Why do America have such different response to Haiti and Chile earthquake?

The U.S.A. is so active in help the Haiti people but showed much less attention to Chile earthquake. Some people said it is out of political consideration. So do you think it is the right reason?

Sounds about right to me. Maybe the US feels that they owe Haiti something because they have denied them in the past. Actually, the average person that I speak to about Haiti can't understand why we are running to their aid and not doing more to help those right here at home.
