Is hacking a justified skill or is it a legitimate threat?

Hello members,
We hear a lot about security breach in system network. We generally call this hacking. There are few phases of successful hack. First the hacker gathers intelligent information about victims system. The geographic location, the IP address, application and services running on the machine etc are few of the information that a hacker starts with. Then he investigates further about the vulnerability and the way to exploit them. The third phase is to gain and maintain access. In this phase hacker does whatever he wants. He can even cripple the system in this phase. The final phase is to terminate the access and then wipe out all the traces from the victim's computer.
This is the entire process of hacking. I know almost all of you have dealt with virus, spywares and worms. Terminating those malicious program from your computer can be difficult depending on the level of infection. But how many of you have actually faced a hacking or read about it or had an opinion about it?
The hackers have ideologies that sounds like hacking is actually quite ethical. On the pretext of gaining access to what is rightful, they present themselves like modern day Robin Hood's. The primary excuse they show is that information should be free to all. These hackers are no doubt genius of the field. They know every details of each of the packets a computer sends and receives. They have knowledge and great abilities, which can be used with malicious motifs as well.
What do you think friends? Do you really think hacking is justified? To what extent hacking is harmless? Do those hackers have anything justified in what they say?
God bless you all

Hello
I guess it depends on how they are used, I love the knowledge that comes with the skill, but considering I was hacked before I don't respect some of the people that obtain such skills, I guess that can come with anything you do, some use their knowledge for good others for the good of themselves which is really sad.
Thanks for sharing this.

Hi there,
I absolutely agree. This theory actually applies to every thing. I remember a statement made in one of those Spiderman movies,
With great power, comes great responsibilities..
Those really talented and skillful hackers are just misguided and lost minds. If they are encouraged to return to a normal life with normal way of thinking, their massive strength can be channelized to human welfare.
Thanks so much for such an in-depth response
God bless you

Anything that's done with malice is a crime. hackers may be considered a skill since the people who are expert in it mean they know what they're doing. But as the saying goes "The ends do not justify the means". Which means that no matter how good they are in what they do, if they do it for the wrong reasons then it's not good in general.

Its an activity of a person or a group of persons.. if that activity is used for construction purpose, then we can call that as a skill... but, if that is used for destruction, then it cannot be called as a skill...

I think that hackers are very skilled people and I hold a great respect for them, even though what they do isn't quite legal.I think that what they do not many could do. If they would use their talent to do something creative I know that the result would be something really cool and usefull, but it seems that they enjoy hurting people rahter than helping them.

Hi,
First of all, a very warm welcome for you to myLot. I completely agree, hackers do have extraordinary skills in the field of mathematics, computer networking, operating system etc, which gives them immense power to do almost anything. Academy or professional life can't satisfy their needs. They want to demonstrate it in a much higher level. There is a whole underworld of hackers who share information and exploits. The community has their own terms for system resources they work with. There are things that very few people know about.
Thanks so much for the response
Take care

I feel that in the right environment it is a skill in the right hands. Think about how many crimes and problems could be avoided if this skill was used in the right setting. However it is classic one bad egg makes it hard to have faith in the knowledge of those skills. I suppose that to answer this question it really boils down to intent. If you motive is greed it a threat but if your intentions are for the greater good then it could be considered a skill.

Hello Willow,
Welcome to myLot. Well like I said in my earlier comment, a skill should be imparted with a proper ethical sense too. These skills are totally unrelated to ethics. One can have to actually learn ethics differently. Most people and most institutions forget that. Thanks so much for such a sincere response.
Happy myLotting
