Everyone is busy in debating whether Bharat Ratna should be given to Sachin or not. There is nothing wrong to give Bharat Ratna to Sachin. But there are many in Indian History who deserve Bharat Ratna but they are ignored. Dhyan Chand is one among them.
It is sad that India didn't give Bharat Ratna to this Hockey Wizard. And it is shocking that he died like a common man in a government hospital and he was treated in a general ward. This is disgraceful on the part of Indian government. Dhyan Chand was not just a Hockey Captain of National team but also an Army sepoy.
It is true that it is past but still today this kind of bad treatment is given to those who serve for country and neglect their own financial position.
Today's cricketers are safe because they earn a lot of money so they don't need to depend on government.
When everyone is focused on cricket how would other sports flourish? That is why India's pathetic show in Olympics goes on and on!
Even Vishwanathan Anand's achievements are not recognized properly. They write a small paragraph in a corner and that is it. He is World Champion of Chess! If a cricketer scores a century they provide a colorful picture and a big article!
Pankaj Advani win world titles and there is no buzz about it! India loses in the league stage of cricket world cup and it is made a big issue.
Dhyan Chand doesn't deserve to be Bharat Ratna? What about Vishy Anand? I don't think there will be another Chess Player like Vishy Anand in the next 100 years from India!
When all those achievers are ignored then why only Sachin is considered for Bharat Ratna?
For that matter, even Kapil deserves a Bharat Ratna award! He won the world cup for India as a captain that against the world Champions West Indians!

According to me it is the governing body who should be blamed for the image that been portrayed for other sports. I don't think that giving bharat ratna solves this issue, however if monetary help can be provided by the government , other games will improved, the players should be given assurance that no matter what , how they will perform they will be paid in better way, i think the players are under a lot of pressure to perform well at world level, they need to cut their expenses and most of the time their is not proper training facility for them, so their performance decreases. there should be a proper governing body who should listen to the player what the players require and we have to stop comparisons of cricket with other games, it is not cricket, it is the people who make the game popular , so if their are like 10 vishwanathan anand in chess, obviously chess will become popular..

If news papers, tv channels high light only cricket then what do you expect from children?
Do you expect kids to search for chess and try to emulate or see sachin, Dhoni everyday on tv and emulate them?
It is obvious, they know about cricket so they want to be cricketers or they want to watch cricketers. That is as simple as it can be.
If you show news about chess, hockey, soccer, etc then kids will try to play those games.
Don't expect kids themselves to find a sport and to become like Vishwanathan Anand or Leander Paes.
One needs exposure to other games too.
If you see only cricket filled with papers, channels, magazines then kids will follow only cricket.

tell me something if my kid wants to play chess , and i see all the day about cricketer and i think one day my kid will become a great cricketer . does he will become a good cricketer , the answer will be no , he even wont become a cricketer , great is far far away, well to some extent media is also responsible. But the thing if my son tell about chess , i will think like 1000 times before allowing him to for making chess as his future because the first thing that will come in my mind is security about his future. so I think if monetary assurance and right kind of governing body is there , i will not think about chess in the same way , as we think now.

And there was only ONE sunil Gavaskar and only ONE Kapil Dev. And After that there is only ONE Sachin.
So why 10 Vishwanathan Anand are needed for CHESS to be popular?
One Vishwanathan Anand is enough if proper exposure is there. After all he is World Champion of Chess currently.
It is not about Cricket Vs other sports. It is about how much importance other sports get.
I bet there are very few journalists who can write a decent article on Chess! When they themselves don't know about Chess what can they write about Chess? Writing about Cricket is far easy so they just do that. This is also one of the reasons.
