When I was a little girl I wanted to be an actress. I went throught drama class in highschool and even got a few bit parts in small local productions. I was told I was very good. I was never able to have that dream or at least not yet though I keep trying. Have you ever had a dream that you keep reaching for and can't grab or have you given up on one for some reason? Please tell me your story.

i had a dream once. i wanted to be a NASCAR driver. i practiced and honed my driving skills in street races and back forty tracks. i got quite good. one day my girlfriend told me she was pregnant. it was a lie but that didnt matter. it got me to thinking that i could not in good conscience go out every weekend and put my life on the line behind the wheel of a race car. who would i be hurting if i lost my life that way? friends? family? how many would grieve? now almost ten years later, i have a four month old son. he is my top priority and no way could i take the chance of leaving him behind to follow my dream. so i believe that some dreams are better left just that. a dream.

I thank you Travis for your story. I understand how you feel about your driving. Have you ever considered coaching some other young driver to realise his dream?
I think you could find some satisfaction from doing something like that.

I can see your point there.I also know that it is hard to let something you enjoy that much go. Maybe you have another dream that will fulfill yourself in that same manner. I know that my writing gives me almost the same joy. by the way congrats on your baby. You are a lucky one to have that kind of joy.

Willow, since dancing is a passion you've always had - and something you are good at, I hope you will get to follow through with your dream some day. Are there still local productions nearby that you could get involved with? If there is something stopping you from dancing at the moment, perhaps circumstances will change. I am a firm believer that, if something is meant to happen, it will.
Not sure what sort of story you want but, I think this fits. When I was 19, I worked in a fairly remote place. 2 American guys came into my office, asking how to get a permit to travel to an island Australia owns. They told me they wanted to go there because they were sailing around the world in a yacht and wanted to stop off at this island territory they had heard so much about. I think I let out a big "ahh, I've always wanted to do that" or something similar because one of the guys said "well, why don't you come with us?". It floored me. I asked if he was serious and he said yes. In fact, he said it would be a be great because I could help them with cooking and other stuff around the yacht. I had to make up my mind then and there, because once they left the office, I wouldn't meet them again. My office didn't even handle the permits they wanted. My mind jumped over several things. Did I go? No, because I had a job I loved and a boyfriend I didn't want to leave. I haven't thought about that day for years so, it hasn't been a constant dream but I would still like to travel. There are several places I want to visit overseas so, maybe I will still have the opportunity one day. Sorry this is so long. Sometimes I waffle on a bit. I hope you get to be an actress.

DO not feel sorry for rambleing. thats what I asked for your story. I have a great intrest in people in general and like to hear about the things they do. I do keep trying it just costs so much. I will not give up on it. I believe that if you want something bad enough that you can make it happen with determination. Thank you for your story. A friend of mine has an idea you may like. if you want to travel put all your pocket change in a jar marked with were you want to go and just keep collecting until you have enough. Just a thought.

I always wanted to be a writer and when I told my parents what I wanted to do with my life, they told me that there were thousands of starving writers in this world and that I should set my sights on something else. When the time came to go to college, I wanted a dual major of English and Journalism because I didn't want to give up that writing dream. My parents told me that they would only pay for a secretarial course or for an accounting degree. I chose the accounting route and spent a lifetime in a career that only brought me misery and unhappiness. I was good at it and achieved a lot of success but I just wasn't happy. I retired early and now spend my time writing and I've never been happier. It's never too late to chase your dreams. Accounting gave me the means to retire early and chase the dream but I wish that I had never listened to my parents.

You know I wish the same thing. My parents told me that too. Now after years of trying to scrape by I now realise that if I would have listen to my heart and not there logic I would be so much better off. I write free lance as well, mostly poetry but it gives me a release of some of those feelings. I am glad that you finally got what you wanted and hope that all gos well for you.

Ever since I started working, I dreamt of being employed by one of those multi-national companies that have perks you would only dream of. Anyway, a couple of years ago, I had the chance to do some contractual jobs with one of the biggest companies in the world. I wasn't a direct employee, but I had most of perks. I thought to myself, even if they don't hire me direct after my contract, I'd have the chance to go to other big companies based on my experience.
Unfortunately, 6 weeks into working, I've had to give it up. The timing was not right. As I've had to deal with some personal issues at home. Not to mention the more than 2 hours drive to work everyday.
If I look back at it, I could definitely say that it slipped through my fingers.

I thank you for your story. I think that in yout case you will get a second chance some day. To sacrifice for your family is very noble. I also think the the higher powers will some day smile on you for it.
