What I think is that its a fair price considering the power of the gaming machine thats cming out In about one day, and some good titles such as Metal Gear Solid, Killzone 2, and Gran Turismo.
But its still too expansive considering the Nintendo Wii coming out two Days after the PS3, is going to cost only $250 dollars.
Not looking at the games, but at prices, and avaialability i think many people...and parents will choose the XBOX 360 or the Wii over the PS3

Yeah, it sort of a tricky thing, all systems have their pros and cons, but I think price is a big issue for many families, especially when you do your research. Both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have already had problems reported. I've seen many complaints of the 360 overheating and burning out after about 8 months. Sony has just reported that the backwards-compatibility of the PS3 is having problems (including with very popular titles such as the Final Fantasy series) and can't be fixed before release.
I'll be getting a Wii, despite the lesser graphics quality and overall grunt, merely because it is cheaper, and Nintendo tends to provide quite sturdy systems. I do wish that they had a better range of more "adult" Wii games, but I'm not willing to shell out $600 for a console alone, then have to spend $50-$100 per game. It's just too pricey for me.
