Hello lotters,
you don't have to add this interest at all if it's not related but i had to put this here because this is something that caught my attention because i wasn't expecting a black out here at all.
I know that because of the El-Nino, a lot of farms are suffering, not mention live stocks. and what's worse is that the dams drying up causing more black outs and high increase in the electricity bill.
we didn't have this last year, same summer, hot stuff but no black out. I don't like it, could have been reasonable black out last year, last month, now in mindanao almost a day of black out, reminds me a lot of 1992 where we had to wait eight hours before we regain electricity.
the most disturbing part is that in this country, we going to have the first 2010 automated elections in the history, and having this black outs, gives me the SHIVERS
Have a great day.....

Hi Letran! I hate blackout too! They sure are very scary!
When I was younger we had a major blackout that blew out
the power all over the State of NY! Now that was really
scary! That was the first time the lights went out all over
NY and the whole City of NY was completely dark! It was
before 9/11, but I think it might have been in the 1980's!
I don't remember how long the power was out, but it was
a really long time! We have power outages from time to time
where I live, usually in the Summer months due to the
overusage of power, but they usually are able to get it back
also within a 24 hour period! I always keep emergency supplies
on hand, like batteries, flashlights, candles and food! I
have a gas stove so that part isn't so bad because I can still
cook! But, when the power goes out so does my phone, cable
and Internet because they are all connected so I have to make
sure my cellphone is always charged just in case!

hello Opal,
i agree that emergency stuff should be prepared when black outs comes out. specially this election, there should be a lot of generations ready in case that there's a possible black out in a certain areas.
you know i always bring my flash light and put it in my bag.

Well I guess government has announced that there may be blackouts here and there and they will try their best to restore and or avoid getting this during the election. I think this means that we really as consumers put our consumption to the lowest to be able to save and at the same time never overload our power plants so they can distribute the power to everybody. I think we need the cooperation with that one to ensure continous flow of power to everybody.

hello rsa,
yeah, i figured that they raised the electric more than we can afford. now, that my nephew and niece is here i doubt we can save that big this month. and i was even told by my mom to spend less time in the computer. i felt disappointed that we ares till using coal most of the time in terms of energy use.

Yes I also am not able to consume less as our electricity needs are really constant per month. Lowering that would mean that we should avoid using certain types of appliances but we cannot just do it since most of it is on electric fan and aircon. We are really hooked on oil and coal as of today since Hydropower cannot produce enough power since water levels are at critical levels. I think this Hydropower plants are the ones that put enough electricity so that we would use less of the oil and coal power plants which is very costly. I just hope that we would pass this season since it really is damaging on us already. How I wish I could see and feel the rain so the dams could be filled up again.

Hi..Letran
The Philippines are so lucky. You have only two hours blackout. I am staying in the IT capital of India,Bangalore. Here in the city there is a declared blackout for two hours. One hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. This is declared one. But there will be undeclared blackout will be there. This is the condition in the city. But the rural areas will have only two hours power.
What I can see here is that Power shortage is going to be one of the main isssue in the near future.

Last year we had a very severe ice storm that left many without power for up to a month! It was horrible! A couple of years before that we had flooding that left people out of there homes for a couple of weeks and some much longer. You guys must not get this often. Here 8 hours is an inconvenience but only serves to remind us how important electricity is in our lives.

hello sid,
that's very sad to have happened. we had three days with out electricity ywa back 2005 and it was horrible because we get to loose thrift from using water, we had to go to other subdivision just to get distilled water.

you should have put this in my created interest, "not interested at all"
just like in the capital, in luzon, we also have frequent power interruptions here in the visayas. sometimes, it will took us the whole day or half of the day without electricity and that is irritating to everyone. business establishments stop operating, those small businesses without generators. even in some government offices, cannot do any transactions because most of the machines, especially computers need electricity.

hello neildc,
oh, really? that's what happens if we have the technology but the techno regarding power is very low tech could turn us often back into the black out ages.

It's so funny to think that when there are a lot of water in the dam during Ondoy, they throw it away or the don't store it because it might break the dam, but now we need water so bad that we wish it would rain.
I think the electric compan(y)/(ies) in Mindanao should have a rotating brownout even for 15-30 mins a week or a schedule to avoid power shortage, like what they do in Luzon. here in or city, we experience rotating brown outs, but we don't have to wait too long for the electricity to come back.
I think what's best to do is to save electricity to avoid black outs or brown outs. Saving electricity would also lower the electric bill =)

hello dragonite,
they should have at least an area for additional water storage to prevent those than being wasted as considered as flood.now we are loosing more water due to this terrible pain of summer

It also gives me some doubts on what will happen on May 10. I just really hope that these blackouts are really because of the El Nino, and not some political agenda or something.. I also remember those days in 1992 where the blackouts are scheduled, and it's really fun for us, cause we were still young then, and we could play outside the house until the electricity is back.

They are practicing for the coming election like what FVR did to Mirriam Defensor Santiago in the 1992 election
