my daughter just passed away April 2012- its VERY fresh it HURTS real bad- for me the best thing is when people dont say anything other than letting me know they are avail to listen to me if I want. Hugs for your friend are nice- Even if you let them know that you dont have any words but to let them know that if they need you to just be with them in the same room, they dont have to talk, you dont have to talk but it lets them know you are there for them
hope this helps
right now I am finding that people who I thought were close are nowhere to be found and that hurts the most!!

It's like others have said sometimes just being there for your friend with kindness and care is all your friend needs is to know that you are there for him....Just remember even with deaths there are greiving processes so if your friend gets angry or says something to you it's not you it's apart of his process goodluck my friend.

If you are lost for words then its Ok as long as you are there with your friend. Ask him how you could help, or what he needs. Let your friend say what is in his mind, let him cry.
