Hi mylotters. I have a question to all of you. Hope you will share your views. We all know that english is an international language and we share our views here in english. But if you find a discussion in a language other than english, then how would you react? Would u like to respond finding your mother tongue in this international forum? Would u feel more excited bcoz u have found a mylotter from your local language? Do u think that uses of someone's mother tongue in mylot is beyond criticism or its a general matter for u? Why i am asking these?, yes u can see my last response to a discussion just before starting this one. That was a dis from an indonasian newbie who has started that discussion in malay language even he has received two responses including mine. I too use some sentances from different languages in a response but never use a second language as entire description. So i want to know your reaction about this matter. Thanks in advance.

hello shibham, well i have seen discussions like this before, some discussion that was written in our mother tongue...and it was a discussion from a newbie, the first thing that comes to my mind was maybe this person don't read the guidelines & not yet familiar with the rules here. usually i don't respond to these kind of posts specially when i already saw someone who have corrected them already. i usually skip posts like that coz possibility is that it will just be deleted... good day!

yeah, with our exchange of posts i think its just fine coz as you said we also translate it in english, we are just using some words from our dialect to emphasize...hehe and for some expressions. before i have seen someone who posted his whole discussion in tagalog! huh! he said there that why we are not using our own language...blah blah...its kinda annoying as well reading the post coz some lotters corrected him already but he's still reasoning out...huh!

Hi, as both of u have noticed that me too use some tagalog words in our conversation. But there should b a limit and nobody should nt be annoyed. If an entire dis is made by a 2nd language and be popular in a certain range, then definitly mylot would have some certain groups and a broad social networking site would be out of our imagination, right. Thanks

If yje user is new then I usually respond saying that only English us allowed here and point them to the Guidelines. If it is a user with a higher reputation then I don't always respond. In both cases I report the discussions. There are many in the 'no responses' from 4 years ago and recently I have been responding and hoping that they are removed.

For several days now there is a glitch with the 'no responses' tab. You can find the newer discussions under the 'new' and 'recent' tabs and hopefully the problem will be resolved soon.

I don't use the homepage much but I just realised that there the 'no response' discussions are working correctly so you can see them from there. Just open the homepage and refresh it often and you will see them.

Mylot has specified that we only use English here to communicate and using other languages is forbidden so I don't know why that discussion you mentioned here is not deleted. When someone from my country respond to my discussions they usually add in one two words of malay words which is in fact greetings and I will reply them in English but add malay words too to reciprocate what they have written in malay. But overall I never use any other language besides English.

Hi zandi, well said. That dis is already deleted. I too use a second language while interecting with a friend here. But not more than a sentance and as i am trying to learn tagalog, i tend to use a few tagalog words with my friends like ckyera, msfrancsico, eureka, acie, didi jaiho and other phillpino friends. I think i have not violated any guidelines of mylot. Anyway if i wish to learn malay will u help me? Thanks for response.

Hi Shibham, Once I received a response in some other language (other than English) and I could not understand anything. But the user was a new one and I politely replied him/her, other languages are not permitted in mylot. If you want to use the other language then you have to give the translation in English. Very rarely I used local language with friends from my native but I have given the translation in bracket as I know that this is an international forum and other people can’t understand our language and they may feel it as an insult.

hello dear bhai, If only mylot will allow us to use our mother tongue then i will surely respond or create a discussion using our mother language. But,thinking aloud, how could we a build a great discussion if each of us will use each native languages? This maybe the reason why mylot doesn't allow us to do so. We will never figure out what other mylotters from other countries were saying and what discussion they are up to. Using one language, the English language will always be the best to build this site a good forum/discussion with other people from all over the globe. I am not against using our own languages, only that...not all of us knows more than 5 or more languages.

Hi didi, points are here. If mylot would provide your said commodities and we get busy with our own language, then definitly mylot will lost its internation fame and pride. We never meet each other and perhaps i would be the most unlucky person losing his didi. Oh. No. Thanks for response.

I consider myself new to mylot also since i just joined 3 weeks ago. If ever i'll encounter a discussion not in english, i'll respond to it and inform the person concerned that english should be the language used since it is found in the guidelines. We are only human so sometimes we tend to commit mistake but we should learn from them.

Technically it's illegal, probably will get deleted. Personally I'd ignore it unless I spoke the language. At which point I might tell them in that language that the discussion is at risk. I'm not here for the money anyway...

i might not respond to that said discussion, especially if it's not my mother tongue, and sure that i won't understand what the poster is trying to say. but i would response if it is from the same language that i have, if it's written in filipino or tagalog language. when i response, i will explain to the poster that only english language is accepted on mylot, i will response also in our language and will advise to see the guidelines if ever he doesn't know about it. definitely, the discussion will get removed, so i will also tell the poster about it.

Hi neil, u are right. But most often the newbies do this fault unknowingly. Better we should inform them about the guidelines. Its sure that those dis must be deleted but before it the starter should be concern about his/her fault. Thanks.

There are many mylotters, who are not from any English speaking nations. Its good to have ours discussions in our own mother tongue, but the forum must be different. If we find any discussions in any other language other than english then it will soon messed up.We will have to allot time for searching discussions on the language that we speak or write.Just imagine about Posts or comments in any language that we don't know. It will become quiet hard to communicate with other mylotters. Its better to continue Mylot in English as a result.

Right tuya, as english is a common language we all can interect with each other. Nothing can replace it but if there would be multilingual system in mylot, then i thing they would provide us a search option to get easy to the dis of our native language. Hahaha, Thanks

hey! though its an international site where we all post in english, i don find it wrong or awkward in any way for a person to post in some other language. just imagine his surprise when he finds a response to his discussion in the indonasian language if that's what he has posted. may be he would also like to be friends with people who have the same interests as him.

Hi, I think it is very tempting and exciting to see a forum using your own language but I will simply not respond to the discussion even if it is using my mother language, even though the topic is very interesting because I want my post to be read and understood by many people. Maybe a single foreign word or phrase will do but not the whole message.

My native language is English and I'm not multilingual, although I wish I was. Therefore this wouldn't be a problem for me to deal with. But for those who it is, I wouldn't answer any post not in English. This violates Mylot rules, which makes sense, you could say something untoward in a language just to get something illegal past the admin. Unscrupulous!

Hi, i m little bit confused (if i have not misunderstood). If u are not a multilingual, then u dont find any problem in such dis where an another language is used. Anyway. As u have said its a guidelines violence and he/she treated as a rull breaker and yes his dis get deleted. Thanks for response.

According to mylot guidelines, we are not allowed to express ourselves in other languages apart from english here, but there are still some members who like to post in their native tongue, which brings great trouble to mylot members. Mylot is an international forum with members from different nations, the basis for communication is the mutual language, and english is this language. If all of us use different languages, we won't be able to communicate with others. I never respond to discussions in other languages except english.

Hi Shibam, I think it's okay to have such kind of discussion in here. but you are limiting the opportunity of getting some more responses from those not using your native tongue. not unless you put on translation that we can understand and have an appreciation of what's going on in the discussion. we need to be sensitive enough to use English as the main language here to communicate clearly with each other...it's a generic language for all of us! This is cool but will be best with translation. it will surely be an extra effort to the author and even to those who will respond. but this is quite challenging!

Yes titli, u r right. Such type of efforts always will be admirable. Some one is working here with two languages- his/her native and english, then must he/she will a writer of honor here. But if u use your language in sense of to show your love towards mother tongue, then i think its nt the right place. What do u think? Thanks.

If I stand in the view of one who found someone who has another common language with me other than English, definitely I would be excited on seeing post written in that language. If the topic is something that I am keen in, I would respond but in English. Although it's good to find friend who knows the same language as myself, I hope everyone can join in the discussion because here it's for open discussion. It would be better to reserve the topic of other languages as private messages if the topic is not meant for all to discuss. I don't wish to sound too offensive. Please kindly allow me to clarify myself. If standing in the shoe of some one whom knows the language, it's seems perfectly fine, but in the view of being someone who doesn't know the language, it would seems like being out casted from that topic.
