What are the sounds of your home at night?

Normally, when snow falls off at night, it's the sound of child going down a slide, then tappity, tappity, tap as small amounts crumble off the end. Once in a while an entire sheet all comes off and hits bottom with a thump.
But the last storm, the snow was really, really heavy, it goes crack, rumble, rumble, creek. The snow breaks off, seems to be sticking and fighting the slide, then hits more snow in another part of the roof. Then this starts again and when some part of it finally hits the ground, it sounds like foomp!
My husband bought a new space heater because the last one died. 1 1/2 years old and it died. This one is an energy star, too, louder, but it's not on as long.
So what sounds do you hear in the night? Do you have any new sounds? Have you ever been to someone's home at night and couldn't sleep because of the different sounds? Have any new sounds caused any confusion or any stories you'd like to relate? Thanks.

hi! I don't hear any sounds at night, because I sleep very deep and even s storm can't wake me up : but if I was awaken, the sounds that I mostly hear, are the sounds of the passing cars on the street!

Cute little devil you got going on your avatar, there.
My husband is like that. He can sleep through mice chewing in the walls, the cat needing something, etc. Cars going by at night, that sound would drive me crazy. Luckily, we sleep on the 2nd story and we can only hear the snow plow which doesn't go through until early the next day like 4 AM, 6 AM, 8AM.
Thanks for your response and take care.

We don't have snow here in our country, so we don't hear kids playing at night. It is really silent here in our house because we really are not a loud family. The only sound I hear at night is the rumble of the electric fan. I wish I could hear more natural like the sound of the cricket or a bird, but we don't have much of them here. But when it rains, we hear a lot of frogs croaking very loudly, which is pretty normal.

Thank you for responding. I like the happy faces.
Kids aren't playing at night, the snow sliding down the roof sounds like kids sliding down the roof, normally, but it's not sliding too well lately.
We have a swamp down the road and we hear lots of frogs croaking too. When my cat was young, we didn't hear many birds because he scared them all away. Now he's slow and old, must be less scary because there are many birds now.
My neighbors are a loud family, but we aren't.
Thanks again and take care.

The only sounds I hear is that of my better half snoring in bed. It resembles to the sound of a distorted orchestra or a new heavy metal group practicing a song. I prefer to keep my bedroom door closed as the sound of the aquarium water being filtered really annoys me, The water dripping though faint really keeps me awake. Then when everything is quiet and silent, my dog upstaris might give a small growl to let me know she is still there sleeping on her own and that she prefers to be near me sleeping on the carpet. beside my bed. Finally my eye

I was wondering about that original finally my eye.
Sounds like it's a process of wading through the noise, relaxing and finally going to sleep. Thanks for your response and take care.

Whenever I get to be at home and experience the sounds home at night, I'll hear stillness. No sounds, and there's the occasional car or motorcycle ride, but that's just about it. There's some sort like a still eeriness that I can't describe, but that's actually pretty tolerable than a huge noise..

There's always some kind of sound here. Birds, the wind, something. It would be eerie to have no sound.

hello there,
from where i am living now, what i usually hear at night are vehicles passing by. we are not that near to the road but still we can hear its noise.
there are also some sounds from lizards once in a while as well as barking of dogs.
there are also some nights that we can hear the noise of the cats playing around!
but in our previous house, i really like it there, nights are usually silent and what we usually hear specially when its windy is the sound of the sea, which is like music to the ears!

Sounds like you really liked your previous home by the sea, I think I would, too. Thanks and take care.

The sounds you'll hear here at night are TV's that are running 24/7 and people snoring. Also on some nights you'll hear me playing Guitar Hero.

Well here people can't sleep without the noise... They're just used to it and don't like it any other way.

Around my home at night, there are the sounds on my cat, my assistant watching the DVD player or typing on my computer if I go to bed before them (a rare occurrence; I'm the night owl). You might also hear me tossing and turning in my bed if I'm having a bad spam night.

Well actually...
My husband and I moved back home after about nearly a month's hiatus with another relative. The relative got sick so we had to come back home. In any case, it took us a bit to get used to the sounds at night at said relative's house though we have spent the night there before.
When we got back home we didn't need to adjust.
The sounds we hear at night are usually only the sounds of the fan we have in our room, or if it's late at night and his dad is still awake we hear the t.v. Occasionally a car will go by but we don't hear that so much as maybe see the headlights if we're still awake.

Yes, in the high heat of summer, we often only hear the fan and if it goes above 90 degrees F, then we hear the air conditioner. Thank you for your response and take care.

I am a pretty heavy sleeper so once I'm out, there are not many sounds that will wake me up..lol. There aren't really any sounds at night here..that I know of..but sometimes in the summer, the fan will be running and it actually puts me to sleep.

My husband is a heavy sleeper, too. He leaves me to deal with all the sounds of the night. If a fan has a suttle noise, that isn't too bad. An old rickety one, that's another story. Thanks and take care.

well the refrigerator will make a lot of noise at times throughout the night so that can be a little unsettling at times.
the snow we have when it isn't as cold makes a dripping noise so you kind of get used to that, but it is always active around here so you will here a lot of cars passing by so i hear that a lot more then the in the house noises, since we are right next door to a doughnut shop.
we will get a lot of noise at odd hours with people going over there to get coffee and whatever so there will be a decent amount of traffic that can go through on different days and it doesn't matter what the weather is like those people will still have to go there even if its a blizzard out i was amazed we got about a foot of snow and that parking lot was still full over there with a line in the drive thru.
it did get decently loud when some of the icicles started to fall off of the house, but most of them melted when it got a little warmer so it wasn't too bad, but since we are somewhat close to the highway here i end up hearing traffic more then anything.

Be careful of icicles, we had one person in town get hit on the back of the neck with a decent-sized one and it went part-way through paralyzing him from the neck down. Another person got knocked out and had a big gash on his head.
I think we should all buy stock in donut shops, what do you think?

The sounds you can here during night time are the air breez and wind passing our backyard. You can also hear our lovebirds chirping and our dogs barking when people are passing by in front of our gate. The one ting that scares me is our grand fathers clock that dooms at exactly 12mn. I have to sleep before that time because thats the sound I don't want to here during sleep lol :)

Sounds like some good natural sounds until the bong of the clock disturbs you. Interesting the patterns of natural versus manmade that I'm reading here. Thanks and take care.

Yes, howling dogs can be eerie. We had coy dogs that had the most haunting sound when they went off. It was amazingly spooky. Thanks and take care.

I once had a leaky faucet that kept me awake. So I turned off the water to it. Then later on, I learned that I needed to have the water do that so the pipes wouldn't freeze. Oh well, live and learn
Sorry about the cat and the horror story, taht must be rough. Thanks for responding and take care.

JUST NOW....as I am getting used to the unusual NIGHT sounds..will they end!
The UNUSUAL sounds...Aircraft of every form...every few minutes, 24/7! And until the Paralympics are over! The Island that I live on is in the radius of the "NO GO" zone, for the Olympics...and both the USA and CANADA are heavily patrolling the Airspace! More so, the helicopters, and they are highly deployed, as they are using heat sensor...so fly very low...and the concussion from the rotors actually cause things to clink and clank in the house...it's just eery..and annoying..and now that it will be over soon...I won't be able to sleep for a while due to the silence...LOL! It normally is so rural here, just the cacophony of the Frogs..at nite. Take care...and Cheers!

My goodness, no peace and quiet for you!
Bet you will be glad when everything is all over up there.
A little early for frogs here. Summertime, we'll hear them.
Thanks and I hope you survive to be able to sleep again. Must be rough between that and the spider bite. Thanks for responding and take care.

at night here in my place, i can hear the sounds of the cars since i lie near the street or highway where theres always car going on and on. thats one of the disadvantage if you live near the street even though you will have all the benefits like its very convenient for you to buy foods, go to school, church and etc. but the noise is not acceptable. i still want to live in the province where all you cn hear at night is the sounds of the birds and owl.

We sleep at the back of the house and since we live on a back road, there aren't that many cars anyway during the night. But yet we're close to town. I can walk to the store, post office, diner, and my insurance agent as well as my credit union. We're lucky, we have the best of both worlds. But it is 8 miles to a real grocery store and 25 to a Mall. Most of our jobs are 10 to 28 miles away, so that is a drawback.

It is the beatles that sing away in the night as also some mice which chase each other not to forget the dogs that howl away to glory and yes there will be traffic right through but scanty though. Come five in the morning the birds will start their chirping. I have countless of them which perch on the trees which are there in plenty in my compound, and my rooster who leads the choir.

Sounds like you have quite a few critter sounds. I've never had a rooster, just an alarm clock. Critters we hear mostly in the spring, summer, and fall. Thanks and take care.
