Band Troubles

Lately my drummer has been totally egomatic, and has been making wrong decisions for our band. I can't kick him out though because it's his house we practice at and his dad supports our band greatly. Things have gotten too much though, he added 4 new unnecessary people into our already great band. Now we have 4 guitarists, and I don't know who really needs that many guitar players. He's also been showing off to other people the songs we taught him to play on guitar, which are just fairly simple chords, and no he thinks he's Steve Vai or Satch or something. I'm thinking of quitting and making a new band, but I'm afraid that might be the wrong decision. What should I do?

As everyone said, talk it through. See what the other guys think otherwise, it might be a good idea to step back and seriously consider whther you actually want to work with tha guy.

Ph, and four guitarists on top of what you already have, will never work. Also, just because you are practicing at his house, don't let him think the band is entirely his.

I have been playing in bands, mine and others', for over 40yrs, and I have discovered that the best thing to do, when you run into musicians like this is to cut it off immediately no matter what the circumstances! It is hard to keep a band together when you have even one member like this, you are just wasting time trying to make it work! I always move on to the next musician, until I can find one that is decent, level-headed , and doesn't have an ego problem! As soon as I spot, or even sense a problem, I eliminate the musician right away! After a few years of experience, you'll see it is the best solution!

You really need to sit down and talk about this with the rest of the band. It may well be that others feel as you do, but you have to communicate. Don't make any hasty decisions yet.

hi, I think it would be good to communicate with your band members. I am also in a band and when I pour my troubles to another friend (who is also in a band but not mine), he advice me to talk to my band members because the best solution is to figure out what went wrong. And although I think 4 is a lot as well, but can some of them play or work on sometimes else like bassist, vocalist etc? I believe no one would be happy to be labelled as extra in a band thus if unless they are really not playing their part. I don't think you can ask them to leave especially you are practicing at your drummer house and he is the one who invite those people into the band...
