no response discussions

I was checking out the "no responses" feature, which now lists them oldest first. This makes more sense than the way they were listed before. That is, the only reason some discussions had no responses was because they had just been posted. This way, with the oldest first, you can be sure the discussion has no responses. Some were 4 years old.
I also saw some that the poster had zero posts next to their name. Now, how could they start a discussion and have zero posts? Am I missing something here?

It does seem weird that the no responses discussions are listed from the older ones like four years ago, and what's the point in answering them, since some of the posters only have zero or a few points which kind of indicates they aren't active anymore. As far as points in general. I've noticed that I don't gain a point by starting a discussion but ONLY when I reply back to the first replier.

So, do I get a point for answering you and none for not answering someone else?

Okie dokie...say you start a discussion. A person replies, the FIRST person you reply back to will gain you a point, but you don't gain points by responding to the other repliers---ah but you do earn some moola for replying to everyone in your discussion

Your number increases for 3 reasons:
1 - You start a discussion and it receives 2 responses (or 1 response + 1 comment)
2 - You respond for the first time on a discussion started by others
3 - You comment for the first time on a response on a discussion started by others.
Nothing else causes it to increase but EVERYTHING earns for you.

From when I first started here, I understood that our number only changes when we respond to discussions, not START discussions. That is probably still the case. The credit we get for the discussion is the responses we receive. It just doesn't get credited to our number count.

Not entirely. If you start a discussion and you get 2 or more responses to your discussion, then your number is increased. Also, the first comment you make to a discussion increases the number next to your name. So not only has this person not received any responses, but they also didn't respond to or comment on any other discussions.

I like the idea of them posting the older discussions with no responses first, but noticed they now have it the other way again. It gives people a chance to catch up on some of the older discussions and maybe some their friends here might have started as well. When it shows a 0 next to their name maybe they only started a couple of discussions and never responded back to anyone, so that is why there is a 0, and until someone responds back to one of their discussions will this number change.

That's interesting. I hadn't noticed that since I don't usually check the "no responses" section. Discussions in that tab are usually not interesting to me or they are about really obscure topics (I remember one of my discussions got no responses because I talked about something very few people had heard of before). Also, I made a comment to someone's response about the number, but basically, their number will remain 0 unless they get 2 or more responses on the discussion they started, or they actually post a comment or response.

I am not sure on this one. I would kind of agree with you though. I do think that it's a better idea to have the older one's posted first. I think this way just because that way some of the posts that wouldn't otherwise get the responses.

My guess would be they started one and only one discussion and it was a TOS and deleted. A hit and run type of poster to try and get people to some "hot paying site". Or maybe his cat posted something because he didn't have a cat filter program.
Yes, there are programs that prevent your cat from accidentally sending info over the net when they walk on the keyboard.

Harmony prefers to walk over the phone's (rather large) keypad... especially if I'm actually using it.

I am pretty sure that the post number doesn’t go up until someone responds and then you don’t start earning until you reply to the response so if a brand new user posts a discussion with zero responses their posts number won’t change from zero to one until someone responds. I like to go through some of the old discussions and have a go at replying.

hi barbara
I have at least 5-6 discussions with no response
maybe its not interesting.. or no one can relate to that topic I guess.
If we post a new discussion the number in the parenthesis is increasing but if we reply to our own discussion it didn't increase, and if we give comments to other discussions the number in the parenthesis is also increasing..
how about the number in the star??? how can we increase the number in the star??? any Idea?

Your star number goes up or down according to people hitting the plus or minus on your posts. I don't like the stars. If you post on controversial subjects, your star will go down. We are not supposed to hit - just because we disagree with the poster, but people do it anyways.

I also wondered why my post count didn't increase when I posted a new discussion, but the post increases when I respond to discussions. That gave me a theory that the post count increases only when we respond to a discussion, but this morning I checked my post count and it increased. I don't know what happened until I saw your post. I'm glad to red that there is an answer to this puzzling thing for me.
=)
