sentences is contradict with himself okkky gooooo !!

2 I take great pride on the fact that I'm modest person.
3 I'm giving up on being altruistic , it just doesn't pay.
4 I have decided that non of our thoughts are free, we are compelled
to think as we do by heredity and environment.

This is nice...
I cannot make out the first one though
The second one tells some thing about modesty. The person is saying that he is modest but using words such as "great pride" Was he boastful? Or modest?
The third one... Is being charitable. Altruistic. But then the catch is... so he was asking for something in return.
Lastly, he is saying something that thoughts are not free... but then he freely decided these thoughts... which is that thoughts are not really free.
Did I get 'em right? The first one I cannot make out. I hope you post the answers. =p

Hiii thanks for answering the questions !!
well I have to tell u my little secret ,I didn't know
the first one either LOL
thats why I add that sentence, see if someone might know hahaha
any way it was hard !!
the second one you got it right !! coz taking pride of being modest
which contradict our modesty.
the third ya true !!
The third is somehow wrong ,cos I thought of something else like
he just decided that non of our thoughts are free then why he says
compelled as we do !! non one compelled to do something that he
already do it !!
I wish I could know the first ask people around u LOL

Hello novelist!
The fist one is not very clear, but I guess you point is that the person is generalizing what he learned only from one fact, so he is doing what he says he can't do!
About the second one...
If you say that you are modest, you are not being modest of all because you are proud of that, so you think that makes you more than others, specially if the person says he takes great pride of that!
Number three: Well, altruism is all about doing good things expecting nothing not even a thank you in return. It is helping just for the reason of been humans! So If he stops doing good things or charity or whatever because it doesn't pays him back, it was never altruism!
The ford one says that our thoughts are not free, that our thoughts are slavers of what our parents taughted to us and what our society made of us. But at fist he said: "I have decided..." So that's a free thought that came with no help of the outside!
I hope I'm right, have a nice day, Libna!

Hi Novelist,
I find these sentences really confusing.
1)one thing that "he" learned that "I" can't generalize. I don't know what he learned, to begin with. How can I or why should I even bother to generalize something that I don't know.
2) he takes "pride" on the fact that he is a "modest" person. One can't be proud and modest at the same time.
3) Altruism is a positive thing. Yes, it is admirable. But to think it does not pay, think again. It's sad to give up on something that is admirably humanitarian.
4) Through the God-given gift of free will, we are free to think of anything (though we have the responsbility to choose to think of what is right). Although we are all created equal, no two individuals are the same. Heredity and environment influence the formation of our personality, but these do not compel us how to think.
I could be wrong, but the above are simply my opinions.
Your discussion was thought provoking. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Have a lovely day.
