz soft drinks contains sugar which directly merges with blood and thus helps in increasing our blood sugar levels and also helps in weight gaining.

Hi deeps
First of all I would like to comment on your avatar. It is simply beautiful and lovely. I strongly feel like playing with that child
Overweight problem is increasing day by day not only in India but abroad too. I think the main reason for this is lot of intake of junk food and secondly fat rich food like pizza and cakes, biscuits and ice cream during the parties and some happy occasions. Since now a days both the partners are working persons, they do not find time for cooking leisurely during the working days and so just finding an easiest solution like fast food or bread for breakfast thus causing over weight

yaaa these days many people are facing the problem....
their they ill gain the weight or loose...
mostly food fertilizers r the big problem i think so coz...
in olden days people eat the food which is not fertilizd....
they r very strong whn compared to this generation....
n may b bocoz of calroy food might b one reason...
n lack of exercise to the body n....

Hi sirill dear
I think after a long gap you are back and active my friend
You are right. Because of the chemical fertilisers, and medicines to get quick harvest and more yield, farmers are using new techniques resulting in the health problems and obesity. Definitely I must agree with you that the new generation is not that much strong enough as compared with the older generation.

vathsala30,
Putting on extra weight, is not that much effect in taking food,
what you have mentioned above in 3 points is not that much effect,
main thing is now a days in growing of the food grains, farmers
will adding the lot of medicine, which is giving very short
time harvesting, they cannot wait like before, 10 to 15 years back
they used putting natural manures to the paddy, ragi, wheat, dalls
etc., but as on today due to over populations day to days requirements
will be more, hence they cannot wait the natural manures for to give
enough reaping results, hence they adopted latest technology
of the harvesting methods, this will became to plus points
of the wait gaining. What you have mentioned 3 points result is
40% and latest technology result is 60%, i hope you will understand it.

Hi shalome
I will agree to what you say ie now a days farmers will spray chemical fertilisers and lot of medicines for quick harvesting and more yield. This will result in health problems and also lack of strength related problems thus resulting in overweight

The main reason for getting overweight is having extra calories on regular basis then what we burn as a result of our regular exercise. In additon to the reasons mentioned by you, i would like to add a few.
1. In office work most people have table jobs now
2. More luxuries available these days
3. addiction to net
Of course these two can become part of your Lack of physical exercise option.
@vathsala30 (3732)

Hi common_man
You are very true. If we take extra calories than what we actually burn, then it turns into fat deposition in our body causing over weight, and gradually turns into obese thus leading into several health related problems. Yes. unlike in the olden days, we are not hard working and everything is available at the table and even ladies need not strain in the kitchen as lots of electrical and electronic gadgets are making our work easier making us to burn less calories and luxury life and addiction to net are adding fuel to fire to increase body weight

It is hard not to eat ice cream, pastries and all other fatty foods. This is common with most adults and even children. If we could all just limit it a little less everyday with the fatty foods, then I think it would be easier for all of us to eat smarter.

Hi melody
you are very true. If we want to maintain our health and weight, undoubtedly, we must cut short of all the junk food, cream rich food, deep fried food and foods that are rich in calories. We should also participate in physical activities like exercises, yoga, brisk walking, breathing exercises etc.

Apart from the reasons that you have listed for over-weight, the following also contribute for over-weight.
1. Thyroid problem
2. stress and depression. When a person is depressed, he tends to eat more. Also stress and depression makes change in the body and obesity occurs.
@vathsala30 (3732)
• India
1 Mar 10
Yes. Thyroid plays a major part for obesity. It is also true that when we are feeling low, we tend to eat something or other or while watching some programmes, we will be emptying chips or biscuit packets without our knowledge. The more interesting the programme is, the fast the packets will be emptied, thus making us gain weight rapidly

I think there are far too many additives, sugars and salts in food. If you take a look at well known branded products and comapre them to cheaper brands you will see that there is a huge difference is the amounts of sugars and salts in each product. the problem is, if you think you are buying a 'quality' higher priced product, you think you are getting something that is better for you, which is a total myth. Cheaper brands sometimes have less calories. People are so busy now too and it can be hard to make time to prepare a good, nutritious home cooked meal.
@vathsala30 (3732)

Hi beautyfactor
I agree with you that even cheaper products will have high value and quality. This I have experienced several times. So always I will not go for a higher brands but sometimes to the cheaper brands too. But however the brands may be it is better to avoid foods with rich fats, calories, and junk foods. let us take protein rich, fibre rich, and vitamins rich foods and always stay hale and healthy
