Hello,
I've never heard the name. I think you should give us some hint about to what field this name is related to. I guess its a chinese word. I don't know chinese, so I can't even make an intelligent guess. SunTzu? Sounds holy and dignified. Is it some traditional dish of china? Well, it may also be a name of some ancient leader who was quite respected and revered. You should have given some hint brother.
God bless you

Hey Vandana,
One of our friend said he wrote Art of War. Is that true? Oh dear, I have that book, but never actually cared to open it. Guess I have to start reading it right away. See how this discussion has changed my life...lol. Thanks dear

Yes, I know Sun Tzu and I have read The Art of War. It is a very famous book and one of the reasons of why it is so popular is that the strategies mentioned in the book can be applied in a variety of situations including daily life, management and war even to this date. Sun-Tzu is a Chinese warrior-philosopher and I think he would have made a great deal of money from his book if he were alive today lol.

It might literally translate to 'the way of war' idk . But I think the most popular translation of Sun Tzu's book is by Thomas Cleary and it's called, The Art of war. It has great sentences that talks about strategies similar to divide and rule, mastery of terrain, planning, formation, adaptations etc. I personally found the book to be a little over-rated and that probably is because I had really high expectations before reading it since I had heard a lot about it, but it definitely is a keeper. One other book that comes to my mind is, The Prince, by Niccolo Machiavelli which is a rather infamous book talking about diplomacy, strategy and deceit.

My son told me it translates as 'the way of war' but I think 'art' sounds more sophisticated. It is all about analysing how people think and react.
If you wanted to be a great war time strategist, I think reading that book and playing chess would get you in the correct mind set.

They are books I think my son read for his psychology or sociology studies.
While I find them all quite interesting, it is still quite dry reading when it is verse after verse of wise observations.
He bought me Dantes inferno one Christmas and I still haven't read it.

I've read part of the Art of War. Very interesting tactical thinker. I wonder if making it required reading would change the way some people think.

Your starting a discussion has no clear direction, my friend. You did not even emphasize who is that person are you talking about?
How can someone think about if they never heard and never know this particular creation. If this is a human or animal in it's sense...?

I think he was a legendary Chinese warlord, who developed his own military rules and tactics. I think it was him who said that "it's not important to beat the enemy in battle, it's important to do that without battle".

As i know about Sun Tzu, he was a great war strategic advisor of China in the ancient time. I also know one other name of Sun Bin. I don't know what is the relationship between Sun Tzu and Sun Bin, whether they were relatives or a same person, but the fact is both of them are the greatest war strategic advisor in China history. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

Hi SunTzu, I heard of him briefly on some television program. :) We have an equivalent, Chanakya, or Kautilya. :) I wish these wise people had spent their energies is evolving strategies on keeping people united instead of telling others how they can win wars. :( One this is for sure, Chanakya did mention something that once a person becomes an enemy, he should not be trusted. :( That is something that has been proved wrong, isn't it? World is no longer at war with Japan, or Germany, or Russia. We Indians feel no animosity towards Britishers, Dutch, French, or Portuguese. We fought bitterly for independence from them. :)

I did a report about sun tzu when I was in college in my philo class. He was a chinese military general who wrote the art of war. It is about managing and winning battles and the philosophy that surrounds it. You can also build sun tzu's art of war in the game civilization.

I think he is the ancient writer isnt he?
Of 'the way ' except it is called an oriental form of the name.
My son has one of the books and I have read bits of it.
A very philosophical person.
I like how direct and logical some of it is.
Nothing really changes ,things are still as apt today.
