Lost my job...

Well a lot of you know I was working through a company for family. I lost my job because the family will be moved to a nursing home. I am not upset that I lost my job as I'd rather lose my job and know that the family member is going to get what's best for them. I have lost my job though and would need to reapply with company if I wanted to work for them again. They are on a freeze now though so while I can still fill out another application I am not guaranteed that they'll have a client I can sit with. So that means I'll need to go job hunting. I already put in one application and asked about others. I'll go around sometime and apply and talk to managers. I guess I'll go back with retail for now as I have more experience in it. So you'll most likely see me around here more often so that I can contribute to paying the bills. Wish me luck as I wish everyone who is looking for a job luck! Have a great day! Questions : Have you recently lost a job? How did it make you feel? Were you aware you would lose the job? Have you ever had to sign something acknowledging that you'd be terminated upon a certain basis?

Hi SomeCowgirl. Sorry that you have to lose your job, and have to go out there looking for one. I know that the climate out there is not that really good for job hunters. That's why I stay with mine even though I'm not happy. Anyway, I hope you find one soon. If not, I look forward to seeing more of your discussions that I could respond to. Goodluck!

Hi Bounce, I knew that it would happen, I just wasn't aware it'd happen this soon. I started back in early December. Like I said I'm not upset over it, I just now have to look for another job. I suppose it will be interesting, but on the days that there's no car to take, I'll have to stay here and mylot. Of course i'll apply to places online as well. Thanks for the good luck wishes. I hope you can find a job that you like better then the one your in now. Maybe things will look up for you!

I know you said that your not sad about losing your job, so I will put it this way ... I'm sorry to hear about the financial setback that this situation has put you in! Is that fair? It seems like everywhere the job market sucks really bad. My hubby got laid off last summer, and we just had another baby in October so 2009 was definitely a VERY stressful year! Hubby and I are both looking for jobs that fit with eachother's schedule. He will probably work the usual Monday to Friday 9 to 5 and I will work evenings and weekends. That way one parent can be home with our kids (4 month old and 3 year old). Good luck in your job search!

That's kind of what I was thinking ... some kind of store might be best for those kind of hours. I don't really care what I do for a job just as long as hubby and I can work it that someone is ALWAYS here for the girls! I'm not going to basically sign over my pay cheque and work for a sitter! No way, no thanks! Child care is SO expensive now a days it's disgusting!

Okay um it said I didn't have standard punctuation... Basically I said Good Luck with your job search and I hope that you can find a company willing to work with you! I don't blame you for not wanting to go with childcare outside of the home, it's not just expensive but you've got to really trust the person. When hubby and I have kids Grandma is taking care of them!

Hi PurpleTeddyBear, I'm not upset over it because I knew it would happen, also because the person is family and I want what's best for them. Of course there's a financial set back a bit but not too bad. Luckily we live with his parents who almost down right refuse to have his pay rent or anything like that. I hope that you and your husband can find a job that fits with your desired schedules. I'd say the best bet for nights and weekends is a grocery store. Some don't close until midnight, but kids have to be home before that, so they'd need an older individual not in school. I worked at a grocery store, mostly nights because I was out of school by then and could work until midnight or 11.

For various reasons when I had foot surgery, I told the company I was not coming back. They even offered me a different capacity if I did not want the management post back. I told them no, and again, that was for a number of reasons I will not go into here. When I left they had me sign a FMLA paper, that said that they had to hold my job open for me for twelve weeks because of the Federal Law, and that I could have it back if I wanted it. I gave them a written resignation, however, because I did not want the people I took care of held in limbo all that time. It has been eight weeks. I have a little bit of work, and I do freelance writing as well. We had paid off some bills and that was what let me do that. I am sorry you lost your job, but I admire and appreciate your attitude about the family member and their well being. Wishing you lots of luck on your job hunt.

Garden, That sounds like a very rewarding line of work. It doesn't sound too hard, and you get to help people and I'm sure your always learning something knew. As a program coordinator did you kind of make plans for activities, time for them to go out to shop, to their appointments, to help them with budgets and dietary needs?

Yep I did know! Well It's sad that so many of the shops are closed around you because of the economy. Hopefully the economy will get better and people can start opening back up their shops. We'll just have to see, maybe in the next year or so!

Sorry to hear that and hope you find something you like very soon. Last time I lost a job was in 2001, a layoff due to the division that I was supporting being outsourced. I was lucky as there was a shortage of IT people on the market due to Y2K and I found another job in less than a month. I knew way in advance. I would have been laid off 6 months earlier if I hadn't been pregnant with twins, long time employee, etc.

I suppose it could have been scary, but most of us tested the devil out of it and it ended up being pretty much a non event.

Dawnald, I am glad to here they were nice enough to keep you on while you were pregnant. Some people don't care either way, but it's good you were also able to find a job shortly after to replace the one you had been laid off from. I didn't realize that the Y2k epidemic effected so many IT jobs, but I don't see why it wouldn't. Y2K was a bit scary, but I think it was made more scary because of the media!

No not yet, but my husband and I are going to orientation this Friday for CNA. We have to take a reading comprehension test, and the school has told us it's only one class that we'd be taking, so we're going to see how it goes. The class would be $720 but that's combined, so it's $360.00 a piece.

We went to the orientation and it will be cheaper then we had first imagined, but we haven't calculated it up.

From my understanding, it seems like you got worse only because you weren't able to get the justice you deserved. You may have gotten worse either way, but with the justice you deserved you'd have had the company in the public eye, justice enough as I see it. I'll be alright, making plans to go to school anyway, so it'll work itself out.

Hi SCG! Yes, you can always ponder and take your own time to decide the course of your future and you can also go back to 'school'. Your last sentence flummoxed me : Best wishes to you and yours! By writing 'yours' and then putting the emoticon of 'silly', to whom you are referring to?

Losing a job is not something I'd welcome due to the fact that I have a lot of responsibilities, and should I lose a job now, I'd surely be in trouble. I did experience that before but it was due to the ending of a contract, not because I was fired or something. I felt so worried because there's no guarantee, as you have said, that we could find a new job easily. Most especially in these times when more and more people need jobs and more and more companies shut down, God knows when we'll find another job. But regardless with job or not, our responsibilities will always be there and our bills will keep on increasing. Anyhow, I wish you well, and I hope you'll find one soon. It's good that you have at least resorted to mylot for the extra tips and earnings as you are now looking for another job to land on. Again, good luck!

Hello Laydee! Yes, Well I will be looking for a job with more fervor on my husband's next day off. Hopefully I will find something! I'm not going to worry about it too terribly though! Our responsibilities are small compared to what they will be in few years time, so we can manage with just one job for a little while. How you are doing welL!

I have always had to sign something usually acknowledging that I would never let out any company secrets and that all paper work was destroyed appropriately. I never minded and understood fully what it meant. I wish you well in getting another job in a timely manner. I think people today who are looking for work need to keep in mind that sometimes looking for a different type of job can't hurt.

Hi Celtic, I know that a lot of jobs have people sign agreements, but when I signed the form I did it was a surprise. I did understand it though and knew before even the program I work for knew, that I'd be losing my job. I'm keeping into consideration different jobs. I'm going to apply for waitress at all the restaurants or almost all the restaurants in my county. Then, after that I am going to go with the few grocers, and after that I am not sure what I'll go with... Maybe the charitable stores....

I haven't faced the problem of termination, but I had gone through tension when I see many of my friends were getting terminated in the two companies I worked. It is common in IT companies and now people are able to accept it and keep their confidence up to search for a job. I wish you all good luck to find a good job soon. God bless you.

With economic crisis hitting many countries nowadays it is not surprising to hear people losing their jobs. It is the result of the crisis. HOwever, we need to adopt a positive mind and look for something that will generate income for us. You can start a small business if you can't find any company to work for. Offer your services to the neighborhood. Post a sign that you are available to do certain jobs. My mother too lost her teaching job but this did not kill her. She shifted to another career, started her own business and now I think she is doing a lot better than her previous work.

Hello! How are you? Well I was aware that I would lose my job. I signed a paper actually saying that I understood it could happen. Well I'm not sure about going into a business. I'd like to sale afghans, first I'd need to know how to best make them. That would be a great side career I would think. I'm actually thinking about going to school though!

Yeah I know it sucked that Granny had to be moved to a nursing home, even though it is for her own good, even though she keeps saying she wants to go home, and I know you would have to reapply with the company, and I know if you are supposed to find a job you will, just like maybe Wal Mart will call and hire you and then we would work at the same place so it would save gas,and I have not lost my job even though some days are so bad I wish they would fire me,to get out of that place, and I know I have been told if I do not do my job I will be terminated, but they tell everyone that, but since I always do my job,I have nothing to worry about,I love you with all of my heart and soul.

I know that you do not like going to work with them some days and I can understand why. If you work hard enough maybe they will give you a promotion. I know that you have bad days almost all the time so I do hope that they promote you or something. If I went to work there we could car pull to save gas, and we'd both know what it felt like to work there. I love you.

I am hoping that I do get a promotion soon and I am working my butt off to show them that I will work, and yeah it would be nice to car pull, and you would see some of the crap that happens there, even though you already know it is a crappy place without having to work there,I love you with all of my heart and soul.
