Creepy. I heard the song "It's the End of the World as We Know It"...

...after hearing about the tragic earthquake which hit Chile. Is that a sign? I know it may just be a coincidence, but what are your thoughts about the growing number of disasters hitting various places around the globe? Are these events really telling us something? Is it a symbol of impending doom/cataclysm? I don't want to be an alarmist, but if you're not superstitious, what else can the possible reasons why these things are happening? Are we paying the price for the blatant environmental abuse? Is this nature's way of telling us to stop polluting and start protecting? Gawd. I hope for a better tomorrow. :(

I am actually alarmed about the way constant disasters are occurring around the world. In fact I was connecting them in my mind to the predictions about the end of the world! In the film '2012' they showed that strange things would start happening by the end of 2009 and if we look back,it does not seem so much of a coincidence anymore. The recent large-scale disaster and loss of life in Haiti too points to a similar tragic fate which awaits the world.I am sorry to be superstitious but that is what is plaguing my mind at the moment. It is downright true that we are being paid back by Nature for the abuse we have been carrying on for centuries. It is high time that we fold up our sleeves and stop this rampant abuse. It depends on each and every individual to do what we know is best for the world,to save ourselves from the impending catastrophe!

2012 is nothing but garbage psudeo-science. Earth quakes are no more frequent or bigger than they have been. Nothing strange at all about the one in Chile.

These things happen because nature is unpredictable and certain parts of the world due to physical location etc are bound to have earthquakes...just like certain parts of the world are prone to tornados, blizzards, mudslides and so on...There is no "sign" or anything of the sort...and these tragedies are NOT the first...chile for example had a massive earthquake somethign like 60 yrs ago..These arent new or sudden...they've happened before.. As for the song, its by REM and has been around since the late 80s early 90s...good tune!!

I actually LOVE the song. Certainly bleak and depressing, but weirdly pleasant to the ears...

"but if you're not superstitious, what else can the possible reasons why these things are happening?" If one isn't suspicious then the possible (the only) reason would be that in a subduction zone, when two continental plates pushing together build up preasure, they eventualy slip and release energy we see in the form of earth quakes. These earth quakes sometimes move a chunk of ocean floor and displace a lot of water causing a tsunami. Earth quakes happen every day on the planet, we just here about them more and more because of advaces in communication. We also tend to think this way when a really large one happens and we hyper focus on it. This wasn't even the worst quake ever recorded. It is not likely even close to the worst one the planet ever had before we started recording these things.

It may be a sign the world is climate changing a little but be assured the world will never end the earth will not ever stop and Gods creation will always be butour individual existence in humanity may flicker. The spiritual realm holds the car to our survival and is the greater plane of faith and love.

It does seem like there is more disasters but I think that a lot of it is the fact that we have a lot more ways now to become aware of them. There have always been things happen but there have not always been ways to be alerted and the news passed around the world. I do think there have been a bit more than usual but I think that some of our knowledge of it is media related.

It is natural phenomenon and we can't avoid it to happened. Our country is also included in the ring of fire. We always experienced typhoons and natural calamities.

I've got no worries whether the world ends today, tomorrow, seconds later or even now. I am quite happy with what I have right now. I mean, I have faith in God and I know very well that he will not bring me to troubles.

Well for now it really is difficult to know if it is a sign already. I think in the past when things like this happens everybody would think that the end is near already. But decades has passed by we are all still here. Right now, I think we are just having coincidences of what happened in Haiti and Chile. They are not connected with each other. I too have no answer why we are having this strong quakes but I think only mother nature can answer why these things are happening in our planet.

I've learned that the pressure under earth is accumulating everyday. And once it the outer layer of the earth cannot overbear the pressure, it will break out of the land and an earthquake will happen. And there are years when earthquakes happen more frequently than other years. But it is natural for the earth. So you don't need to be worry about the earthquake. But we should really pay attention to environment problems anyway.

We don't know what will really happen tomorrow because only God holds the future. As a Christian, I believe that yes, the time is near. The disasters that was pointed may probably be the sign of HIS second coming. Although those events were perfectly explained with scientific explanation but it is part of the ultimate realization for some of the prophecies cited in some books of the Bible. What we have to do is to live our life in Godly ways and prepare ourselves to face our Creator. This is not a way of telling you guys to believe me but I'm just sharing my opinion based on my belief as a Christian hoping that some hearts will be open for God so that many of us will be ready when He comes. Jesus loves us all. God bless and happy mylotting.

Well tomorrow we could all wake up and the world could be over. This is no different than what could have happened yesterday or today. These disasters might be frightening and are in fact tragic, but I am reluctant to say that they are a sign of some grander disaster. It could be or it could just be a string of unfortunate circumstances that just happened right next to each other, making everything look ten times worse than it might be. Still, there are many problems with this world. Some that can be solved by humanity. Some that are just going to happen, regardless of what we do or do not do. Environmental abuse only accounts for only a fraction of what is occurring. Granted, that fraction is growing by the day, but there are other things that could account for what is happening. For all I know, aliens could blow the Earth out of orbit and into the sun tomorrow just because it was obstructing their view of Venus or something, burning us all to a crisp. However, what ever happens, happens. If there is an earth shattering kaboom tomorrow, then there really much of anything we can do about it.

As a Christian, I believe the times of the End are near. I don't look as much at natural disasters because there are scientific explanations as stated by my fellow myLotters. And yes, I do believe man is contributing to our demise (global warming.) My alarm is in the number of children being murdered. People actually executing young ones is not the norm. We just had news of a father killing his family. It's beginning to be a common thing nowadays and that's what makes me think "It's the End of the World as We Know It".
