Does anyone have any tips to help a cat with eczema?

Our lovely little girl Biscuit came to us with eczema. She was living on a farm and had developed a severe allergy to fleas. Even though we are meticulous with her flea treatment, her eczema still flares up on occasion. She will sometimes scratch a patch red raw and it looks awful. The vet gave us some pills but they don't seem to help. I wondered if anyone knew of any natural remedies we could try or whether there is anything to do to help her. She's such a sweet-natured and timid little thing. I think that's half the trouble in that she's so timid that she gets stressed very easily and her eczema flares up.

I don't have cats, but my neighbour does and she has a cat with the same problem. She rubs Gold Bond medicated cream into the raw areas and then cuddles the cat to keep her from scratching it off before it seeps into her skin. Now she hardly ever has to do it, and she has a much happier cat. Don't know if this will work for you, but it's a thought............

I'm going to search out some Gold Bond, definitely. Thanks for the tip.

Treat any sours she causes quickly so they don't get infected. Try and keep her in doors, that should help. Make sure that she's not getting fleas, and avoid baths unless you really have too, water tends to dry out a cat's skin even worse and would hurt her. Other then that try and keep her confertable and love on her.

Thank you for that very good advice. We don't bath her, so that isn't the cause, but everything else you mention is a good point.

Well I know with people who suffer from eczema, they are often allergic to dairy products. Cutting out milk from her diet might help, that's if you give her milk. It might be worth a try anyway.

That's a good tip. She doesn't very often have milk but occasionally my husband will give her a little bit. We'll cut it out.
