We have 2 pet rabbits in the house. I would not recommend this we do not have any cords that are not bunny chewed. Now that they are older they are not eating everything. They need lots of fresh water. We got our rabbits at a farm store, much cheaper then a pet store. The nice thing about them in the house instead of out doors in a cage is that they don't get forgotten and they get lots of attention. Blackie lives in a cage and when I leave him out, he lays under our dining room window or table. Patches lives in the bathroom and when he is out he stays at Blackies cage. WE cannot leave them out together cause they fight. Patches is older and they are both neutered. You have to watch for heat stroke in the summer months with rabbits. They need to keep cool. We lost our first rabbit to heat stroke.

I don't know if they need anti-rabis shots or not. Your vet could tell you. They need to have their toenails trimmed for their own protection. This is something you can do yourself or make an appointment with a vet for it. We have to have the vet do it cause neither of our rabbits like to be handled. Blackie will lay still and let someone pet him but Patches doesn't like it so he has to be bribed to pet him. They all have different personalites. We think Patches was mishandled before we got him. He was very terrified in his 'Tub" at the store, that was why we chose him. He has never cared to be picked up but he is very friendly with us. Blackie wasn't handled enough when he was little so he doesn't like it now. Normal life span for a pet rabbit is 10 years.
They are very sensitive to heatstroke. We have a fan that we turn on in the summer for them. We don't have airconditioning. If you get a rabbit and you see it panting that is a warning sign that it is having heatstroke. We love our rabbits, even for all their messes they make. Now that they are older there not as bad. If you do get a rabbit and decide to have it in the house, get several litter pans, and don't use catlitter or newspapers for the litter. YOu will need special animal pellets for the litter, we buy them in a 40# bag at our farm store. That is the cheapest way here to get them. Good luck.

See www.rabbit.org for information on rabbit care before getting a pet rabbit. Often rabbits are sick if you buy them at a pet shop or swap meet, where they often come from pet mills. Look for a rescue or shelter rabbit first.
Rabbits do best if kept in large areas (at least 16 square feet), with a diet of mostly hay, and they should be spayed/neutered for population and health reasons as well.
